MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hmm, yours says required to fwd app for review? That's weird, mine says "Initiated" ... I'm confused.
In the email they sent you about OPUS information they should have explained what the difference between each status means.

"Initiated: Outstanding item, required to forward an application for review.

Notified: Indicates that an unofficial supporting document has been received. Application will be forwarded if all other materials have been received. The official document is still required for admission decisions to be considered final."

Anyways, I just got another email 1/15 saying that my application was complete and it was forwarded to my first department of choice. I ended up starting a 16-17 FAFSA and entering Emory's school code, but did not submit my FAFSA yet.

Anyone here applying to the Global Health Epidemiology and Disease Control program at George Washington? I spoke with GW admissions last fall and was very disappointed that they discontinued this program. However, I just recently found out they revised the program and are now accepting students.

Hi guys, I have a question for people who have been accepted to the University of Texas.

Did all of you apply to the Houston campus? Did anyone apply or get accepted to the San Antonio campus? I applied to the San Antonio campus, and am just a little worried that I haven't heard back. It seems like there are quite a few UT acceptances.

Thank-you & best of luck to everyone!

Hi! I applied to the Dallas campus and just got accepted on 1/14, so hopefully you will hear some good news soon!

Hi all!
Just deciding to apply now...very late to the game and not really sure how SOPHAS works just yet.
how long did it take to get your apps verify?
I'm trying to decide if i'll even make deadlines at this point...
Thank you!

I submitted my applications on 1/4 and they were verified by 1/5. But, verification time varies at different points during the application cycle. I called SOPHAS and asked them how long it was taking to currently verify apps before I applied and they were very helpful. I suggest you do that to get an idea of how long it might actually take. Also, MOST schools just require you to e-submit and pay for apps by the deadlines -- not have the app verified by the deadlines. You can call the schools you want to apply to and find out if they want your app just e-submitted or verified by the deadline.

I hope that helps! and good luck! 🙂

I got an email from UTHouston that the department I applied to thought I might be a good fit for another department and if I want them to also review my application. Good sign or bad sign? 😕

Go for it!

Definitely go for it! That's awesome they are even suggesting that option 🙂

Good sign! But do ask what department (if they are willing to shed some light on that) you are being considered for 🙂 Shows that you are interested!

has anyone got the chance for the interview of Program Health Metrics and Evaluation (University of Washington)? I have not got any replies. Does it mean that I am not strong candidate?
"Applications will be reviewed between December 8, 2015 - January 13, 2016. Strong candidates will be invited for an interview with one or more faculty members from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation. All candidates will be notified of their admission status no later than February 1, 2016."

Assuming the "pay admissions deposit" teaser is still a thing, just got in to Emory. 🙂 verified 12/7.

Hello! I'm new to posting on this forum but thought I would chime in and say that I got the "pay admissions deposit" thing this morning too. Based on what folks have said in the 2014 and 2015 forums, it's supposed to be a pretty surefire indication of acceptance. I applied to Behavioral Science and Health Education and was verified on 12/7.

Also, congrats to everyone who has heard and many thanks to all the contributors who have shared their experiences.

I hope you are right about U of M and Emory. They're tied for my top program! Thank you for the feedback. Best of luck to you on you as well. Did you end up applying anywhere else?

I will have to apply to other schools next year. The last five years I have completed three master degree programs. I'm pretty burned out right now. If I don't get into Yale or Harvard (pending), I'll take a year off school to rest.

Congrats! I had the "pay admissions deposit" link early this morning and the decision letter posted just a couple hours later. I applied for BSHE too, Emory is my top choice!

I just got my decision letter too! Congrats on getting into your top choice! I'm waiting to hear back from UNC but would be absolutely thrilled to go to Emory too.

Woohoo! I just got my decision letter as well -- also applied to BSHE. Thanks for the heads up, everyone -- I probably wouldn't have checked OPUS today otherwise!

might be a silly question, but new to the process... what is OPUS? is that different from SOPHAS?
Thank you and congrats on your acceptance!

It's Emory's student portal. They provide login credentials to all of their applicants so they can check their admissions status and apply for financial aid. I would say it's similar to ApplyYourself or ISIS at other schools.

:/ I still don't have any decision from Emory. Did y'all already submit your FAFSA?

Congrats to everyone who heard from Emory! I'm waiting on their MBA too so fingers crossed that something happens in my OPUS soon 🙂

Don't worry. I haven't either. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think people who applied earlier like in December are going to hear back first. I haven't even got the email that my app has been forwarded so I plan on calling to see (even though we should be getting an email). I feel like those of us who applied later (around Dec/January) are going to hear back near the end of the month or February.

I haven't done my FAFSA yet but I don't think you need to for your application be forwarded?

Congratulations to all who have been accepted. <3

Yeah I think you're right, and no I was pretty sure FAFSA completion wouldn't make a difference, but I just started to momentarily stress out. Haha

Same here!!! The only reason I checked OPUS is because I saw these posts! And I just got accepted for BSHE as well!! I'm soooooooo happy 😀 I went to Emory for undergrad, and was really nervous about hearing back! Also the turn around was crazy fast - they just forwarded my application to BSHE on the 15th!

My app to Emory was verified on 1/13 and I've yet to receive instructions for OPUS. Did anyone else wait this long?!

I never got the email but you can login without the email from them. just go to the opus website and create a login

Anyone hear anything from NYU? I'm pretty sure that on one of the open house calls they said they did rolling admissions, but I'm not seeing anyone here hear anything. I submitted in November.

I believe I saw someone post on GradCafe that they heard back within a week? I can't seem to find that post again to link it to you though. I applied last week and haven't heard anything back. However, I gave admissions a quick call before I called and they said I should hear back in about 6 weeks. Their website does say admissions is on a rolling basis.

Maybe make sure that you have everything submitted? GRE scores, transcripts, etc. And if you're sure you're good on your end, it wouldn't hurt to give the school a call and try to get some info.

Congrats on all the acceptances to everyone! I don't expect to hear back from Emory for a couple weeks at least. Is anyone still waiting to hear back from GW Epi?....This marks the beginning of my third week of waiting 😕🤔

Yupp, still waiting on GW Epi!!

Lol I've been waiting since the end of November! There were definitely people who got accepted and rejected weeks ago who applied after me though

The wait to hear back from Emory HBHE is killing me. I am at work and I can't think about anything else right now!

I was accepted to Emory for BSHE! This was my first choice, I'm so happy. Thank you all for your help throughout the process.

Edit: I was so worried about my low quantitative and verbal scores, but hopeful because of my writing score and experience/academic achievements. It's not all about test scores folks! Good luck to everyone who has not heard back yet! I can finally rest and breathe and stop being anxious.

I applied to GW Physical Activity 7 weeks ago and no response since then.... Should I be nervous? Cause I am

For emory people,

Did you receive the email that your application was being forwarded to your department in december or just last week?

I submitted in October, verified in November, and received the email just last week that it was being forwarded to my 1st choice department (global epi)

The waiting game is killing me

I agree with amm13d. You're pretty close to their 8 week time period that they formally state on the complete email. Definitely give them a friendly call.

If you don't mind me asking, I saw on a previous post you mentioned you applied to UGA? Have you heard back from them?

I have not unfortunately... Only heard back from UT and Saint Louis so far

Sigh, really? On the FAQ section of their website they said they'll get back to applicants in two weeks? "The average time between the beginning of application review and notification of decision to the applicant is generally two (2) weeks. Once a decision is made, applicants will be notified via postal mail by the UGA Graduate School Admissions office."

I called last week and found out that they kept my app on hold for my 4th letter of rec request not being submitted, even though it was not a requirement. Therefore, my app was put into departmental review last week. Maybe make sure you don't have anything similar going on? I'll keep you posted if I hear anything back from UGA.

Yep, got it last week also. I think a good handful of people also did.
