Many of the cardiologists are also damn smart.

I think that pretty much sums up pathology.

neuro and to certain extent psychiatry 🙂

The most intellectual physicians I've met are in neurology, pathology, nephrology, and cardiology. But pretty much all the physicians I've met are damn smart.
You haven't met enough. Keep working 😉
Play with the kids who don't play with knives, and you'll find 'em just fine.
Nephrology and ID around my neck of the woods.

The irony is delicious.
I wonder what he or she is doing now!

I would also say this. They're so smart but so underpaid
I'm in cardiology but work in a city Hospital and the VA, so I don't make the big bucks, but I love it!

When I'm trolling the boards late at night I tend to miss these things 🙂.
Hahahahah
Bringing the insanity.
I'm guessing medical genetics but that's purely based on a hunch.

I agree with Cards, Nephro, and ID. Most IM subs. Don't forget Rheum too.
Neuro can be. But, I know more than a hand full that are not. Rads impress me with their smarts for the most part as well.

Obivously Derm, why else would all the top ranked medical geniuses do that residency?

life style is the word.
I would say Rheum, and then Derm IMO.
I love rhuem! Weirdest **** ever.
And the derms, while they have the nicest life ever, some of that skin stuff is really stymying. Is that a word? Whatevs. I realized I caused there to be two threads up about the most "intellectual" specialty. Haha. I couldn't resist that someone said, "All the docs I've work with are really smart." Haha, yes, all docs are "smart." But really? hahahahaha

Neurology... Many of these docs always wear bow tie.😉

Yeah, but wherever he is, I bet he still felt that sick burn.

Pretty sure neuro has that stigma.
What I'm getting out of this thread: What's the most intellectual field? --> Anything other than Ortho.
This post sounds like it came from a 14 yr old girl. LolI love rhuem! Weirdest **** ever.

so true, i'm having a hard time imagining a resident talking like that
There's an actual resident around here that posts like that. I won't say names 😉so true, i'm having a hard time imagining a resident talking like that
Osteopathic Manual Manipulation of course.
Endo and nephro both probably up there. Totally disagree with ID -- at least where I've worked they are very knee jerk in terms of demanding line holidays etc despite evidence to the contrary --a lot of times they seem to be on auto-pilot and unable to see the bigger picture. Show me a sick patient with difficult access issues and I'll show you an ID doc wanting to pull his only lines out.

It's more like, "me see bone. Me fix bone. You lift bro?" 🙂

You caught me. I'm a 14 year old girl, I'm the female Doogie Houser of SDN.
Very astute observation.

Right, jump in with your well chosen words.
Whatevs, you're a med student, good luck sounding so smart as an intern. I've written some great posts on the topic you should check out because you're going to need the help. Everybody does.

I met a couple of interns this year who had the whole valley girl thing going on. Turns out they are both integrated plastic surgery interns.
I don't really care how someone talks as long as they're competent at what they do. For what it's worth, I think that lots (not all) of patients really like docs who are kind of bubbly and casual in their natural voice.
It doesn't make that persona any less hilarious or mockable as a caricature.
