I really need help deciding between Columbia and UW. I am going insane!!!
I visited UW and was so impressed by the school and the city, but making the move across the country would be so hard. I could picture myself in Seattle the entire time--it fits my personality well. Also, Columbia is an Ivy and everyone (on both the east and west coast) knows the name. I'm just worried that Columbia is too impersonal. Columbia probably has more things I'm interested in, but that's not to say that there's nothing at UW.
I haven't yet visited columbia, but I'm not sure of I will get down there before April 15th--what do I do?????!!!!

I did, and they repeated the whole "up to 6 weeks, check the admissions portal" speech. Not so helpful 🙁
You could say something like, "I'm very interested in attending x school, but funding may pose a significant barrier. Are there any options/resources that could help with this?"
If you have other funding offers and are feeling very bold, you could even throw in a line about the offers from their competition. That may be hard to pull off without coming across as tacky.
You may just get a generic response telling you to look at loans/employment/ etc, but if the alternative is just declining, it's worth a shot.

I was able to decline my admission, but I still get e-mails from them about things such as immunizations 😕. My admission's experience with them was kind of weird though. For some reason, I received emails saying that I was both accepted and rejected to the school. Additionally, my online portal had two notifications - an acceptance and a decline. No idea how that happened.

Can someone please explain to me why public health schools only give out decisions on Fridays?
Is anyone hearing back DURING the week at all?
I swear first Harvard told me to send an email to them requesting an Expedited Admissions Decision, which didn't give me my decision.
Then they told me that if I said I got in somewhere else & was waiting on Harvard, they would tell my decision...no such luck
Why can't eveyone be on the same page when it comes to admissions? It really frustrates students...

Plenty of schools give out decisions during the week, Harvard just tends to do it on Fridays.

I don't want to call Harvard anymore, because then they will be annoyed by me. I can't imagine going through that crazy snow storm. What did Bostonians do when they were trapped in their homes due to 10 ft of snow and they desperately needed food, or an over the counter medication at 2am from a 24 hour pharmacy?

If it helps I called Harvard and they would finish sending out decisions by the end of next week (3/20). (But to be honest, I'm not sure if it does because I called last Monday (3/2) and they said we would find out within two weeks which would be this Friday). No worries! I received a letter notification of acceptance before I even received anything through email and when I check my portal application the status still hasn't changed. It still says "DEPARTMENT REVIEWING FILE FOR PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY". My friend also submitted around the time you did so best of luck!!

So I just want to know because I want to see if there are any internship opportunities for me this Summer.
What are you all doing this summer before your MPH programs begin?
I wanted to see if I could take a course at Harvard, live there and get financial aid, or if I go to Columbia, take a course there.
Or I could not take a course, and begin a PAID internship in Boston or New York. I guess I would have to contact the careers office at both school to set this up?

I'm going to see if I can get a job or paid internship in the city where I'll be attending grad school. I plan to move to wherever in early July for residency purposes even if it's a private school. I feel like it's just easier that way for taxes, especially if I'm still planning on working and living in that area after graduation. If not, I'm going to either backpack Europe, take a trip through East Canada, or a cross-country US road trip.

I'm also planning to move to wherever I'm headed early in the summer (although earlier than you are saying). My current lease ends in June and it just isn't feasible to move twice. Hopefully there will be some job opportunities or paid internships available that will help me make ends meet for a bit.
As grueling as the wait is, it still isn't very bad at all compared to a lot of other programs. Med students start applying as early as a year beforehand and all find out on March 15. A lot of PhD programs don't start releasing decisions until well into March, either. I'm an obsessive planner so it's a grueling situation for me, but at the same time I do understand it's Harvard and they're probably overwhelmed by applications and the snow and March 13 really is not that bad in the scheme of things. I think it's nice that most programs seem to have been releasing decisions piecemeal as they make them. So, yes that means that the app process is a little unpredictable, but the alternative is we all wait until a day in mid-March to find out.I got my Yale rejection

I'm working until late July then moving. I recommend getting paid for as long as possible until you start school, but Harvard's summer program looks nice too.

They emailed me directly. I also got it from my advisor at the Friedman School (I'm dual-degree MS Nutrition / MPH), so most likely the scholarship came from them and not Public Health, but it can be applied to either portion of my tuition.
Used to be a management consultant - Ace the Case is okay, but everyone swears by Case in Point (by Michael Cosentino). He really teaches the structures well. Good luck!

I'm kicking myself for not retaking the GRE. I got my quant score to the 90th percentile in practice tests I think I just wasn't all with it. Then I'd have scholarships to Columbia and Emory. Ughhhhhhh!! Posting this as a warning to people perusing during next years app cycle

I went to UW for my undergrad and I can say without a shadow of a doubt Seattle and UW will blow you away once you live here. The campus is unreal, the faculty are amazing, and Seattle is arguably the best city in the world 🙂. Obviously I am biased but it has been amazing to live here the past 5 years. I am heart broken to leave.
Columbia's campus is a bit more urban and dated. If that doesn't bug you then it might be a better choice given the Ivy standing but in terms of quality of life I think Seattle is the place to be.
