MPH 2019: Applied, Waitlisted, Accepted!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am! I'll be coming from the Los Angeles area, what about you?

Oh yay! I applied for the START RA position, so if they extend an interview I will attend. I would be coming from SoCal, too, but would fly out of John Wayne in OC. I am waiting to buy airline tickets and make hotel reservations until further notice. Kayak says flight prices are supposed to drop in a week, so hopefully I will know by then!

Are you going both days?

Has anyone heard anything back from the UW Health Services MPH program yet?

And for those who received the "recalled" Harvard acceptance letters, did anyone receive this for the Health and Social Behavior 65-credit MPH yet?

Just trying to figure out if I should still be holding out hope for these last few programs or not.

Did anyone who applied to Colorado SPH, also apply for internal scholarships, such as the Judith Albino diversity scholarship?

I am also feeling anxious, still waiting for UCLA, UCI, and SDSU (all for Epidemiology)
Is anyone waiting for SOMETHING?! I am still waiting for a reply back from any school I applied for. My anxiety is killing me....
I'm still waiting on UCLA, SDSU, UIC, and OSHU.... I applied to OSHU late, so I'm not worried about that one, but I'm sitting on three months since my application was submitted for the other three....

I was also rejected from UMN, but started a new app for my second choice, so I guess that's still in the mix too.

I did! I'm accepted to ColoradoSPH, but I haven't heard any news on the Albino Scholarship or any other aid.

Just got an offer to apply for a scholarship at Pitt for 50% off both years!
wait, what, really? Did you personally request for it? I'm confused because Pitt said they have no scholarships for masters level students. Which concentration did you apply to?

Great to hear and good luck!! Super random, but were you generated a UC-Denver email yesterday? I have not paid my deposit, so I was a bit confused.

For those going to Visit Emory, I highly recommend attending the Thursday portion if at all possible! You'll get a chance to feel more of the Rollins student vibe through the Student Activities Fair and Convos on Tap. Plus, nearly all Rollins students attend Convos for the free alcohol, so you can get some honest feedback from current students who aren't Ambassadors or highly involved in student organizations!

I registered, too! Only attending the Friday event, but coming in early to spend a good day or so exploring some different neighborhoods. It's not much time, but I don't think I will be able to come visit again before having to find housing and relocate (you know, in the event I luck out with aid and I can actually afford the program).
I was thinking about doing that as well. I haven't booked my flights yet but I'm still debating if I want to arrive Thursday morning/afternoon to explore ATL and look at apartments/neighborhoods or arrive on Thursday evening and explore on Friday evening or Saturday.

In the same boat! I’m forgetting some of the unresponded programs! Which programs are you waiting for? I’m seriously thinking to commit to UMN Epi MPH. I know you are living there, I’ll be appreciated if you share your viewpoint with me🙂 it's about one month that I'm searching about Minneapolis, Minnesota Nice, Freezzzing winters, and I got impressed by the sophisticated behavior of the UMN faculty and staffs, and even its highly informative website!! I’ve read in your previous comments that UMN is your 4th choice, and I’m so curious about the reason unless you just wanna move away from Minnesota for a while.
Hi. I wanted to discuss something with you over message but unable to do so because of account settings. Please hit me up. 🙂

I was wondering about this as well...Didn't see any posts about HSB so still sort of holding out hope on that one. Who knows though!

Just got accepted to University of Illinois at Chicago's Epi program!

I'm honestly shocked. After getting rejected from Colorado's epi program, I figured it wasn't very likely I'd be accepted to any epi programs, so I'm over the moon!
Congratulations!! Were you notified by email or by checking your application status?

To those waiting to hear regarding scholarships from Minnesota--I emailed and they said they are wrapping up sending out most of the first round of scholarships. They still have a handful of the in-state tuition waivers left to hand out and they do reallocate funds if someone who received an award declines the offer of admission.

There were more people in previous years' threads mentioning getting merit money, so I am not sure if the reason that there hasn't been news from many applicants from this year is because of a decrease in activity on the forum (last year this time they were on page 52 of the thread!!) or that they are handing out fewer scholarships than in previous years (or both).

No email since the acceptance on Feb 4th. Good luck to you as well!

Speaking of ColoradoSPH, does anyone here have any personal insights on it? I partially applied due to the fact that I can receive in-state tuition and because of its WHO Collaborating Center. The ranking is not amazing, but is that mostly because ColoradoSPH is fairly new?

Has anyone heard from travel assistant program for the Emory Visit day? I submitted the form on January 29th and haven't heard from them yet.. sent another follow-up email to the admission office, but still nothing.. I really want to visit Emory before making my final decision, but it is a bit expensive on my end to cover the entire trip without travel stipend..

I just received some good money from UAlbany. This school is not my top choice and I still have more schools to hear back from, but I'm still very grateful for the scholarship. Coupled with Albany's low cost of living, it will most likely be one of the best financial decisions (though, again, it's still hard to tell right now). Does anyone know first hand of the MPH - Biomedical Sciences Program at UAlbany? Or what life in Albany is like?

Trying not to feel overwhelmed... and just trying to be patient still!

Thanks a lot for info. You are one of top 5 stats in this thread, and I would appreciate it greatly if you share your financial awards asap, because you could be our reference 🙂
I hope your first possible explanation will be correct, second one could be a tragedy 🙁

Congratulations! If I may ask what percentage of tuition is the scholarship covering?

Thank you! It covers roughly 50% for the first year, I believe. I haven't fully done the math out yet. Nothing is guaranteed for second year except in-state tuition price if I declare residency in NY.

Did you apply here too??

50% is a decent award. I am actually thinking of applying there since their in-state tuition is about $462/credit. It seems very affordable for me.

Congratulations, that is a great award! I am waiting to hear back from UAlbany for financial aid too. Did you receive the Axelrod scholarship? Given that I am a NYS resident, it is an extremely affordable option and well-ranking school in state and throughout the country, so it is a top option for me at the moment. Did you apply for additional fellowships from UA?

Adding my stats! I have benefited so much from lurking- so thank you to everyone who has shared so far 🙂

Aw, I almost flew out of LAX but I am in Orange County and was able to get a decent deal out of John Wayne with American Airlines. I will do almost anything to avoid LAX haha. The only 'bummer' is my flight out isn't until early evening on Saturday, so i'll have to find something to do that day before going to the airport.

I wish I had that option. I'm coming from Columbus, Ohio, so any other airport would be at least an extra hour and a half away. lol

Hi! I am not applying this cycle, but wanted to offer my advice because I grew up in the Albany area. The School of Public Health is actually across the Hudson River in Rennselaer, which I don’t know as much about. In general, the area does a have a comparatively low cost of living. Albany itself has some good parts and bad, like all cities. Rennselaer/Troy area is the same way. There are some really fun events, especially during the summer. I grew up in a suburb and didn’t travel into Albany much, but I can tell you that being in Albany puts you very close to the Adirondacks and Saratoga, which are both great places to visit.

During my summer internship (during undergrad) at the New York State Department of Health, I learned that they have a great partnership with UAlbany. I met several grad students working at DOH during their practicum!

Sorry if this wasn’t that helpful— Albany can be dreary in the winter but there is plenty to do both in the city and around it. I think you should definitely visit though (probably when it is warmer) because you need to see for yourself!

When did you apply to Columbia?

Is the CSS profile required for aid from GW? I still haven't heard back 🙁

Hey, congratulations!! Did you get the mail from graduate division or SPH ?

Only if you want to be considered for need-based grants, I think you're automatically considered for merit scholarships. I submitted a CSS (cost $25 booo). From one of the emails I received: "In order to be eligible for institutional need-based grants, you must complete the 2019-2020 CSS Profile and use our school code: 9608."
I submitted a CSS profile too but got a fee waiver to cover the cost.
By the way, did your scholarship email specify how much need-based funds awarded?

Oh nice! I ended up not applying for the RA position. I want to get settled into things before I consider a research position. The best of luck to you, I hope you get it!

I do plan on going both days. I need to look into flights and hotels too... my parents live across the sound from Seattle but it'll be too far to stay. I'm excited though!

Is aaaanyone still waiting for an email from GW financial aid? They had said in the facebook group that yesterday they were wrapping up the award emails.....but nothing on my side yet

Let me know if you have any questions about UA or Albany itself, I spent the first 18 years of my life in the area and did 4 years at UA for undergrad. I'm pretty familiar with their SPH and the staff and a few interesting opportunities on/around campus.

No word for me either

The trend I see with myself and others who have posted here is that the longer they make you wait, the higher the percentage offered. So hang in there. 🙂

Here's hoping! And congrats to you on your scholarship!

if you're still waiting with your 90%+ every section self, I am no longer concerned in the slightest. Thanks!

Ha, thanks! Hopefully this week will bring us both some good news.
