Yeah, the path vs psych thing isn't entirely clear to me either, to tell you the truth. But my interest in psychiatry doesn't really cover all aspects of it - if I did go into it, I would probably go for a subspecialty like forensics or geriatrics. It could be that it's just uncertainty regarding "clinical medicine vs non-clinical medicine" and that psych is my clinical specialty by default (the only one I could see myself going into).

Look at me... I'm rambling again... (reference, anyone? 🙂 )

Hi everyone, I'm a 2006er also. Nice to meet ya'll! I have always wondered about people who thought psych vs. path. I am doing my third year psych right now, and it is so subjective! We have like 5 attendings who all say something different. "Well, clearly this patient is suffering from this personality disorder or PTSD or whatever..." It just confuses me. What is it that you like about one or the other, and what similarities are there that attract you to them both? Just asking because I have a hard time seeing how you could be split between those two, of all things.

well, i'll be moving in june most likely. my lease up in here ends in may so i'm hoping that i can start a lease in boston at the beginning of june. moving's gonna be a real bitch...the good thing is boston is actually closer to my parents' place than ann arbor is so the drive shouldn't be too bad.

as for posting during residency, i most likely won't be posting as much since i'll be pretty busy and getting worked. this year is kind of a f*ckaround year for me with little actual responsibility...kinda like the last several months of grad school which was pretty sweet! that's why i gots time for stuff like this

Ni hao. I've been lurking for a couple of months. I must say you guys crack me up with all the random humor that goes on around here. I must look like quite the dork to all the other "serious" medical students around me in the library.

I'm throwing myself into pathology. It was a difficult decision (kind of) because I really enjoyed pediatrics and internal medicine for the most part. Pediatrics is rapidly fading away from consideration, and IM has been dead to me for a couple of weeks. I'm going to miss the patient contact, but I'd probably get tired of dealing with the same type of patients.

The next few months should be interesting as I get to wrap up my third year and move onward to my fourth and finally some time back in the path lab. 🙂

Welcome aboard emu...............I must say the conversation such as the one you mentioned above is one of the reasons (probably the least important... ) why i am going into path....there isnt much sense trying to drill sense into people......as a cynic, i have pretty much no hope for humanity as a whole. We are destined to be at each other s throats in one form or another, stubborn to our own detriment, and tragic,overall.........

Man, I don't know how you managed this. I am in my last month of grad school and have never been working so hard in my life (including my internal medicine rotation!) I love the work but am just starting to get tired. At least my thesis is due on Monday so that will have to end soon. 🙂

Yeah...the timing just happened to work out nicely in a way. I mean the thesis was basically a cut and paste job (here, we don't have to rewrite chapters if we use publications as individual chapters) and I defended in early April. But because we didn't start clinical rotations until July so I basically had April-June to screw around. The disadvantage of this system is that I had to wait a whole year to apply to residency. If our program was set up like yours I could be a PGY-1 right now.

That's true actually, an attending at my med school had the two headed scope in her office with the heads side to side instead of face to face because a couple of the residents had really bad halitosis. And she used to tell me she used to offer them gum but they always declined, so she had to switch her scope around to side by side.

I am here yaah....i am here......Im in the lurk mode. Now that the thread seems to have taken a fancy for "Aliens"......It was appropriate that i practise my lurkiness.....If there is such a word!
No really, im driving myself nuts trying to figure out something and now that the semester is coming to a close, Im getting ass whipped by work.
BUT ill persist, i have target of reaching 500 Posts and i ll strive towards the same!

One of my irrational fears of my childhood was one those would GET INTO my ass.........I still have that fear but it takes like a second to get over it. Im mortally scared of snakes though....I still think one of them snakes is going to swim into the potty and bite my ass....I cant even see TV shows of them. Im plain phobic of them.

My theory on love goes something like this....
