MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I got in about a week after I was verified in early December. An email I got from them said their usual turn around time is 3-6 weeks but I'm sure you'll hear back before then.
Wow so quickly! That's awesome.
Today is actually the 4 week mark (exactly haha)

I applied on December 10 and got "complete application" on December 19. NO idea when I should be hearing back but it's driving me crazy haha

Oh sweet, I bet we'll be in the same crop of announcements?

I'm getting nervous...I was verified on 11/24/2014 and I have not even received a confirmation e-mail from Yale, Tulane, George Washington, or Columbia. Has everyone received confirmation e-mails from these schools? I've received confirmation e-mails from Pittsburgh, Emory, and Michigan so schools definitely have been receiving my application...I'm just a bit confused.

That does seem odd. I only applied to two of those schools (GWU and Columbia). I received confirmation from Columbia before my application was verified (and again after) and received confirmation from GWU very shortly after I was verified. I would suggest calling to ensure that they received your application. However, I believe Columbia is still closed for the holidays, so that may be why you haven't received anything from them.

I was verified on 11/5/2014 and received confirmation from Columbia on 11/7/2014, and from Yale on 12/3/2014.

Maybe e-mail them to ensure they've received all your app materials?

So I just got off the phone with Yale and apparently all the e-mails from them were dropped and never made it to my e-mail address. GWU contacted me and said they have no record of my application and that there is a problem with SOPHAS. This is ridiculous and SOPHAS will not answer my phone because of "high volume". It just does not make sense to me how some schools could get my application but others don't...

Wow. That's kind of insane. I hope that all gets straightened out quickly! Also, I always had better luck with e-mailing SOPHAS. They are generally quick to respond.

Ya I'm on hold with SOPHAS right now, I am figuring this out.. I don't know how this could have possibly happened.

Yeesh, that's horrifying! It spurred me to email Columbia since I never got a confirmation from them - just bunch of "you still owe this recommendation letter according to SOPHAS" emails after I had already submitted complete with three recommendations way before deadline due to me deciding to add a fourth recommender after submitting. I ended up withdrawing that request because he was not able to do it in time. I would have asked him earlier, but he's super off the grid and I couldn't find him.

So SOPHAS says everything is fine with my application, all of the schools should have received it. I guess certain people in admissions do not have access to all of the applications so that is why the person at GWU could not find my application, probably because it is under review. So huge heart attack for nothing but I am contacting all the rest of the schools today just to make sure everything is good.

Absolutely my worst nightmare!!!! I hope it is resolved soon! Good luck!!!!!

I would still double check with somebody else at GWU to make sure that they received it. Seems kind of fishy.

I am on the phone with GWU right now and they still cannot find it so they are getting the admissions director to try and find it now. This is so strange.

😱 It's very strange. There have been quite a few errors with SOPHAS this year based on what I've been seeing on here.

Ok, so I guess at GWU if you applied for the MS in Public Health Microbiology & Infectious Diseases they always have issues pulling up your application in the admissions office. So my application has been received and is under review and I should hear in the next few weeks. Thank goodness. So if anyone has not received an email from GWU with this specialization it is probably for this reason.

Good! I'm glad to hear that nothing went wrong.

Not so far. Emory wasn't my top choice anyway, but a rejection still stings.

Well at least it wasn't your top choice. I agree that rejections sting...especially the first one. My first rejection was from GWU and it definitely hurt to see that even though it wasn't my top.

On the other hand, your first acceptance will feel amazing!

I had a similar problem and it turns out there was a typo in my e-mail that I provided on my SOPHAS contact info. I would double check that and make sure it's all correct. Good luck!

Yes, there was a problem with my e-mail address and about half of all my emails from schools were never sent. So I've had to call all the schools and have them resend the emails to a different email address and now everything is sorted out! Made for quite a hectic and stressful day though...good luck to everyone!!

Undergrad School: Colorado State University
Undergrad GPA: 3.5
Major/Minor: Cultural Anthropology
GradGPA (if applicable):n/a
Grad Studies (if applicable): ---
GRE (12/18- Q-150, V-159, W 4.0)
Other Test (if applicable): ---
Experience/Research (please, be brief):

- 5 years: Active duty Air Force--meteorologist--traveled/worked in Europe,Africa & Central America
- 4 months: Intern for public health program at SW Colorado tribe; assisted in all PH activities and initiated/completed mortality screening for past 40 years -- identified primary/secondary causes (quant data used for grants currently)
-Senior capstone project on PTSD, it's cultural construction, and how it reduces patient/practitioner's perception of one's illness experience to exclude socio-cultural factors. (Completed interviews with VA psych doctors and a psycho-pharmacology professor.)

I've only applied to the Colorado School of Public Health-->Global health and health disparities. I'm really interested in applying some of the anthropological skills I've learned throughout my undergrad within the scope of public health.

If you guys know of any other schools that are known for a health disparities focus/anthropological approach feel free to let me know!

Good luck to everyone.

Cheers,
John

Are you interested in a career in research (you seem to have some experience in that)? If so, you could consider some MPH/Anthropology PhD combined programs. I know there are a few schools out there that offer them.

Has anyone else just received the HSPH account information email from HSPH?

No email for me.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm sure you'll get it soon. It's HSPH's applicant portal that allows you to search for scholarships, info on the school, etc. There's also a tab for the admissions decision, which at this point just says my application is still under review.

Also there's a little note that says applicants are notified of their decisions in February and March

Just waiting now for the student financial services office to send login information for the financial aid application, deadline is February 13th!

Has anyone who applied to the UNC HPM MSPH or Michigan HMP MPH programs received an interview invite yet? Based on the 2014 forum, it looks like they started coming out about this time last year.

Yes I got it too! Have you figured out how to change the password?

Yes! it took me a while to figure it out. Just click on the link they've put in the e-mail (don't login), and right under the login field there is a link in blue (it's the third one down) that says "Manage your Novell/ My HSPH account" click on that and that'll direct you to the password change form

Was scared to check...but so happy I did! Got accepted into one of my first choices - Emory! 🙂
Ahhhh I just checked and still nothing! I see a lot of people are hearing back from Emory today. Dying to know 🙁

I received a confirmation email from Columbia. My app was SOPHAS verified 11/19/14 and I got the email on 12/5/14.

I submitted my application January 1st, and it was verified yesterday(the 7th). But Columbia actually emailed me on the 6th saying they began reviewing my app. Tulane also emailed me before my app was verified.

Congrats! What concentration?
btw IntriguedStudent I see from your profile that you're from Atlanta. How do you like it down there? I'm from the New England area and have never been to Georgia. Hopefully I'll get to visit Emory before making a decision but I'm not sure yet If i'll be able to.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll hear back from them soon! It took them 3 weeks after they received my completed application to make a decision
