MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I seriously thought about it, but with my stats I figured my chances for acceptance were relatively slim. Plus I just really want a change of scenery and preferably to get away from the cold! It's -18 today!

Ya I was worried about it too, until I spoke to someone at the admissions office. I was hesitant, but I figured I had nothing too lose.

I am still studying for my GRE but I got a GRE waiver (I have never taken the exam) from 4 of 6 schools; since I have a Masters degree. Ann Arbor & BU would not budge -___-

But totally understand! I'm looking for a new scenery and I'm madly in love with Chicago since I moved last year I don't want too leave!

Best of luck!

Has anyone heard from Harvard today?
I haven't yet. I called earlier this week to asks again if they would release decisions Friday and they said it could be anytime from now through March so honestly idk

How long did it take people to get verified after your transcripts were received?

Has anyone else applied to and heard back from Yale's MPH in the SBS department? I applied over 10 weeks ago...

They got my application 7 weeks ago. I emailed them on Wednesday and they replied and said that I should hear something back within the next two weeks.

Who else is still waiting for Columbia HPM? This weight has me on edge.

I am!!! I keep thinking if I messed up on my interview? I left thinking I did well but I keep refreshing my email like a crazy woman! Lol...

It was my first interview thus far, I'm not sure if I talked enough?!

When did you schedule your interview?

I haven't logged in to the HSPH portal more than the first time to set it up and the second time to do their school financial aid form. Today was the first time I've logged in since and I can't stop. The odds of my being accepted are virtually zero, but I can't help it.

Same here! They're the only one I'm waiting on now (well technically VCU too but they've been knocked out of the running by other schools actually accepting me). I'm starting to get as bad as I was with OPUS...

I've been checking this site twice a day the past few days. But today I was checking this site like a crazy woman :heckyeah:.

I wish Tufts would tell me. Someone a few pages back said they heard on Wednesday, so I assume I'm a no. I was hoping for a yes if only so I'd end this with a .500 batting average but whatever! (I see my math there is still wrong, but Harvard doesn't count because no one gets in. Says me.)

I submitted on 11/30 and it was verified on 12/9. It just depends on how busy they are. They've also been having issues with snow in the town in which sophas is located.

I did! I was verified on 12/8 and heard back about 10 days ago. They're releasing them in batches, so yours should be on the way! I sent in an email asking for a timeline and they gave me an estimate of two weeks for my application, and I heard back within.

I'm still waiting... Since 2/10/12... 1 of my transcripts took almost two weeks until they posted it up. So now I am just waiting for my application to be verified.

However, Columbia interviewed me last week even though I am not verified.

I had my interview almost 10 days ago!

I had mine on Wed and I know there's at least 22+ people who interviewed this week...

I'm dying ••• as much as I want to stay living in Chicago; Columbia is the program I'm looking for! UIC is still good ranking wise, but it's not in the top 5

I'm so curious to know how much the US news 2016 ranking may (or may not) change

I got into University of Washington and UNC earlier this week. Good luck to all of you!
Jealous!!! Which program at unc? 🙁 I hope I hear soon. I got into udub a few weeks ago (ms epi)

Okay so I did know that I wasn't my best during the interview for HPM at Columbia, got an email that i have been waitlisted . Still bummed. That's a polite rejection probably . Does anyone know of past miracles where waitlisted candidates made it to the school ?

Now i have Emory versus USC versus GWU versus Waitlist ! 🙁

When was your interview and when did you receive the email?

Also don't be too hard on yourself; waitlist isn't a rejection. They aren't required to be polite cheer up!

The interview was on 16th this month, received a mail after four days with the decision.
Thanks , which department have you applied to ?

Eeek! I'm getting nervous now!

Same department HPM my interview was on the 18th; he skipped over my resume and dived right into the questions and no matter how much I prepare I can never stick to my script lol

I've been refreshing my email like a mad woman since Wed...

for anyone that has heard back from JHSPH especially from the MSPH program - how did they notify you of your decision? Did they email you or was it posted on their online portal?

Don't give up hope! I know someone last year who didn't hear back until early March and was accepted, so it's totally possible. People have heard back as early as mid January this year, and I was the one who heard back this week, so there's a wide range.

yea , same story , it was so much better when i took my own interview , 😛 . Don't worry you'll hear a positive reply soon.

Which other schools have you applied too ?

Lol I know! Plus i was a little thrown off that he didn't want to go over my CV that would have slowly got me to my comfort zone of tooting my own horn

Thanks I hope so! It's my #1 School of Choice.

I applied to UMich, Columbia, BU, George Washington, UIC and Indiana Fairbanks SPH all Health Policy Management (Administration) concentrations and a global health certificate... Hbu?

cause i dont have much work experience so i'm very sure JHU is out of question. have my acceptance from Emory, Umich and GWU as of now .How come you didnt apply to Emory (just curious) ?

Congrats!!! UMich is #1 in HPM (HMP as they would call it!) And it's a beautiful city! Also my hometown and I'm an alumni so I may be a little bias

To be very honest asides from looking at program structure ranking location etc... I originally based my selections on schools that would waive a GRE (I have an MS, but I have never taken a GRE it was waived for me at the time of my graduate program)

My parents pushed me to apply to UMich; so I'm in the process of taking my GRE atm. Emory wouldn't waive my GRE and I wasn't crazy about moving out so far away. But it's a great school and I met a few alumni once I moved to Chicago.

I really have my eyes set on Columbia, UMich and UIC.

Good luck to you , as of now it is Emory, will wait for the waitlist , lets see if we meet 🙂 . That would be great . Will be waiting for for your decision , keep posting 🙂 All the very best !

Thank you! You too!!! I need too stop refreshing my email ... It's getting ridiculous lol Hopefully you'll get off that waiting list

@fernweh526

I applied to the MSPH program in health policy, and I received an email to check my JHU portal a few weeks back. In the portal, it said "A decision is ready for you" and there was the official letter embedded. Hope that helps.

for anyone that has heard back from JHSPH especially from the MSPH program - how did they notify you of your decision? Did they email you or was it posted on their online portal?

Anyone here anything from Harvard? I'm just sitting at my email all day, everyday, pressing refresh.
Quick look on gradcafe shows they have started releasing decisions within the past few days.. Only see decisions for epi /biostats doctoral (Phd) degrees tho, no masters and no other public health disciplines. Hopefully you hear soon !

Is there something else were are suppose to fill out asides from FAFSA? That was due earlier this month? I'm so confused if I should be applying for Scholarships now or later (if I get accepted)
I think they automatically consider you for scholarships but for full consideration you had to have the FAFSA in by Feb 1.

I didn't know until I think Feb 12th that's when I submitted my FAFSA. Feb 1st is so early and I'm a late applicant :/

I was rejected earlier this month - applied a bit earlier than you - and saw someone else on here had been accepted. They seem to be rolling out decisions in waves. Good luck!

February 1 is their priority deadline but their hard deadline is the 15th! I e-mailed the financial aid office haha

Phew! I barely made the cut then just by a few days

It's just a Bazar deadline... I am so use to filing FAFSA in March/April

But I guess it's one less thing to worry about! Going to be spending all week staring @ my email

any recommendations on what to do if you're being given the run around on your application status? I have yet to hear back from my first choice school and I'm at 10 weeks already. I really want to emphasize to them that it is my first choice but when I call I am not put through to anyone other than the front desk assistant who answers the phone. Anyone had experience in this area?

I've deliberately chosen not to call my school. I still think its in the acceptable window of hearing back. Give it another week or so? That's my advice.

How long did anyone wait for their username/password information from Tufts to find out their admission decision?

It depends on what school it is as to whether or not that's in a particularly long time frame, but I'd say just hold off until at least March. It's killing me waiting on Harvard because I really want to start narrowing down my options but there's not much to do but wait right now. There's probably tons of people calling about statuses and that's not going to make them go any faster. Unless they gave you a date you would hear by and that was over a week ago, I'd say hold off.
