Just received the acceptance email from Columbia's Population and Family Health program!

Seems like they're releasing decisions earlier this year, so hopefully everyone else will hear back soon too

I'm still waiting on this as well...At one of the epi virtual sessions they mentioned awards were given in Feb. with no specifications when during the month.

For those going to Visit Emory and want some help offsetting your costs, apply for a travel grant. I heard about it via the thread from last year and applied for it and got enough to cover my travel expenses! They give up to $250 but it's obviously limited so apply early!

Same with the University of Michigan! I asked if I could get financial assistance to travel for my HMP interview and they said yes (they pay for travel only)! Also, the EPI dept emailed me to see if I needed money for Admitted Student Day (up to $300).

Oh that's awesome! Berkeley's MCH department said they had funds available as well. Not sure how much, but it will definitely be helpful as I am literally flying across the country. Since Emory is only about 6 hours away from me, I'll be driving there.

It took about 3 weeks or so for me to hear back from BU 🙂

Rejected at the University of Florida- not really disappointed tbh. I wasn't too impressed with the program and actually I forgot that I applied (haven't checked the status a single time) until they rejected me.

Considering its not a faculty interview I doubt they put too much weight on it. I think its just to get a sense that you have a goal in mind and can articulate your thoughts if anything. I had the interview last Friday with a horrible cold, could barely talk properly and got the acceptance earlier this week. I wouldn't worry too much about it

Knowing what your goals are and being able to articulate them is very important. If you can't do that, how can you expect to be taken seriously? And if you can't think on your feet, how will you operate in a dynamic professional environment?

To downplay the importance of an interview just because someone had a bad one is to perform a disservice to everyone who's serious about getting into a competitive program. It's your one opportunity to make a personal impression - the most important kind. You have to prepare for those things...

John's Hopkins is killing me... I got the e-mail on 12/1 that said a decision could take 8-10 weeks. This is the 10th week. Has anyone heard a decision who applied to the MPH?

It other news, I got my package from Emory today. It's pretty nice/useful. Don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone if you're into being surprised, ha.

I'm not any sort of expert, but I did read a book on graduate admissions that said some schools use interviews to influence funding decisions.

I don't know much about that regarding Masters programs but that really wouldn't surprise me in phd programs. I know when my bf interviewed at emory the professors loved him and he really impressed then and he ended up getting a fellowship on top of his stipend.

For anyone who wants more info on Columbia's program I've found this part of the website http://www.mailman.columbia.edu/academics/degree-offerings/mph/full-time-mph to be really helpful. It gives a pretty detailed description of what you can expect from the program for both MPH and Accelerated students. Before I found this I was mostly using the publichealth.columbia.edu website which I think is really geared towards prospective students as it isn't as detailed.

I'm not trying to downplay the importance of the interview. I already stated its important channel to get more information on your personality and goals. With that said, I also don't think its the deciding factor as to whether you are accepted or rejected into the program. Some applicants get accepted even without one.

Also the original post I was responding to was to someone who had already had the interview, not giving advice to those who are going into interviews.

Of course its a given that you need to prepare for any type of interview but its also not necessary to treat it like a be all end all for getting in.

It took Pitt 3 weeks to send a pretty curt rejection. I heard from BU in week 4. Now in week 6 and still waiting on Tufts and Harvard.

Received my rejection from Johns Hopkins today for their MSPH in public nutrition. Not surprised due to my low academic performance and how heavily they weigh that. Good luck to everyone else!! Time to accept my GW offer.

I have noticed that aside from Emory, I have received my acceptance to SPH schools on Fridays ( Emory - Tuesday). In case this helps anyone still waiting to hear back from above schools

I too am anxious to hear back from Johns Hopkins! A few of their deadlines were postponed.. I wonder if this will affect when they release their admission results.
The program that I applied for is housed in the International Health department. It wasn't one of the programs whose deadline was postponed. Priority was Jan 2 and Final Feb 1. I wonder when they said 8-10 weeks if they meant 8-10 weeks from when application was received or from deadline.

I got accepted into Emory GLEPI. I dont have any international experiences but I am an international student. Indonesian citizen (6 years), Singapore ex- Permanent resident. Been in the states since 2010.

Fingers crossed we all ( who applied) hear back from JHSPH tomorrow!

I applied to Johns Hopkins online/part-time MPH. My app was SOPHAS verified on 11/19. I got confirmation on 11/21 that my app was completed. I was accepted on 01/12/15. You will get your decision soon, be patient. 🙂

Yeah, I applied to the ScM in Epidemiology, and the deadline was postponed from February 2 to March 15. I submitted my application in November 🙁 I wonder why they postponed - maybe not enough applications?
