MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Accepted to Johns Hopkins for the schoolwide MPH! Has anyone heard about scholarships/fin aid from JHSPH yet?
Congratulaion...Scholarship decision will be announced in mid March. When did you submitted your application? I mean is it before or after the scholarship consideration deadline?

Hi guys, I have a question for people who have been accepted to the University of Texas.

Did all of you apply to the Houston campus? Did anyone apply or get accepted to the San Antonio campus? I applied to the San Antonio campus, and am just a little worried that I haven't heard back. It seems like there are quite a few UT acceptances.

Thank-you & best of luck to everyone!

I was accepted to UT at the San Antonio campus on Monday but I am an MD/MPH dual degree candidate.

Hey guys! Just got my acceptance email from GW (Community Oriented Primary Care). I submitted my application 12/14, received a completed email on 12/22 and just heard from them today. This is the first school I'm hearing back from so I'm excited I finally heard back and it was positive!

Accepted to UCLA HPM (1/19) and invited to interview for Michigan HMP (1/20)! I am going to Michigan's Visit day on 2/12 🙂

Still waiting to hear back from Hopkins, but Michigan is my top choice so I am ecstatic!

I was verified by Columbia 12/4 but heard nothing since. I'm seeing lots of invitations to interviews on here. I guess it's not a good sign that I've heard nothing. Still waiting for BU and Johns Hopkins too

Which department did you apply to? From what I know, only HPM conducts interviews.

Getting used to seeing a blank Opus with no decision LOL. Ready for rejection letter, but you never know.
Don't lose hope!

I'm still waiting on BU as well and received the "we'll make every effort to let you know by the end of December" email. Should I follow up if I don't hear by the end of January? I really don't want to bother them. Is anyone else who got that letter still waiting?

GWU finally came through! Accepted after a 5 week wait, so nobody lose hope yet if you didn't hear back in like 2/3 weeks. Seems like it is taking longer now.
Great news! Thanks for keeping us in the loop

Anyone know what's going on with South Florida? It said the decision would take 2-3 weeks and they said my app was received on Dec. 4 for Epi/Communicable Disease.

I submitted in November and didn't hear anything back until last week or so, so it seems as though the 2-3 week decision time may be a bit inaccurate, hah.

Congrats! I applied too, on 1/2. When did you apply and did you get an email with the acceptance? Thanks!

I applied 11/30 and no, you have to check your status on the UGA ID they give you!

Thanks for creating this thread. 🙂

I also have a question which I'd appreciate if anyone could answer - When listing the colleges attended on SOPHAS (Academic History section), does one have to list any study abroad institutions as well? I ask because I'm an international student and I've checked with the schools I'm applying to - they only need a WES evaluation for the institution I received my undergrad degree from, but not for the study abroad school. Still, I'm not sure if I should still list it here and then risk SOPHAS rejecting my application because I've listed the school but not provided a WES evaluation. Any thoughts? I emailed SOPHAS and but they didn't really get my question / give me a clear answer.

Cheers and all the best to everyone! 🙂

Thanks akki99 - Your GRE score is still pretty good, so don't lose hope. I didn't have an interview for JHSPH. I just received an email with the outcome of my application stated. However, I submitted my application on 7th November and it was verified a couple of days later.

Don't lose hope. I saw a lot of acceptances into BUSPH way before I got mine, and mine was verified in the 2nd week of November.

Congrats! I applied too, on 1/2. When did you apply and did you get an email with the acceptance? Thanks!

Jumping in here but I applied 1/6 and UGA admissions told me I should hear back by next week. Hope that helps!

Hi there!
I added my study abroad school to SOPHAS (because it asked for ALL institutions we attended), but didn't apply for a WES eval because all my study abroad credits/titles/grades are listed on my home transcript. SOPHAS didn't reject my application, but I have been running into some trouble with the schools I've applied to. I received emails from 2 schools (so far) telling me that my application was incomplete because I was missing a WES eval. I just emailed them back and told them my situation and they took care of it, but it's still a little unnerving.
Hope that helps!

Actually, that was a very old post that I had responded to several months back. I think what happened was a new user wanted to reply to that post, but made a mistake and only quoted the post instead without leaving any text of his own. PHPenguin has already submitted and received some acceptances, including Hopkins.

I'm extremely late to this, but I've been following this thread since the beginning. I've been too afraid to post my own information because well...rejection sucks and stuff. But, I've been waiting and waiting for an admissions decision from a school that is supposed to get back to priority applicants "around January 20th" telling myself I would post my information when I received, at least, one acceptance somewhere so I wouldn't risk total humiliation. I'm now starting to believe I haven't received a decision letter yet because I haven't posted to this forum and the universe is playing some sort of mean trick on me. So...here it goes:

Undergrad School: Portland State University
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.24 overall (I had a rough first year)/3.92 Major GPA
Major/Minor: Community Health Major/Biology Minor
GradGPA (if applicable): N/A
Grad Studies (if applicable): N/A
GRE (including date taken) or Other Test (if applicable): (9/29/15) V=157, Q=156, W=4.5
Experience/Research (please, be brief):
- Population-based research at Oregon's largest provider of homeless services on diverse individuals with complex health histories for 7 months conducting 530 interviews as a team of 8.
- Cleaned, aggregated, and analyzed data in SPSS
- Co-authored a research paper on Gender differences in service utilization rates among low-income and homeless individuals. (A continuation on the research listed above)
- Volunteered in a health care setting with an infectious disease nurse tracking nosocomial infections each month, follow up with labs to obtain test results and cultures, as well as create reports for submission to the state. Ran analysis on communicable disease trends within the facility
- Presentation to certified nursing assistant students on stopping and preventing disease transmission in a health care setting.
- Co-authored a grant for a Native American diabetes prevention program.

Interested in: Cancer Epidemiology
Applied: Pitt MPH (& PhD) (1/1/16), UNC (MS-PhD) (1/1/16), Oregon MPH/OHSU (12/1/15), UCLA MPH (12/1/15), Harvard MS (12/15/15) and a couple of schools for PhD.
Accepted: UCLA MPH Epi (1/29/16), Oregon MPH/OHSU Epi (2/8/16), University at Buffalo MS Epi (2/10/16-I applied to their PhD program and was rejected, but recommended for admission to their MS program instead)

I guess it might sound silly... But is it odd to get an admission letter 4 days after school set my app status to complete?

IDK what you are so nervous about, it looks like you have very solid stats and experience. Keep your head up!

Congratulations! Please give some of that luck to me?! 😛 I was just told by the program coordinator at one of the schools I applied to that they didn't plan on sending decisions out until the week of Feb. 22 🙁 This waiting game is the worst.

University of Michigan: "You have been recommended for admission to the University of Michigan School of Public Health by the Health Behavior and Health Education department. Your admittance will become official upon certification by the School of Public Health's Office of Academic Affairs. Once your recommendation has been verified and confirmed, your status will be updated. Please note that you are not officially admitted until that verification has taken place."

Ahhh! But I am not sure that I want to be where it's cold! :/

What school was this??

Has anyone heard from Michigan's EMA program yet?

Accepted to Boston!

For those of you that received grants from BU, was that information included in the acceptance email?

It's in the "formal acceptance letter". Its another email they said a few days after the acceptance email with a bunch of pdf attachments. Its also in the mailed acceptance package.

Ah yay! Now let's see who attends... Hmm. I'm glad your wait is over for Boston though

received decision via email today for EMA, however nothing on Wolverine Access...... so..... all the paranoid feels. lol
What time did you receive your email? I was supposed to hear back today, but nothing yet...

Thank you! I think the whole applying to grad school process is really just a process of self-deprecation and doubt about whether you're actually good enough. Plus the waiting game is just killer, I'm keeping my head up for sure and congrats on your acceptance to UM!
