Good luck to you as well!!!! They emailed me last month saying the same thing. Texas A&M said that they would review applications mid January, so it should be any day now!!!

Haha, yes. From now on I will, but before I got the email saying my app was forwarded I didn't. I still think I'll only check it ONCE a day haha

I was a bit surprised at the number of male-only scholarships. I understand that it is a very old institution with very old, long standing money and donors. I guess it just never before occurred to me that it would be so obvious, even in scholarships. About half of them appeared to be limited to male descendents of certain (already wealthy) New England families. Luckily for me, I got to self-identify as a Jewish student and a student with a BA from the South. Did anyone else notice that and think anything of it? Admittedly, I went to a women's college so that still is a bit odd to me, even now.

Yes, I noticed it as well--but I wasn't surprised. It is what it is.

Being an international applicant, I will not be able to attend the open house...Waiting for the notifying e-mail...!!!
 
Just got my acceptance to Emory for HPM! :drowning: Randomly woke up and had a good feeling.

Was SOPHAS verified on 10/31 so I assume I was in the first batch to be sent to the college. Good luck to everyone else!

Now to the question of financial aid and going about assistantship/research opportunities... Any word?

I was shocked as well, I only fit into one scholarship category (being of English descent), otherwise all of them seemed to be male-oriented!
 
Since some people are receiving decisions on weekends, does that mean that MAYBE some schools might send out decisions on public holidays like tomorrow??
 
I'm actually quite curious, do you guys frantically await decisions because you want to know where you'll be next year, because it's your #1 program, want to feel accomplished, or what is it?

This is actually the first time I looked all weekend but personally for me it's because it's far and away my top choice

I guess it is a mix of all you mentioned. Also, I really like the program at Emory and it will help me make my decision as to where I will be next year. I have been thinking about going to grad school for a long time so I am really really excited in general, and a little bit of an A-type personality 🙂.

I don't really check Harvard, because I think that's about a 1% chance. For whatever reason, I think I've a much better chance with Emory. My UG was around the corner, and our schools have partnered for a very long time on a myriad programs. I love Atlanta, my sister is there, my friends are there, the CDC is there. If I get in to Emory, I think there is not much that will change my mind. It is my real dream school that I've got a true chance at. I check 97 times a day because I really do want it that much. Plus, I really miss this pasta place around the corner. Nope, that's not even a joke.

I've noticed the same thing.

I'm a little older and have seen enough of the world to know that I'm playing with house money. I have my goals and hopes but, in the end, what will be will be (or not be). That said, when I take an honest look at how I was in my mid-20s, I know I would not have been any different.

I appreciate the enthusiasm of the younger people. From what I can see, they're all very supportive, positive and encouraging. I think it's great.

Jesus you really have your eggs in that basket. hope u get in then.. seems to me people wouldn't be as interested in emory if it weren't for the CDC. I know that's the main reason I applied

I'm going to be happy no matter where I end up. I just want the degree and then the PhD. I'd like it to be Emory so I can be close to my sister. The CDC has regional offices all over, so while it is a big draw for many, it wasn't for me. I'm going to be 29 in a few weeks, I just want to be a Dr.
 
Received my admissions packet from BU this weekend. Came with a $10k merit scholarship!

A lot of it is because I would like to know where I'll be next year. As I'm married, I'm not making the decision by myself. If I do end up matriculating at a school not in Atlanta, my wife needs to be able to begin the job hunt (or transfer in one of the cases) as soon as possible.
 
Man, based on the crickets chirping about, I take it that MLK day will not be a day of decisions. Fingers crossed for the rest of the week!

For the same reason anyone gets anxious about anything... We've spent a lot of time and money applying to these schools and most of us are adults who are going to have to change up our lives in a significant way for this. It's a nerve racking situation.
 
Hm are schools closed on MLKJ day? My job just recently started giving us the day off two years ago. I know that governmental jobs are closed today, but these are private institutions so I'm lost. I had a dream about my Yale decisions (LMFAO), so I hope to hear from them this week 😳

I might be incorrect, but I think most organizations are closed today - at least it seems that way in the DC-area. I don't work for a governmental organization, but we follow federal guidelines generally (yay for snow days!) and I think it's similar for other places. Granted, I don't work for an educational institution, so...

Edit: I just looked at the HSPH aid site and the university wide site and didn't see anything that said men only. Missing something?

Did you fill out the info in MyFinaid? There's a section where the application asks for you to name scholarships that you are eligible for--there's about five drop down menus where you can pick the names of the scholarships. Most of them are for males or descendants of specific families.

Wow, guess I should have applied to Harvard. Any of those families sound like they are from New Jersey?

You can view descriptions of the scholarships from those drop downs at this page: http://www.scholarship.harvard.edu/usstudents.html

If you haven't seen that already, I hope you'll take a look. I see scholarships for "citizens", "residents", "descendants", "students", "graduates", "natives"... To WHOdriscoll91: unfortunately, nothing from New Jersey...

I have found nothing so far that is gender selective (in fact, searches for "men" and "women" on the page went 0/0).

As far as I can tell, we're talking about the same lists of scholarships ("Committee on General Scholarships"). Am I missing something? If we are...I don't know, retract the indictment?

I know. I already filled it out three days ago. I only qualified for two and that wasn't the website that I was referred to when I filled out the information. If you don't believe me, take it or leave it. I don't really care.
 
The harvard scholarships are mostly for people descended from specific families more than anything else, or grew up in specific locations, or the standard racial minority scholarships.

Does anyone know when Harvard is likely to release decisions based on its previous track record? I don't want to have to go through the finaid application process or FAFSA for them if I'm not going to get in anyway hahaha.
 
I read it somewhere, that many of the "descendents" were male only, not just an actual biological descendent. I'll look and see if I can find it. It may have been in the instructions? I can't recall off the top of my head. @backwardinduction, Harvard is only a few weeks before BU/Minnesota/Buffalo/Drexel will need your FAFSA info, so I say do it. I think they admit mid-February. Harvard seems to get back to applicants around mid-February at the earliest, so we'll probably start hearing back in around a month's time.

When you fill out the application, there's two or three that specify "sons" or "males" in the "descendants" categories. I wasn't eligible for any of them, but I know the HSPH has their own scholarships as well, and I also am not expecting to get in.

They say by mid-march. Grad cafe has historical data. I just did the finaid app and it was really simple. The fafsa has to go to everyone, so might as well get it out of the way.

From what I can see from past posts Maryland waits until the last day of February or beginning of March and its usually a Friday.

I think they're just waiting for people like me lol. My sophas is not verified so they won't send me the supplemental application. It says online as long as your sophas is complete by 1/15/15 you'll be considered. Seems like they review them all at the same time and not as they come in.

Thanks for the reply. I finally opened the supplemental instructions pdf on the application. It seems to be an older version of the list available on Harvard's website.

Needless to say, I'm happy to see that Harvard alumni have amended their scholarships so as to be more inclusive (if not attentive to detail).
