Just got the call yesterday from Dr. Polk and couldn't be more excited. The waitlist must be starting to move!! Good luck to everyone! I hope to see all of you in the fall!

When did you have interview?
 
No calls today for me. Why do you ask? Does today hold some significance? I know if I do end up getting a call, I am going to do a standing flip with a quarter twist!
 
just wondering if there have been more movement on the wait list because i am on it and i hope i get a call soon..i am praying..for the people who just got a phone call after being on the wait list, how many days did they give you to decide whether you want to accept or decline their offer?

yo! ok so 1 more interview date was added for april 7th. that being said, if you have already had your interview and have not been accepted, you are either waitlisted or rejected at this point. there are currently 107 deposits. now don't freak out! haha i talked to admissions about how many deposits there are and they said they expect a lot of movement as they begin the status audit in a month or so. a status audit is when they verify whether or not the people with deposits have all the requirements done. soooooo many people haven't taken anatomy, or biochem, or microbio, and think that because they got accepted they don't need to take those classes .... wrong! admissions told me that they get calls all the time saying "do i really have to take anatomy?" yes. so everyone hang in there and wait for your call. for many of you IT WILL HAPPEN!

Okay, so if we didn't hear from them yet, we're just rejected then? Because you would get a call if you were waitlisted, correct?

Nope, typically a call into the admissions office is what informs you that you are waitlisted.
 
Oracle, why are they doing another group of interviews with 107 deposits and about infinity people on the waitlist? They can't really be expecting that much movement right?

not rejected... maybe.... if it's been more than 3 weeks since your interview i'd call.

i'm not sure. admissions said no more interviews, dr. simonsen said too bad i want more, ...he wins. maybe he read a really good personal statement and wanted another day. there are not really that many waitlisters either, less than 190 (there has been calls off of it so i'm adjusting down from 200), and some will get in other schools so that # may even be lower than you think. last year they estimated 30% of class came off the waitlist, i see no reason why this year would be different.

what happens if you don't finish all the pre reqs before the spring semester ends? can you take them in the summer?

This doesnt make sense Oracle.
U say they audit those who have made a deposit . now lets say they find some and they tell them u r short. those students will go and pick up some summer classes and get themselves cleared before orientation.

Also, lets say someone is on the waitlist who is planning to take microbio in summer before classes start.. gets a call in May and is told he/she is accepted, only if they are done with their pre-req before orientations.

Either way, this audit has nothing to do with movements on the list. Maybe and maybe 1 or 2 . the ones who have made the deposit at MWU, but then they have acceptance elsewhere, so when MWU tell them to get the last pre-req,they give up on MWU and go to their other choice.

Either way,whether accepted or waitlisted, since you have a chance to clear the requirement before orientation, most student will do that and therefore they will still be on the list. not much of a movement there.

In my situation, Im done with all those pre-reqs but unfortunately I had to take Pathology instead of microbio and so I left micorbio for summer. that class starts in May and ends on July 18.
so what will happen to me when they call in MAY for example!?

remember guys and girls....100 deposits does NOT mean 100 matriculating students. there will be shifting all summer as some kids get into state schools or their top choice school or whatever so there WILL BE MOVEMENT! be patient, and hang in there!

while you guys are waiting, dont forget to reapply in june and in the meantime maybe take a summer science class to up your gpa or study for the DAT and take it august 1st so you can call and update MWU w/ your new score right before they start inviting the 1st round interviews. if you get in this cycle..no harm no foul....if you don't and are not planning ahead you could find yourself behind the power curve for next cycle and put yourself at a disadvantage.

Oracle is the only nice dental student west of the Mississippi my friend. The rest of us eat small children for breakfast and steal candy from babies.

it happens more than you think. people don't realize that they can't go to school w/o the pre-reqs and can't get into a summer micro or summer anatomy. depending where you live and where you go to school, these classes are not offered as summer courses everywhere.
i'm not saying that this is the bulk of movement, sorry if i misled anyone, you're right, the bulk of the movement will come from people who got into their state school or their other top choice.
after they review your file they will email you and say hey you need to take this class so provide us proof of enrollment before such and such date in order to keep your seat in the class.
if you do...no harm no foul.

Is it definitely true that Midwestern accepts pre-req courses taken in summer before matriculation? Because most dental schools require all pre-req courses done by the end of Spring. Can you please confirm? I tried to call Admission but nobody seems to know exactly.

it is definatley true. absolutley. 100%. if you talk to bea in admissions she should tell you or talk to jim the director of admissions.
 
it's true...i called them a couple weeks ago and they said u can take it over the summer. the thing is they didn't say if they're lenient with the transcripts coming close to the deadline. most summer school courses end early august and mwu online says they want the transcripts 2 weeks before school starts...i think they'll be lenient tho as long as u pass and tell them.

hey guys! i know you're getting excited so i wanted to keep you in the loop. i don't know if you were aware but 1 thing thats really cool here is that we all share our study guides that we make or find. so this quarter we set up a school gmail so we can archive all of our work to save for you to benefit from, it will really come in handy (and save hours of work) when all the nmemonics and practice tests are done and ready for ya.
 
This is why I chose MWU. I really cant wait to be in a school that has this kind of attitude.
 
I talked with a faculty today, and they said that they have 105 deposits now.

However, they mentioned that they accepted too many guys compared to girls, around a 60:40 ratio of Male to Female.

So its possible that if your a girl and on the waitlist, you might have a better shot getting off the waitlist.

This has to be one of the longer discution thread on SDN. Keep up the good work!! Maybe we can extand this thread 10 years down the line.

Not really, most dental schools, if you see their Male to Female ratio, its around the same every year, meaning they must be keeping tabs to some degree. That doesn't mean they will all accept girls from now on off the waitlist.

Class of 2012 currently is almost 50:50 males to females.

I wasn't trying to say that from now on everyone getting off the waitlist will be a girl. My assumption is that there will be more girls getting off the waitlist than guys as a whole to try to even out the class, since theres way more guys than girls in the class of 2013 currently.
 
When I interviewed, my interviewer told me that they try to get a 50/50 mix of males to females. However, he also said that with the shortage of dentists that is predicted in the near future, Midwestern may have to modify their admission practices somewhat and admit more males. He said that females tend not to stay in the field as long for various reasons that he did not discuss. I would guess that some quit to raise a family, or work only part-time.

I just got into Temple last week and was thrilled and set to go there an sent my deposit right away..... but MWU...but temple... ugh!

There's a student here right now who had the exact same struggle. funny. He had his deposit with Temple and everything.
 
Has anyone heard of any movement in the alternate list yet?
 
hey Oracle, have someone replaced Jinny yet? I have been sending email and still haven't receive any response from MWU for almost a month now
 
Hey jaypea65, I was on the waitlist (interviewed in Feb.) and accepted last week! The list is moving so hopefully you guys hear some good news soon!🙂 Good Luck! :xf:

i don't but if you call they will give it to you for sure. i'd call instead of email from time to time anyways just to get a little attention anyways. so call and ask to speak w/ jim walters and you can ask him for his email for future questions/ concerns.
 
yea I just gave them a quick call and so far there is 109 out of 110 deposits. This is not looking good for me...has anyone gotten accepted that has been on the wait list pre-December 1st? 🙁
 
Is a second deposit required at some point? Admissions told me that I would not hear anything until probably April. Why April?

That spot will stay open since I have not and will not submit my deposit there. I hope one of you SDNers gets it! I sent the letter of withdrawal or whatever this morning.
