MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
definitely! I was really nervous too, but it wasn't bad at all. It might depend a bit on the faculty member, but mine was super friendly and conversational. She said they really just want to put a face to a name and get to know you/your path to public health a little better. All the questions were pretty straight forward and then there were about 10 mins for me to ask questions about the program and such at the end. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you! 🙂
Thank you so much! Good luck to you too!

Hi everyone! Just wondering, how long did it take for Emory to send you a confirmation email? I submitted a few days ago and haven't heard anything yet.

I was verified and submitted on 11/18, all materials were completed on 11/23 and Emory sent an email on 12/15. However, I think they just started sending emails this month. They're probably out for the holiday until the new year, so I'd probably expect an email after that.

Got it, thank you for this info! 🙂

From what I know, Emory does batch loading from SOPHAS. My guess is that for all those who submitted prior to Dec 1st, email titled "Emory Application Received" was sent out Dec 15th.

I was just emailed that I was awarded the 60k Horstmann Scholarship from Yale!! I wasn't expecting anything like this, but I am wildly thankful and excited. It looks like I will likely be attending Yale next year, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Thank you so much to everyone on this forum who has shared their information this year and in years past. Having access to others' first-hand experiences and details about programs and their application processes has helped curb all the anxiety I had about applications. I can't say thank you enough.

Are all of y'll getting the Yale acceptance/decision, are these all 2-year MPH program? Any of them for the 1-year APMPH? I am getting nervous...

Amazing! Congrats again!

That's incredible!!! Congratulations on your decision, and finishing up your application cycle so early! 🙂

I'm also wondering about this! It doesn't seem like there's a place in SOPHAS to do this, so I'm thinking of sending my updated unofficial transcripts to each individual program.
I asked each program I applied to and SOPHAS about this! Almost all of them said not to worry about sending updated grades, but Columbia and Yale encouraged me to if I could via SOPHAS. UIC said you can just email them your transcripts and they'll attach it to your file.

SOPHAS instructed me to submit my official transcripts to SOPHAS and they'll update my file. You can also update your in-progress coursework and add next semester's courses, but this coursework won't be calculated into your SOPHAS verified GPA, so it's up to the programs to figure out your new GPA.

This is so helpful!!! Thank you so much. So I should just send over my updated official transcript to SOPHAS like I did originally?

The main reason I wanted to send my updated transcript was because I took a statistics class this semester so I wanted that to be acknowledged for my epi and biostats applications. Thank you again for updating me with this info!! 🙂

I requested my transcripts be sent directly to SOPHAS once all of my F20 grades are in like I did before! Yale did tell me they might look at my application before those transcripts get in, so it'll depend on the program whether or not they'll consider the updated coursework.

Got it, that makes sense! Thanks again 🙂

Is anyone familiar with GW's timeline for MPH admissions? I applied nearly 2 months ago and in their email stating that my application was under review, it was written that I should expect a decision in 4-6 weeks... Should I be worried?

4-6 weeks seems to be the correct time frame. I applied 11/23 and just got my acceptance today. I would maybe reach out to double check if they have received everything!

Just got my acceptance for GW's MPH program!
Verified: 12/06/2020
My application sent for "In review": 12/07/2020
Acceptance: 12/22/2020
Congrats!! What department/program did you apply to?

Received 2 acceptances in one day and I am ecstatic!! GW and UT Health - Houston! Applied to both on 11/23. Looks like the admissions offices are trying to get through as many apps as they can before the holidays. Good luck to everyone, don't lose hope!

Hi, did you receive a scholarship upon acceptance? Or did you have to apply for the scholarships separately?

I wanted to thank you for contacting all of these programs and sharing what they said here! I just updated my transcript on SOPHAS per your advice regarding Columbia 🙂 Also really excited to see someone else applying to the same programs I did, so here's to hoping we both get in and are maybe future classmates!

I always look for these, so just rejected from UPenn - Global Health!

Went under review 12/3.
Thank you for sharing this. Seems like sometimes this forum is all about acceptances, but being reminded that rejections are part of the process is important too. I hope you have a happy holiday season and get only good news in the new year 🙂

Hi!

Has anyone who applied to the University of Michigan Health Management and Policy MPH program heard back??

Everything was complete on my application before the priority deadline, 11/29 I believe, just haven't seen too many people on this forum say they applied to Umich! Just curious to see if anyone has heard back!
Apparently this is my night of replying on this thread, but someone I know got into the HMP program on 12/18! It's still pretty early for UMich and both myself and the person who I know got in already are current students in their undergrad public health program, so I'd wager that played a pretty big role in hearing back so early. I'm sure you'll hear good news from them soon! 🙂

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances so far!! had a quick q- is a mistake on the SOPHAS "additional experiences" section going to be harmful? I realized I accidentally entered the same description for 2 of my experiences. this info is correct on my resume, so I hope they overlook it? I wish I could edit it on SOPHAS but I can't :/

I am also curious to know this. It wasn't until after I submitted that I found out I accidentally left one of my experience's description box blank :/
Still got into 2 programs so far anyways, so it seems they may overlook it.

Hi guys I've heard back from (almost) all of my programs within the last 10 days so I figured I'd give an update:
Stats: small liberal arts college, BA public health (psych concentration), 3.81 GPA, class of 2020
1 year of undergrad research with 3 conferences and 1 publication, nutrition-based leadership position on campus for 3 years, currently working a research role at a top 10 US hospital

Applied: GW, UNC, Tufts, Dartmouth, Yale, Brown (MPH for all)
Accepted: GW (community-oriented primary care), UNC (health behavior), Tufts (behavioral science/health communication), Yale (SBS)
Waiting on: Dartmouth (interview 1/8/21), Brown

I haven't received financial info from any programs yet but Yale is my absolute dream school and I couldn't be more excited about getting accepted. For anyone who has been getting nervous looking at Yale stats from previous years, I am a recent college grad with pretty mediocre quantitative training, these were my biggest concerns when applying.

Has anyone had their interview with Dartmouth yet? I didn't even know they requested interviews for the MPH program, not really sure what to expect.

When did you apply to UNC?

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to confirm. Where did you guys enter volunteer information on SOPHAS? For instance if you were a member of a volunteer club for 5 years. Did y'all add it on Additional experiences/ experiences? Or did y'all not add it anywhere on SOPHAS and just made note of it in the Personal Statement?

I submitted my SOPHAS app on 10/29 and my supplemental app on 11/12, status changed to accepted on 12/9
congratulations!! And thank you for letting me know! I'm starting to get nervous (I applied to Health Behavior at Gillings too). My SOPHAS was verified on 12/1 and my supplement was complete on 11/16, so still hoping for the best!

I listed it in experiences! I highlighted one of my volunteer experiences as my top 6 but I also included my experiences on the CV I added to SOPHAS.

Do not worry, I think they overlook it. They also look at your CV! I think those additional experiences sections are just for them to have a quick look at your overall profile. If they have questions they will probably reach out to you.

Has JHU sent rejections? If so, how long did it come after you submitted? Or has anyone been waiting a suspicious amount of time and your portal still says under review?
