When I visited, I felt it was actually quite diverse. If you get a chance, sit in on a class and you'll see that.

I was also wondering about a second look weekend.

I just had two random questions about morehouse:

1) Do they have a second look weekend?

2) I read that they are 67% african american. Is that true? I don't remember seeing any students or fellow interviewers who weren't black while I was there.

3) For people have have already been accepted, did you get financial aid information with your acceptance or does that come later?

I'm so nervous. My letter is either in the mail or still sitting in the admissions office. Either way the decision is made, I just want to know!

I didn't want this thread to die. As I mentioned I got wait listed a couple weeks back. Who else heard anything? Also, who knows someone to get in off the wait list? I'm afraid that since this school overbooks I might not have a chance. Anyone want to share their personal experience?

Most if not all med schools overaccept. It's the only way they can be sure they fill their classes as many applicants have multiple acceptances.

I also heard from a friend who recently attended Morehouse, that prehold interview status at this school is related primarly to your MCAT score. So if I were an applicant that was in this category and despite applying early/mid season hadn't received an MD acceptance anywhere else, I'd start focusing NOW on the August MCAT and get my plan B in order just in case.

I'm not sure that all school's overbook. They may offer a few more acceptances than they have slots but it seems there are two basic models. Some schools (MCG, Mercer, unsure about Emory) pretty much only offer as many acceptances as they have slots. Then they form a waitlist that they expect to move through. I know Mercer went almost completely through their wait list last year. MCG pulls about 70 off their wait list. Morehouse, on the other hand usually offers about twice the acceptances as they have seats in their class. It would seem, then, that they pull less from their wait list. I know Case Western a couple years back overbooked so much that they had more than they could take in their first year class. They had to defer a few students till the next year but they offered them a big financial break. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm posting mostly to bump this thread, but I'm also interested in hearing everyone's news. I was waitlisted about three or four weeks ago. If anybody knows ANYTHING (even if its from a friend of a friend) about how Morehouse's waitlist moves, please let me know. Thanks!

The interviews are done, and all of the decisions have been mailed out as of this Tuesday (so they say).

Philadelphia, expect a big package or small letter. Don't know what reject gets if that even gets sent out. Of the 4 people that interviewed from my class 1 got accepted outright three got waitlisted. They have very few seats for out of state so don't expect much but DO expect something. Still I really liked Morehouse. Still have been accepted other places and waiting for more. I hope Morehouse increases it's class size in the future. I think for a young school it is light years ahead of Howard and I can't comment on Meharry as they have lost my application.

I had that problem awhile ago. I called the financial aid office and asked them to transfer me. They put me straight through to Dr. Roaf. I'm not sure what's up with the admissions office phone.

With a class size of only 50 or so...I don't feel like the chances of gettting of the waitlist are very good... 🙁

Meharry deserves a little bashing...I had a convo with the director of admissions who implied that my stats were stellar and on that basis...Meharry would not be offering me an interview...THAT seems kinda backwards to me...It seems as if you should make all efforts to get quality students at your institution

So if you are on the wait list, and your not i the "top 10" sorry. Cause there is rarely movement on that thing.

As far as being 67% black. That is correct. But black is a beign term.
Black = African?
Black = African-American
Black = Mixed
I bet 80% of the class has at least one or two parents from another country if they are not themselves from another country. Or they are mixed, or they don't have any african blood at all.
So paper statistics are significantly different from reality.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. According to everything I've seen on Morehouse, they overbook, so if they want 50 in next year's class, they accept 100.
