I have visited several veterinary schools and had two interviews, Mississippi being one of them. Last fall was the first time I visited MSU-CVM and I was so impressed with the facilities, students, faculty and administration. It is a friendly and welcoming school with a great teaching hospital and broad, flexible curriculum. It was not a vet school that I had initially considered, mainly due to logistics (location and job opportunities for spouse), but it immediately became a top choice.
Why? Because the students are exceptional: they are not only bright, like all vet students and applicants, but they seem to have a pride in their school that is genuine and infectious. They seem to truly want to be only at Mississippi and appear to be enjoying themselves while getting through the demanding vet curriculum. And the selection process is subjective from the beginning they consider EVERYTHING about each individual candidate. There was a wide range of candidates from all walks of life. The interview questions (at least mine) were completely tailored to my application, and I doubt anyone was asked the same things I was asked. The questions were also layered it felt as if they had spent hours looking at my application and wanted a thorough understanding of who I am and how I envision myself as a vet student and professional.
Even if I am not selected for this years class, I will have no doubt that my application was given thorough consideration and that the applicants who are invited as the class of 2010 will be a pretty impressive and dynamic group.
