MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So exciting to see all the acceptances coming in, congratulations everyone!

Is anyone else just waiting on one more school? I wish it were February already so I could look forward to hearing something from Columbia, but it seems so far away...

I applied to 8 and only heard from one. D:<

I've only applied to four, but also have only heard from one. I know GW has been slammed with apps (I imagine mostly for epi, too) I'm panicky and checking my email constantly - even over the weekend UGH but it is true that it's still pretty early. 🙁 🙂 Well, at least with Columbia we know that they aren't slowly rolling out the decisions right now hahaha.

Just wanted to give an update to Emory GLEPI people! I believe that most of your applications have been reviewed by the Epi department and are probably on their way to the Global Health department for review, so you should all hear back soon!

I only know this because I applied for the GLEPI MSPH program, without listing any secondary programs. I didn't get into the MSPH program, but I did get an email saying I was accepted into the general MPH Epi program. However, since I did not list any secondary program she wanted to confirm whether or not I was still interested in GLEPI so that she could forward my application to the Global Health department.

Best of luck to everyone!

That's great to know! Thanks for the update. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

For anyone who has an interview with Columbia's HPM department I just had mine. It was pretty straightforward and really short (20 min and I asked a lot of questions). Basically they were mostly interested in why you want an mph and why you want to go to Columbia.

Looks like you already have some great options! I also have concluded that I applied to too many programs. 🙄

I just another notification...I GOT INTO GWU <3

and Congratuations to everyone else's acceptances!

Congrats!!

Awww man. Got rejected from Emory's Epi program, which was my second choice. Congrats to those of you that got in.

All of this Emory talk has me checking OPUS constantly. Wondering if anyone here applied to Emory BSHE? Seems that all the Emory decisions have been for other departments.

Bummer 🙁 At least it wasn't your first choice and will make making a decision easier 🙂 Looks like you got into some great programs so I wouldn't worry too much about it!

For those that have already heard from Emory, when did you apply? I didn't until the very end, 1/3 or 1/4 so I can't decide if not hearing is good, bad, or indifferent.

Thanks! Definitely keep faith! Congrats to everyone else as well.

Question about Tulane: when were you verified? I contacted them in December and they said it could take up to 6 weeks (!!!). How long did it take you to hear back from them?
My application was verified (as complete)right before the Christmas holiday (literally Dec.24th). I was contacted last week. So about 3 weeks. I didn't get an official letter yet. I was called for a phone interview to clarify part of my SOPHAS application. She told me she was recommending me for acceptance. And to expect an email & an official letter by next week.

I hope this helps. Stay positive.

Thanks! Hoping that the length of time isn't a sign of rejection.

I have applied to their BSHE ddepartment! No idea where I will hear back from them though. This wait is killing me!

Submitted to Emory 11/17, SOPHAS verified 11/19. I got an email when they sent it to the epi dept and they said it would be 3 to 6 weeks after that. It was a little over 3 weeks after that email.

Has anyone heard from NYU MPH?
I just emailed them yesterday and called them the other day to leave a message asking where they are in the admissions process. I will let you know if they reply back. Last I heard from them was in early December about receiving my application.

Yale released a batch a few days ago right? Has anyone heard back from them since?

I haven't heard anything. From reviewing last years blog, I have a theory that they are reviewing the applications roughly in the order that they were received. My application was considered complete by them around dec 10th and most of last years applicants that had complete applications around the same time heard towards the end of January. This could be completely wrong, but it's making me more patient haha

I think you may be right. I keep looking at 2013 decisions to see a pattern. The most noticeable one up till now is Columbia. It's weird because they rejected people a day before they send out acceptances. Feb 19th, 2013 and Feb 20th, 2013

I applied in several rounds. My first was Dec. 15, and I was verified the 18th or 19th. When I applied to Emory on Jan. 4, it was all released right away. That may very well be the difference. I applied 1. Epi and 2. Behavioral Sciences. It took me about 5 days from getting their initial "we have your application" until I got my OPUS login. From there I got another e-mail saying my application was complete. There are just a ton of e-mails!
Since I haven't heard anything would you recommend I contact them?

MPH - Health Promotion applicant checking in! I've noticed lots of epi people here as well 😀

What programs are you applying/have you applied to?
Emory, UArizona, BU...so far. I am considering Temple but not sure yet. How about yourself?

Accepted to Tulane's MSPH Tropical Medicine/Parasitology program!! Just waiting on Emory and an interview with OSU then it's time for me to make some decisions around here 😉

I just got accepted for the EHS MPH at the University of Minnesota! That had this cute video of their president saying congratulations and whatnot! I'm so happy and excited, since I'll probably got to UMN unless I get into Harvard or Drexel turns out to be really cheap!

Just GWU...at least for right now. Working full time in DC and am planning on going to school part time/in the evenings. Can't exactly pick up and leave right now 🙁 That may change depending on their decision though. We'll see!

Whoa, are you me? Hahaha, seriously, though - I'm also struggling with that decision of whether I want to keep working my job and going part-time.

Received an email this morning informing me that I have been accepted to Emory for HPM--and an invitation to be reviewed for the MSPH program as well! Does anyone have any info on that program? I did not consider it when I applied, but now I may. Nothing yet on OPUS to reflect this.

I have a question for those of you who have already been accepted to programs but are still awaiting the decisions of other programs...

What is the standard protocol for negotiating something like that? When you received your offer(s), were you given a date by which you would have to accept or decline the offer? Or was an immediate decision expected?

And if the policy or procedure wasn't made clear, how did you go about asking for that time? Or is that not a good idea?

Your inputs and advice are greatly appreciated...

Don't worry, I think it is required that they give you until April 15 and provide you with a decision before then so that you do not have that dilemma.

The school will tell you when they require a decision by (usually non-negotiable). As stated above, I believe the earliest that can be is April 15. However, some schools do have later deadlines.

From what I understand (I applied to the MSPH program for Epi), the MSPH degree is more research based and the cohort is smaller. This page has more info and a handy comparison graphic: http://www.sph.emory.edu/departments/hpm/degree-programs/masters/index.html

Has anyone heard from UWashington? I applied for MPH-Epi, submitted my application on the 30th of November. The website says they make their decision by early March! Seems like such a LONG wait.
