Mizzou c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Best of luck to you Kansas Girl!!!!

Where are all the IS people ?!? Have y'all heard anything yet??

Me and my two roomies sent in our deposit/ applications on a place to live last week, wahoo!

The ISers will hear around the first week of April, coming up soon!

Hey does anyone know when they start sending out offers to OOS waitlisters?

I think I'm the only one! Kathy said they were expecting to mail our letters next Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

I'm kind of dreading. My dog has been sick and I just got back from an ultrasound appointment with a radiologist. Unless I have a change of heart and choose to go for major exploratory surgery by morning, he's on hospice. He's having a good day, but probably not going to make much past the weekend if that. I don't think I can handle a rejection and loosing him back to back. His 10th birthday is in two weeks. This is completely unexpected and I'm really heartbroken at the moment. Sorry to be totally off topic

So sorry about your pup, I'll be keeping him in my thoughts. It can be very rough...

I'm very sorry Dvmdreamer. Ill keep you both in my prayers, hang in there!

Thank you very much, both of you.

I'm having a hard time knowing what to do. The immediately fatal problem is fixable (by removing a kidney), but the radiologist saw hints of numberous other problems (small tumors on the liver and spleen) and had suspisions that something major systemically is brewing that is just not obvious on diagnostics yet. The decision I have to make is to take him into surgery today knowing that there is a good chance he will never get off the table, or to keep him comfortable and let him die on his own time at home (my vet will come here to euthanize him when its time, don't worry, I am not going to let him suffer until the end). My sisters are coming home Thursday night for the holiday. I would be very upset if I cheat him those final days and them getting to say goodbye by trying heroics. But I can't help wondering what if those other potential problems aren't that big of a deal and he could be ok for another year with the kidney gone. Still, there is not an option for checking the not-obviously-diseased kidney's function before removing the other, so we could be killing him just by doing that.

Good luck waitlisters! Just declined my acceptance.

Eeek very exciting!!

I can't wait to see all the new acceptances!!!

Not to scare everyone, but one of my friends (that lives in CoMo) got their acceptance letter today. So, depending on how close you are to Mizzou, letters should be arriving fairly shortly. 🙂

Exciting news!! We should be seeing who else is going to be in our class!

Well...I didn't get accepted. No big surprise considering my stats but at least I applied elsewhere too. Good luck to everyone. Don't get discouraged. Never give up on your dreams 🙂

Sorry vegirl 🙁 I'm a second time applicant, so I am familiar with the disappointment of the little white envelope. Will you be accepting a seat somewhere else then?

Nothing in my mail today, I guess I'll be hearing Monday.

On the positive, my pup is almost acting 100% himself, knock on wood! I was able to cut back his Tramadol today, which has made him even perkier! :xf:

Im waiting to hear back from the other school I applied to. If I get accepted there then I will be going there. If that doesn't work I plan on staying in Columbia and getting a business degree then apply again.

I wish you the best of luck, don't give up hope!! I'm sure you can make it 🙂

Alternate for me 🙁

It wasn't entirely unexpected, but I'm still really disappointed. This year was my best shot. I still have an alternate spot at ISU, but not holding onto much hope there.

Bummmmer 🙁

After much deliberation, I am going to make the difficult decision and decline my offer to Mizzou. I absolutely loved the area and the people were super nice, but I feel that the 2+2 program would not be the best decision for my learning style. I hope this decision makes someone else's dream come true. Thanks so much for all of your guys' help and support through this decision process! Good luck to you all in your studies! We're gonna be vets! 😀

Aww, 🙁 . But congrats on making your decision!! Best of luck to you Boiler!! 😍

Does anyone know the chances of an instate alternate (wait list) student has for getting into Mizzou?😕
Does the wait list even go by in-state or out of state?

I just got my wait list letter in the mail today and I know I will find out more on the 15th of April but its killing me to still not know.

How many are normally on the waiting list anyway?

Pleas help! I am getting killed over here!🙁

I think it varies year by year, last year the list moved quite a bit but the year before not so much, so I think it really depends :/ good luck!! :luck:

This year, I know they interviewed twice as many OOSers because they went so far down the waitlist in years past. I'd assume that means they'll adjust how many they accept and then how far down the waitlist they'll go, but that's just my guess.

ETA: Annnd I just realized you were asking about instate. I have no clue about that, sorry. 😳 But I do believe they have separate lists, because they try to keep the class half IS and half OOS.

I asked about Fin. Aid in another thread, but I figured I'd post the answer I got here 😉

We won't get Fin. Aid awards until June/July .. That's how it was done last year so that's how it would likely be done this year. Just wanted to let y'all know 😀

Any SDNers going to the Open House April 20th ?? I know myself and RAINHEART will be there.

And I hope everyone is having good luck searching for housing !!

My mom and I are flying out on that Friday and staying through Sunday morning! Can't wait for the open house and to meet some classmates and SNDers!

So I remember at the interviews hearing about getting free food and heartworm/flea products. Does anyone know any details on this stuff?

We do get free food and free heartworm/flea products.
Through Purina, you get a bag (or a certain number of cans, I'm not sure- my dog gets dry food) of free food per month. Through Hills and SCAVMA we get up to some ridiculous number (like 120#) of food for a 50% discount per month.
We also get free Advantage - you have to go to the lecture, and sign up for it, but it's free. You'll get emails about it once school starts. But we didn't get ours this year until some time in October, I think, so you might want to plan ahead about bringing enough to get you through a few months if you think you might run out. Also, if you prefer Heartguard/Frontline, you can get those for free if you are an active volunteer/member of PALS (a service organization you'll hear about or can see at the activities fair).

Anyone hear anything so far On the wait list? I've got my fingerscrossed for all of you!! :xf: :xf:

Thank you! Nothing here, but the letter said that we were not ranked and in the event of an opening the pool would be reevaluated by the committee. Sounds like a slow process... (at least, so I'm telling myself- I have had two minor heart attack at phone calls so far )

I'm in!!!! I can't believe I'm going to my dream school!!!!!

Kathy called me... and then called me 15 minutes later because she forgot if she called me.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Looks like you have some tough choices to make!! We'd love to have you in our class!

Congrats XiLove!!!

And the wait list is definitely moving- today, one of our classmates got to deliver good news to a family member who applied and got wait listed today. 🙂

Do you know if that was in state? just curious if that list is moving as well.

I felt the same way!! Congratulations!! BTW, what day did you interview? I was Sunday! I was talking to someone's parents who were from South Dakota, I wonder if they were yours...

I feel like we've had this conversation before! I interviewed on Sunday, so I'm pretty sure it was my parents. (Haha). What are you doing for housing? This is stressin' me out now. Ha

Do you know when ppl from the IN-state will find out if they got in? I was told they send you an acceptance packet if its a yes. and is it true that they wont send you anything if its a no? Does Cathy call people?

Bitting my nails!

Oh yeah, I think we did have this convo before! KPowell and I have a place, and we might actually need a third roomie since ours might be going to a school that she got off the waitlist. If that happens, feel free to inquire! She has to tell them by tomorrow, so we will know soon.
