Mid April........ What?!?! All of the schools I got accepted into have a decision deadline of 4/15. I don't think I have much of a chance of getting in so I'm planning accordingly but, they should at least send out some rejections so people know.

Ugh so frustrating! I received the same email, word for word, except mine said mid-March. I emailed them end of February. Not really sure what the hold up is at this point. =/

I think this is quite easy; BU has a lot of night courses and is quite flexible. Nearly all classes I took there were night courses and many worked part time.

I got a really good vibe from the program on Spring Visit Day. I had originally applied to HSB and it was my top choice, but I came away confident that MCH would be an even better fit. The quantitative focus that I had initially worried about seemed like it would really provide me with good skills for employment later (methods, better statistical knowledge, etc.). I was also impressed with the breadth and depth of the MCH network and the various opportunities available through the program for internships and research. Also, I was considering UCLA, but I didn't really like the idea of doing a comprehensive exam rather than a capstone project. Finally, I grew up in the Bay Area and would be happy to return for a few years (and I think I should be able to get in-state tuition through a state law that lets CA high school graduates get in-state, even if they are no longer residents). Oh, that in-state tuition law is awesome! Sounds like you've thought this through and are making the right choice for you.

At this moment, I feel like I've settled on Berkeley, too, but I don't want to speak too soon. I still have UW to visit!

Just turned down JHU MPH, and will do the same for Tulane. Hopefully will open up spots!
Also just found out I was offered a TA position for the first year at UNC (awaiting the official letter). I had written off financial aid from them. I am excited and even more confused now.

I guess I am between U Michigan, Emory and UNC. I am having difficulties getting off work for Emory Visit day, so might have to go another time on my own, especially because UNC wants to hear back ASAP.

Anyone else losing sleep over this? Anyone have new input re those schools? Good luck deciding everyone!

COPHP! I'm both excited by and nervous for its non-traditional program...

I know you're in undergrad and aren't considering Berkeley for grad school, but do you know any of the grad students? Do you have any sense of how difficult it is to get a GSR position? They talked up GSI/GSR at the Visit Day but I really didn't get a clear picture of how hard it is to actually get a position, especially in research rather than teaching.

If you don't know, that's fine! Just thought I'd ask. 🙂

It seems there's still a day to apply to nyu. What chance does a last minute app have. Hard to argue it's the place I really want to be.
 
Heard back from Yale a few days ago. It's a no from them; meh lol. Last option school for me
 
Accepted to CUNY SPH for the Public Health Policy and Management MPH Program, and to Weill Cornell Medicine M.S. in Health Policy and Economics Program!!!!! Excited about CUNY since the tuition is way more affordable, and Weill Cornell since their program seems great, personalized (the Director of the Program called me to give me the news, congratulated me, and offered me a job-GSI or GSR!!).

Hi, I got into JHSPH's MPH program. I have ~2 years of post-undergrad experience (working as a research tech in a JHSPH lab). I'm more wondering about people going for the MPH with only a B.S...

Congratulations on your acceptances. I also applied for MS in Health Policy and Economics program but I haven't got any information back. Probably, it would be a rejection. 🙁:shrug:
Could you please tell me a little information about your stat/background?

any other words on your visit? how do we make this work financially? did they speak of other options outside of GA/TA... If we have the deans scholarship, we cant double dip and get a GA/TA...

Congratulations for making a decision! I know its odd, but I am so jealous of your rejection, still have not heard anything new. But I am also leaning towards Michigan. How was Michigan's admitted students day? I wasn't able to go. And Happy Birthday!! :hardy:

Basically the financial aid department seemed to just advocate loan forgiveness. They talked a little about TA positions but I already tried to apply to one of those and I couldn't because I haven't been a student yet, I think this varies by department though. No idea on the Dean's scholarship.

Yale, Harvard, Emory

I got an email from Yale with a reminder to turn in financial aid documents that I sent weeks ago, am kind of nervous now that they got lost in the financial aid office. Did anyone else receive this who has already submitted everything to Yale? Thanks!

I sent everything to Yale and got the same message so I think everyone is getting it regardless if they did it or not.
 
For those of you waiting on UNC, I applied to Health Behavior and my decision was up on ConnectCarolina on Friday but I still haven't received an official email yet.
 
Just got the financial aid package from Columbia - doesn't look so good. Also, it went to my spam folder, so be sure to check on that.

About me:
Undergrad School: International Applicant from Venezuela (Latin America).
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.1 according to WES (But graduated 1st of my class).
Major/Minor: Economics and Accounting (double mayor).
GRE (including date taken) or Other Test (if applicable): V153/Q157/W3.5 - TOEFL 103. (I did awful on the GRE, it was my first standardized test...and I think I mixed up the writing tasks :s).
Experience/Research (please, be brief): 2 years working in the Department of Health from my city (health policy development, implementation and monitoring. Epi surveillance, and health personnel and budget management). 2 1/2 years working in finance company at managerial position. A lot of research experience (+3 years) within the economic field (3 publications). And +2 years of volunteering (1 year related to health prevention among a specific population from Petare - one of the biggest slums in Latin America).

Interested in: MPH in Health Policy and Management.
Applied: Columbia (12/01), Harvard (12/15), GWU (12/15), Boston University (01/05), Yale (01/15), NYU (02/01), CUNY (02/08), Rutgers (02/10), U of Miami (02/01). Weill Cornell MS in Health Policy and Economics (02/01).
Accepted: GWU (02/05 - Waitlisted for Scholarship), Boston University (02/18 - 15k scholarship), CUNY (03/12), and Weill Cornell MS in Health Policy and Economics (03/11).
Rejected: NYU (02/18).

Still waiting for Columbia, which is my top choice...but I heard a lot of people were requested to have an interview, which haven't happened to me...so at this point I am seriously losing hope :s.

It seems to be real... it gives me the option to accept my award and everything. It has today's date on it...and I haven't received any follow-up email to say it's a test.

So from the beginning they made it very clear that grad student research positions are nearly impossible to come by because they are mostly saved for PhD students. And if you have the Deans Scholarship (I have the 50% one) and manage to get one of these positions, you get 100% of tuition relieved, but your Dean's Scholarship doesn't carry over. So you don't get both at the same time, but if you're holding one of the positions, say, in the Fall, and then you aren't in the Spring, you still get the Deans Scholarship in the Spring, but not the fall.
I was intrigued by the TA positions because you don't have to apply strictly to public health classes.. For example, in May I'll have a BA in Psychology. So maybe I could maybe be a TA for a psychology course and still get tuition relieved for whatever semesters I hold that position. At least, that's how i understood it.

I really enjoyed ASD, I'm pleased with how they treated us. They reimburse travel and hotel costs up to $400, so even though I stayed the whole weekend, I stayed at a cheap hotel and they ended up reimbursing me for all three nights, which I didn't expect from them.
Honestly I only have two concerns with the program:
1. There is no Capstone--instead, you do an "exit interview" with your adviser and communicate in-depth with them about how your internship went, and what you learned from it. Although, they seem to emphasize how flexible the program is, and how in many cases you can pretty much 'do what you want' outside of the 30 HBHE credits you need, so I am sure if I talk to my adviser and tell them I want to complete a thesis, that they would encourage me to do so. It's just weird that it's not a requirement!
2. Concerns with the program having too much flexibility. At ASD some of the 2nd year students admitted that the job search is difficult. They talked about how one HBHE student could be doing something completely different from another HBHE student. This has pros and cons, and I think I'll personally be able to make the program what I want it to be, but others who want a more structured curriculum may be better off with Emory. My main concern, of course, is getting a job afterwards. Although according to UMich's own statistics on their program, 96% of students are employed or seeking higher education.

Thank you @asartoretto for your response. Yeah. I am still hoping. I applied for this Cornell MS HP and Econ on January 15, 2016. It has been two months. However, I do not have GRE scores. But I am studying a master program in New York. I also have a DDS degree from my home country. I just want to know the decision regardless it is a acceptance or rejection.

For most of my upperdiv courses there are 3-4 GSIs depending on size (100-125 students) so the demand is there. Since they have decided postponing dissolving the major until 2020 I'm guessing that class sizes will stay the same. But like mentioned above you really have to hustle for GSI/GSR positions. Many professors with already set relationships with students will offer teaching positions to PhD students first then via word of mouth or recommendation to MPH students. Grad students also GSI for the same class multiple times too so spaces are rare. My epi professor has a gen epi lab and all her GSIs are her students AND they also work in her lab because they sought her out to work with her in the beginning. You don't have to be studying a certain field to GSI for a specific class, but it does help. My HPM GSI was HSB but she worked at Aetna for like 3 years before coming back to school. You can also GSI outside of ph too. There are a ton of intro classes like human physio, nutrition, and soc classes if you taken classes like them before. My human physio GSI was in optometry school. Another GSI I cotaught physio with was in epi but she was interested in exercise physio. I think GSRs are harder to come by especially if your HSB. I know IDV has more research opportunities. If you don't get a GSI/GRS there are so many other companies in the Bay Area that will pay you. I know UCSF has way more PH lab opportunities and also the public health institute in SF. There's a Callisto (job site) specially for PH companies that want a graduate students to work with them. Also people do research at the CA dept of health too. I think that's in Richmond. Honestly there are so many research institutes/ non profits in SF, Oakland, Richmond centered around health as well. Another place to look into CHORI - children hospital Oakland research institute or the hospital itself is a great place to do research. I conducted public health nutrition research there for a while and I loved it. They converted an old high school into research labs. You can email the staff scientists from their website. hi-Columbia MPH people,
Can some one please help me to figure out the total cost of attendance including tuition, fees, books, room and board, and personal expenses for the Columbia 2-year MPH program? I get too confused trying to figure out how much it will cost for two years. Thanks for your help in advance.
 
Got bumped from Columbia waitlist to accepted!

Also I haven't heard back about merit from Emory University, University of Illinois - Chicago, Tulane University, Yale University, Columbia University, and Ohio State University. How/when did anyone else hear back?
