This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi Everyone,

Been lurking here for a few days and figured I'd participate!

Undergrad School: University of MD, College Park
Undergrad GPA: 3.4 Cumm/3.7 Major
Major/Minor: Behavioral and Community Health
Grad GPA: N/A
Grad Studies: N/A
GRE:

Experience/Research:
-Interned (and also worked part time) at my local health department doing community outreach and health promotion
-3 years work experience in the public health field, including the health department and two non-profits in Washington, DC

Applied: GWU (MPH-Health Promotion program)
Accepted:
Rejected:
Waitlisted:

I submitted my application on 12/9 and had a complete application on 12/30. I received an email from GW on 12/30 stating that they received my application and that I'd be hearing back in 8-10 weeks. Anyone know if it's a true 8-10 week turnaround? I'm getting anxious seeing that some have already heard back from them, but I know I applied later in the year. Thanks and good luck to all!!

Oh hello, potential classmate! 😀 I did apply a bit earlier than you - was already SOPHAS verified (10/28) prior to my GW designation on 11/11. They also told me 8-10 weeks, but I got a decision back on 11/26...so it was more like 2 weeks for mine. However, it obviously will vary by program, and they've said they've been absolutely inundated just prior to the 12/15 priority deadline so 8-10 is probably accurate (may be less, though!). I didn't apply for Health Promotion (applied for Community Oriented Primary Care), but we would be the same department (Prevention and Community Health). Hopefully they will be equally speedy for you and with good news!

Hi! Thank you so much for the info. I feel somewhat relieved! I did read that they are pretty backed up so I will try to be as patient as possible lol...wish me luck.

I assume you accepted and are attending this Fall?? If so, that's awesome!

Thank you!!!! I was not expecting it at all!!! I just opened my email and saw the official letter  Totally makes up for getting rejected from Yale yesterday lol

Wooohooo! San Francisco is way more beautiful than New Haven anyway 😉

Did they post anything about the decision on their applicant portal? Or did you only receive an e-mail?

Haha thank you, I definitely think so 🙂 But they emailed me a letter, I haven't gotten anything on the portal yet!

I was accepted, which I'm very happy about since it is my top choice due to location! However, I'm still awaiting decisions from Columbia, Yale, and UMD! Whoo!

Congrats! That is so exciting! For those of you have seen the "Pay Admission Deposit" link on OPUS, have you received any other "official" notification like an email?

Thanks! Yep, I applied for the MPH in epi. I still don't have the letter out there, but I started telling everyone anyway because I'm so excited. :soexcited::clap::hardy:😀:joyful:

That's great news! From what it seems based on past posts, having that is essentially a guarantee! :soexcited:

That's exciting! Good luck with the rest of your choices and maybe we will end up being classmates :highfive:

From what I've read, the link pops up and then a while later you will have a .pdf when you click on the "View Admissions Decision" link. It doesn't sound like anyone got an e-mail. I did not get an e-mail before the link popped up. I just refreshed it for the 5,789,942,762th time.

Uhh, does anyone know how to change your MyHSPH password? The email says it's under manage your Novell, but I'm not seeing that anywhere

Yea so before you put in your log in info there's a link below the log in box with the Novell thing and it'll let you change your password there 🙂

Hi there! I found a lot of useful information from this thread. Hope my application will provide some clues for other international applicants.

2. 6 month intern in a local consulting firm
3. 2 month intern in the Food and Drug Administration in China
4. Attended Harvard Summer School in undergrad (still the best memory ever!)

Accepted: Umich Epi (1/9)

My dream program is Umich HMP. I love this program and I heard the competition was quite fierce. As for Harvard and JHU, those are schools beyond my dream lol. Let's see how it goes!

Wow, congrats! You must have had a stellar application, I didn't think Emory gave out decisions this early!
Wow! I didn't know Emory would give such early decisions.... this will increase the OPUS checking! I've applied for BSHE

Congratulations!!!! I've seen people in older threads saying that the pay admissions deposit link was pretty much a guarantee for an in. I hope I get to see that link soon!
Ok Anyone with this exciting Emory news from BSHE? All very exciting stuff.

I got my official "we're reviewing your application" email from Yale this morning. I've the flu, because apparently no one in South Florida understands that whole don't share your germs idea. I also work in a doctor's office, so there is that. Since waking up sick Tuesday morning, I've check OPUS about 22 times a day. I've stared at my SOPHAS application page for hours, and read 4 books. I wonder if the number of times we've logged into OPUS counts, you know, if we're in the maybe pile. I think it definitely should.

I'm so terrified of getting the flu after being sick last year for two months straight. I'm sure that was more due to me working with small children (I used to teach Kindergarten-3rd). And small children love to touch touch touch and god knows where their hands have been! Teachers aren't allowed to touch students (they recommend air fives only), but it's hard to tell a 6 year old not to hug you! Especially since a lot of them are deprived of love at home so I didn't want to be mean by telling them not to touch me, but I'm sure that's how I became so ill.

I'm going off topic.

I hope you recover 🙂 Get some rest.

@IntriguedStudent, by chance, and I know this is going to sound nuts, but did you go to Agnes Scott? I know you said you've been in Atlanta a while, and I thought, as an ASC alum, maybe that was why. If not, just ignore my insanity.

I applied to Emory a few days ago, maybe 1/3. I got my OPUS stuff Monday, and just now at 8PM was told my file was complete and being forwarded to the Epi dept. They said 3-6 weeks. My sister lives in Atlanta, I went to UG there, and I know Emory/CDC well, as my cousin is a medical officer with them (he just left Liberia, as US Director of Ebola Response). Unfortunately, that isn't going to get me in. Congrats to everyone that's in so far, and hang in there to everyone waiting on pins and needles!
Wow you heard back about your OPUS so soon! I applied on 31st and still haven't heard anything!

How long did it take for you to get your OPUS log in?? I applied 12/31 and was verified 1/8 and haven't heard anything so just wondering. Also, are there any Social and Behavioral Sciences/Health Behavior Health Promotion applicants? haha so many epi applicants--which is great, of course!

Haven't heard any decisions back from any of the schools I applied to. My SOPHAS application was verified on Dec 9th, 2014. Ahhh I know its only been a month but I refresh my email constantly throughout the day. I may stop performing basic functions soon just from the stress.

Anyone at this point or am I just the only one who is a nervous wreck?

Oh and also anyone else applied to Canadian Universities as well: UToronto, Guelph, Waterloo, Queens? :wideyed:

I applied in several rounds. My first was Dec. 15, and I was verified the 18th or 19th. When I applied to Emory on Jan. 4, it was all released right away. That may very well be the difference. I applied 1. Epi and 2. Behavioral Sciences. It took me about 5 days from getting their initial "we have your application" until I got my OPUS login. From there I got another e-mail saying my application was complete. There are just a ton of e-mails!

It took almost a month after I was validated, but I applied early, so I think that was just when they started sending out the info

MPH - Health Promotion applicant checking in! I've noticed lots of epi people here as well 😀

What programs are you applying/have you applied to?

Has anyone who applied to the UNC HPM MSPH or Michigan HMP MPH programs received an interview invite yet? Based on the 2014 forum, it looks like they started coming out about this time last year.

I have applied to UMich's residential HMP/MHSA program, and I too noticed that around January 15th, people in previous years started to advise of invites to interview. Based on that I'm assuming/hoping we will start seeing some notifications from a few happy posters by the end of this week.

UMich's SPH Admissions office has a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/UMSPHAdmissions . Note they mention getting slammed with over 300 applications during the Christmas break.

It's going to take them a while to review all those packages, so if you don't hear anything for a few weeks, I wouldn't worry. This is especially valid if you submitted yours very recently.

Good luck!

Congrats! That is so exciting! For those of you have seen the "Pay Admission Deposit" link on OPUS, have you received any other "official" notification like an email?

The only thing I've received is the link on OPUS to the acceptance letter and another email from Emory saying I need to fill out my financial aid information.

So exciting to see all the acceptances coming in, congratulations everyone!

Is anyone else just waiting on one more school? I wish it were February already so I could look forward to hearing something from Columbia, but it seems so far away...

Ahaha! I used to work at a non-profit off the Southern Avenue stop. Whew. You're guaranteed to see a couple of peculiar stuff over there. Especially when you were on the Green Line going up to Branch Ave. after 3PM (crazy youths)... Happy to know I wasn't the only one noticing the dude selling oils. I kept asking my co-workers if they saw him, but they kept telling me no. I started to think that I was losing my mind! 😳

I think I've had a couple of odd experiences since I look very young for my age. I still get mistaken for a high schooler and I'm in my mid-twenties. Had a kid asking me in DC if I was going to my high school's homecoming

Anyway, if I do decide to go I would love to go sight seeing. I missed out because I was mostly there during the government shutdown. If we both go, we should go sight seeing together!
There's always people selling oils lol...You're not crazy.

I know how you feel... I have technically 4, though 2 are pretty much out of the running now. Columbia and VCU will be mid-Feb, Harvard in March, and Johns Hopkins doesn't say but it looks like they release their decisions around that time too. Agh!!!!

Out of the running how? Did your acceptance to Emory trump two of the schools you're still waiting on?

Good luck with your remaining schools, and good luck surviving that long wait!

I am literally waiting on all of my schools except one. It's nerve wracking.

I applied to 7 schools, so now I'm waiting to hear from 4 more. I think that I have an idea of which school would be the best option for me--out of those 7. I've somehow managed to befriend a medical editor that works for the NIH and I've been basically consulting her since last September. IDK, we'll see. I'm not at that 100% "sure" stage yet.

Any hope of hearing back soon, or are you waiting on mostly schools that don't release decisions until February/March?

Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah, I'd prefer Emory over Columbia because they are tied for me as far as the school goes, and Atlanta has a much better cost of living. Unless Columbia came through with a full ride or something ridiculous. And definitely Emory > VCU.
