I got accepted into the class of 2028 and start June 24! Let me know if y’all have any questions!! I received an invitation for an interview at the end of December and I scheduled my interview for the end of January. Interviews were held during the week of January 29- February 2, 2024 I believe. There’s an interview social the day before your interview so that you can talk to current students/ faculty and learn more about the program.

First-time applicant to MSU (OOS), but second time applying to vet school. 🙂
Most of the veterinarians I have worked with have been from Mississippi State's vet school, and it is one of my top choices!

Does anyone have any advice about the question in VMCAS that asks, "Please provide the course number, name, and term for any course(s) in-progress or pending for future terms. (Example: BIO345, Genetics, Fall 2024) If not applicable to you, put N/A." Do you think this only applies to prerequisite courses, or any courses we may be taking? I wasn't sure if I should list unrelated courses that I'm taking during the application year.

When I was filling out VMCAS during my academic semester I included all the classes I was taking during that term! I wanted to show them I was a full time student and taking some really cool classes that weren’t a part of the pre-requisites! Even something as small as putting in all your course work can give the reviewers an indication of you are as a person. I think my fifth year all I really needed was anatomy & phys (for tOSU CVM) and so my other classes were super cool ones (and also GPA boosters) that still related to my major like GIS, cartography, archaeology (not major related but super fun!), etc. hope this helped 🙂

Thank you so much! This is a perspective I didn't consider and makes a lot of sense. If I'm suffering through calculus, I might as well let them know 😊.

Does anyone know if the 3.0 cut off is the same as Auburn where they will not look at your application at all. Or do they look at apps under 3.0 and make decisions based on more than the GPA. My overall is under a 3.0 but sciences, last 45 and graduate are all over a 3.0

It says the minimum overall GPA is required, so I would assume if you don’t meet the requirement they won’t look at it unfortunately

Does anyone know how to pay the supplemental fee? I looked at the email and it says my pin is expired and wont let me create an account

Send them an email and they will help you. Same thing happened to me and they had entered my DOB wrong.

I sent them an email today and they calculate GPA based on your prerequisites not overall cGPA. So I might have a chance now 🙂

Does anyone know whether interviews are virtual or in-person? Maybe both?

On the vmcas application did anyone click "yes" to being interested in the Bardsley Scholarship? or any current students that are recipients of it? I'm applying as an out of state student and will love to know more about it from a students perspective. Good luck to everyone!! wishing the best of luck!

My status in portal is "Pending Further Information - Academic Review" But I haven't heard from them something is missing. Anyone else's portal say same thing?

My portal just has a message saying my application has been verified by VMCAS and is under academic review.

Mine says:
Application Review The Admissions Committee is reviewing your application.

I received an email a few weeks ago stating that my application has been forwarded to the Admissions committee for further evaluation.

I received an email. They want verification for the 2 "MP" classes I received during my COVID semester.

On 10/18 my portal stopped showing “academic review” and I got an email later that same day saying that my application had moved to “admissions review.” For reference, I submitted VMCAS 9/14 and was moved to academic review 9/23.

Thats strange, I submitted in late august and i’m still in academic review. I guess apps aren’t reviewed in the order received.

They must not be. I’m not really sure what academic vs admissions review means, but the email I got about being in admissions review does also say that they expect to have interview invites sent out by late December/early January and that invitees will get assigned an interview date between February 10th and 14th. I’m an OOS applicant, but the email doesn’t specify any differences in timeline for OOS vs IS, so I assume it’s the same for everyone. I’ll still be anxiously checking the portal daily, but at least it doesn’t seem like we have anything to worry about if we’re not hearing much yet.

If it helps at all - I applied to Mississippi State last cycle and the portal wasn't a super accurate piece of information. There were a few times that it would update for some people and not others and a whole situation where they released some interview invitations via the portal early and immediately took them down again. I would focus on anything you receive via email over the portal updates. Best of luck c/o 2029 applicants!!

Did anyone else get an email today saying "Your application has been forwarded to our Admissions Committee for further evaluation. Updates made to your experiences in VMCAS after this date will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee." Does this mean I passed the academic review?

Yes!

Yes I got the same email and I think that’s what it means!

What are the typical Academic Review stats? What are the typical pre-req and overall GPAs that get someone past this phase? Thank you!

You have to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall I believe. It’s stated on their website!

Hmm.. Maybe they have an unannounced cutoff gpa or they’re still in the process of reviewing applications. I have over a 3.0 but haven’t passed academic review yet so i’m stressing

To everyone who has been moved to admissions review: when did you submit your application and did you have grade replacements? I submitted 8/29 and have 4 grade replacements, not sure if that is a factor here.

Submitted 8/18. No grade replacements.

Submitted 9/14, had 6 grade replacements (3 of the 6 are for vet pre-reqs)

Man, that doesn’t sound too good for me :/ hopefully I pass through to the next round and they just aren’t reviewing them in order or something

Hey guys, I just went to check my portal in case it updated and it did! I didn’t receive an email from them when it was updated though. Is this the same update as “admissions review”, or is that something different?

is anyone else in academic review still? I know i make the gpa cutoff and should be good in pre-reqs (oos), but i’m getting worried lol

my portal still says academic review and i haven’t received any updates via email.

Mine also still says under academic review. I also meet the minimum GPA requirement

Submitted 9/11 (all my classes were already verified from applying to LMU in July) and 8-10 grade replacements.

Submitted 9/4 i think? No grade replacements, I also already have my B.S. so no gen ed pre-reqs

I also was moved to admissions review this morning. I submitted on 9/13, verified on 9/16. I have 2 grade replacements and transcripts from 4 different schools. My heart about jumped out of my chest when I got the email 😂
