You still have yet to hear back about a decision for the MPH program? Don't worry I had to wait 4 months. Submitted my application 10/8 and it went to review on 10/10. I think the MPH Admits students on a rolling basis though. I applied for the MHS program though since I don't have 2 years experience.

Correct, Haven't heard from the MPH program. I mean I know I applied around January, but come on, this is getting ridiculous. Then they expect us to make a decision within days/weeks of receiving a decision.

I declined all my other offers (including UW health services 😉 ) Good luck! Actually I take that back, I got accepted to UCLA over a month ago and my decision status is still not updated on the site so I haven't been able to decline it just yet 😛 Really excited about Berkeley!

I recently went to a public health mixer and spoke to a student who recently received her masters in Epi (MPH) at UCI. I asked her about her experiences at the university she didn't seem too enthusiastic about the program however she did say it is a very small program and since they are fairly new there's not as much oppurtunities as there is at other universities.

I'm definitely considering UCI because it will save me a lot of money. I got waitlisted at UCLA (not sure what my chances are) and got into BU but since I live in Socal I don't know if it will be worth it. I know UCI has a new program but it's a great school and I'm positive there will be great research opportunities! Let me know if you hear back!

I got the email on 2/17 that my application was complete and then they emailed me 2/27 with an acceptance so it was pretty fast. I would email them and ask them about your application!

Unfortunately, my trip was shortened because of cancelled flights/bad weather, so I didn't get to sit in on a class or meet with a student like I really wanted to. I just got to meet with an admissions counselor. She talked to me about the program, course requirements, practicum, etc. but I don't feel like I got any more insight than I would have if i just looked at their website. I liked the fact that you can do your practicum the summer after your first year and they offer a lot of help finding a place to do it at. And I also liked that they offer so many opportunities to study abroad. And although I like the idea that they have professors from all over NYU, it does make me worry that there will be a disconnect between faculty/students and no real sense of community. NYC is great and would no doubt provide amazing opportunities for studying public health, but I wish I could have gotten more of a feel for the school itself.

Not many of us EH/EHS here, so it's always good when I find another EH student as well. I have been lurking also when I saw EH. I applied to plenty. Emory, Columbia, BU, JHU, UCB, UCLA, UCI, SDSU, UT, Tex A&M, OSHU, UMass Amherst. I am currently accepted at BU, Umass, Tex am, SDSU. Waiting on UCI and Columbia now. I am trying to get the ball rolling just in case I have to make the move to the East Coast.

Yea I completely understand. It's been such a long time, but hopefully you hear back really soon. I've been really stressed out trying to make a decision in such a short amount of time especially with financial aid information not being made available. Oh ok. The program seems like a decent program, and NYU has a lot of resources for students to be able to find whatever they want, and the name itself is certainly strong. I too worry that the program may be a little disjointed. Also NYC is very expensive, but from what I can see it looks like many of the students can easily get jobs in NYC or NYU fairly easily....we'll see how everything turns out....but overall I think there are a lot of positives about the program

Same 🙂 But I applied to Global Health Leadership at USC. I'm a little bummed they will not be sending out decisions until June :/ even if you applied last year which is really late. I've heard great things about SDSU's epi dept as well. A former professor of mine told me how one of her students went and got her mph in epi at the university and right after she graduated got a job at the San Diego Health Dept as an epidemiologist.

I feel like they will but you know the main problem is that some people hold on to their acceptances knowing that they are not going to attend the university -__-. I wanted to call today and ask how long the wait-list is but I most likely will later on this week. It's definitely a long wait and i'm in the same predicament as you with it being risky but it's both of our top choices so I guess we should wait it out? But on the safe side, I would accept admissions to another university just in case and if you get off the wait-list just say that you will not be attending the university anymore (I'm hoping that we can do that lol).

The reason I ask is because you are required to complete 64 credits by the first year in order to qualify for the 75% tuition waiver for the second year. When I counted the credits from the sample curriculum for my track, it came out to 108 credits, but they don't list the total credits needed for graduation anywhere on their website. Maybe the quarter system vs. semester system is what is confusing me. For example, why is Harvard's MPH 42.5 credits while JHU's MPH is 80 for the one year MPH. Is the quarter system roughly double the semester system in terms of credit hours?

For me at the other school I am considering (Michigan) tuition is $40,000 per year since I am OOS, so JHU will be cheaper. I hear living in Baltimore is relatively inexpensive compared to most cities. Rent can be as low as 700-800 per month in some cases. Right now I am paying 647 a month to live in Ann Arbor without utilities. I am pretty set on attending JHU, but I am going to wait until admitted students day before I make my final decision. Everything about the program fits me perfectly and I have contacted some of the faculty in the CVD epidemiology program and they have been very helpful.

I think that's a good plan. I'm planning to do the same. The only bad thing is that if you send in a deposit and then decide not to attend that school they may not return your deposit. But I still think it's worth the risk.

The $55,000 number is with the tuition waiver applied. JHU normally is ~$46,000 annually (this is just tuition, not including room and board and other fees). I am not sure when we will get our financial aid packages but I have sent them my FAFSA. I think their priority deadline is 3/15 for JHU. Second year students focus on their research/masters thesis but I have heard students will often take more advanced coursework that will help them with their thesis work.

Nice! Congrats to the acceptances. I applied to BU, UCLA, UCI, UIC, and UW. So far I've been accepted to BU and UCI, waitlisted at UCLA and I haven't heard back from the other two. I'm in California so in terms of money it's best to stay in SoCal but that most likely means UCI. I know BU is better because it's an older program and more established but I don't know if it'll be worth the amount of money haha. Which schools are you deciding between?

Congrats! I definitely have suggestions...a lot of people like to move to Allston/Brighton area because it's much cheaper and on a map is looks close but I don't recommend it. It's an hour commute on the T and incredibly inconvenient. I highly suggest spending a little bit more and moving closer, either to the South End, Fenway/Kenmore, or Back Bay. South Boston is fine too, but it's not super convenient by public transportation. Dorchester and Roxbury are also close and cheap but they're not quite as safe. Start looking for a place now, no joke.

DO NOT bring a car. I can't emphasize that enough. You'll hate your life!

I live in the South End now and I split my rent with my boyfriend so we each pay $800, heat and hot water included (always look for that). Roommates are the way to go!

Where on the West Coast are you from? My BF and I both went to school in LA and he's from Santa Monica

Wow thanks! I will definitely keep that in mind when I look. I am from Norcal. Pretty nervous about moving to east coast, so I am trying to do all the research ahead of time.
