Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks XD.

Btw, for those of you living in Arizona, I'm debating driving to Arizona for my interview rather than booking a flight and was wondering when the peak traffic hours are that I should avoid? Judging by google maps, it'll take me about 6 hrs and I'll be on the 10E & 17N when into Arizona territory..

Is anyone interviewing on 11/18? If so, would anyone want to meet up the day before to practice? I would prefer going into the interview with a familiar face!

Sanyu, to be honest, I don't think anywhere in the United States besides mid center of NYC has traffic like LA. When I travelled in October and asking around for traffic times in case I'll miss my flights, people just laughed at me. 😡

You're not planning on arriving right before interview are you? Interview is super early in the morning, unless you are planning to leave California at like midnight. I booked my flight early and flew to Arizona and back to CA for about $59 one way, plus $90 of hotel. That is definitely better than driving depending how gas efficient your car is and how valuable your time is. Also have to factor in snacks, drinks, pitstop, random suvenior purchasing on the way (did I really just say that?).

I could be COMPLETELY wrong on this but I think Midwestern send interview invitations based on available slots and GPA/PCAT requirement. Then they review your whole application after interview to determine whether they want you or not. That's why interview invites come lightning fast and acceptances come snail slow. (Not really that slow compare to some other schools)

Good luck to everyone having upcoming interviews!

XDDD I suppose its the socal-ness in us to be asking about traffic. I just assume there's gotta be traffic at some point in time. This will be only my second interview and for my first interview, when I asked around there was some mention of traffic so I assumed it was universal.

Nah, I plan on driving over on Sunday and spending the night. Then gonna drive home after the interview. Since I only got my invite for interview yesterday, when I checked the flights, it was ~$286 roundtrip so that's a bit expensive. I can probably make it to Arizona in one tank of gas which is about $40 for my car so my trip would only cost about $80. And LOLLL @ souvenirs XD. I don't think I'll be buying anything as I'm a lil tight on money as is. I just need gum to keep me awake while driving 😀

I got my interview invite 1 day after receiving the email saying my application was completed.

It happened 3 hours after I received mine!! Talk about short notice. Hopefully that's a good sign. I'm going the 14th as well!! Yay I won't be lonely 🙂

Whoo~ Maybe it'll just be the both of us and we can get auto-accepted 😀

OMFG $40 on gas? holy crap! You drive a prius or what?
I spend almost $70 on gas per tank 🙁 that's why I never fill up LOL only $20 at a time.

XDDDD. I drive a Honda Civic 😀 But I'm still lazy and only fill up after I have less than quarter tank left.. Though yesterday I ran my car to almost empty before filling it up. That was a scary experience, cuz I tend to get super paranoid when I see my fuel light pop up. Butttt, it let me know it only costs about $40 to fill up.

apparently a gas guzzler compare to your car...🙁

I thought I was hitting good MPG too, I must self-reflect now.

Just got accepted into Midwestern!!!! 😀

Hey all. I interviewed this morning and was accepted this afternoon!!!!!!!! Hello Dr. Nelcovp. :highfive::clap::bow::banana::claps::soexcited:

Wow, that's an incredibly quick response by them. Congrats guys!

I guess I'm going to have to be part of that Flagstaff intramural sledding team. :ninja:

ACCEPTED! Interviewed on Nov 4th! Woot!

Hey I was accepted today!!! Does anyone know exactly when school starts? I know it says June, but is there an exact date? Thanks.

For those who were already accepted, do we need to submit our transcripts to midwestern yet again?

Hey Spunk3y,
I remember talking to someone on 11/4 interview about traffic. Did you get notified thorugh the portal? Just trying to verify that I am in as well.

If you have the accepted student check list information/ matriculation information under the portal then you are in. There is other correspondence that should follow as well. Traffic huh... Did my directions help you out?

I also interviewed this morning and it looks like I was accepted. Quite impressive that the school is so on top of things!

Yep.
The accepted student portal has all sorts of stuff you will need to do/prepare. The fun begins...

I think orientation is on the 30 and 31 of May. Then on to classes the next week. In the MWU academic calendar, we are PS15.

In my interview group, at least on of the socal interviewees (AMG CYN maybe?) drove over for the interview. Should be an easy drive and you are giving yourself lots of time. If you are coming via Yuma you may want to take a better look at the map. You don't have to use 17 at all, just pick up the 101 as soon as you hit it, and it will wrap around to 59th ave, where campus is, in about 20 minutes. If you are coming from the north though, earlier may be better, the 17 sometimes backs up on Sunday evenings as everyone heads down the hill back to Phoenix. Maybe try to hit that area by 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
Good luck !

Congrats!! Did you get a call or an email, or was it on the portal?

Just FYI, in my case, I never got a single call from them. I obsessively checked my portal, so I responded to each status change pretty close to immediatly. So I guess maybe they felt it wasn't necessary ?
Doesn't matter, I got my letter and they cashed the deposit, so I guess I am in !
😀

Oooh okay. I'm taking the 17N since my hotel is right by it and if I took the 101 I'd have to switch over to the 17N for a lil bit anyways to get to the hotel. Seeing as I'll be coming from the south on 17 I guess I don't have to worry about traffic. Thanks for the info! 🙂

The 101 still might be the best choice. Which hotel are you staying at and where... is it the Drury?

Uh, I'm actually staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix North Happy Valley on 1940 West Pinnacle Peak Road.

You guys drove so it's no problemo staying at a further hotel thats cheaper. I stayed at the comfort inn down the street with a shuttle I think thats where its called.

Whoa..SDN new layout...interesting...

i wish i could hear back right away from my school 🙁
Midwestern put my profile on hold last month without explanation (except for sending me the letter informing me)...:scared:

Not sure when your interview date is, but the later posts mentioned that 1-17 South (coming into Phoenix) can get backed-up on Sunday night. Driving to the interview the next day the 101 is not that bad on traffic because you should be going the opposite direction of traffic (unless you are taking the Loop 101 East...which will only get congested for like a mile). To be safe Google map your hotel to the school and then give yourself AT LEAST 10 extra minutes for traffic, depending on how far the hotel is. Overall, Phoenix has a grid system for streets, so if you miss your exit or turn, just go a mile and turn around. 🙂 Good luck!

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?
yeah sure

GPA : 3.64 from CC, no BS yet
PCAT : hold when no PCAT available. Sep PCAT is 89
Toelf score : 81 (i had no idea that i have to take this until MCSHP Worcester sent me letter telling I need this..totally screw it esp speaking part because I was jammed in a room of 20ish students mostly fobs T_T They speak so loud and I got distracted easily. I'm a fob myself too but ...consider older fob ahah)
PTCB , work at retail since 2.2011 (ave 26hrs/week), volunteer at hospital 9.2008 - 4.2010

I applied to both Glendale and Chicago but only Glendale sent me "hold for potential future interview letter" letter mail last month

My interview is Monday morning, but yeah, I plan on giving myself lots of time to get there since I'm always paranoid about being late. Thanks for the tips. ^_^

Wow, I have no idea why they put you on hold. Your stats are great! Perhaps it was a mistake on their part? Sorry about the TOELF crap you went through. From one older fob to another, that's ridiculous. I may have only gotten away with it because I just obtained my US citizenship. 😍

On a side note, is your profile pic from the new MV for Cry Cry? *__*

That's basically next door to the Drury. I live 5 minutes from there. If you are coming from I-10...I would take the 101 around to the I-17 and then head north on the 17 to Pinnacle Peak. Look at a map and you will see. This way you avoid the traffic heading into downtownon the 10, and avoid traffic leaving downtown on the 17. Where the 10 and 17 merge can sometimes be a nightmare.

I'm trying to figure out who PCCweakO is. I knew they were scheduled to interview on 11/11 so I'll assume they were in attendance, yet I have no idea who it was.

Care to step forward?

Good luck on your interview and I hope you enjoy the campus and the program. I think you are driving by now.

Hey all,
I know Midwestern in Chicago provides a new laptop for its incoming pharm students, does Glendale do the same as well?

Technically provide means you pay for it in your tuition anyways.
Might as well spend that money to buy something you like, instead of a crappy model you will not enjoy using.
