MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone else receive an email invitation from BU to attend an accepted students conversation with the dean, but no acceptance email...
Yes I did! very stressed I emailed them for clarification... not sure if they meant "applying students" or they haven't sent out acceptances?
I did too, but my portal is still the same as it has been since I applied. Based on the body of the email it almost sounds like they reused an old email where the chat with the dean was for accepted students, but isn't this year because of COVID-19. Extra confused since they said we likely wouldn't hear back about anything until Jan 15, so intrigued to see if they've started making decisions without notifying anyone or just messed up this email...

Can you update the thread once you find out what they meant? I didn't receive this email but applied about a month ago so a tad concerned in that regard. Also could anyone clarify what someone meant by their BU application portal? I don't remember ever setting up a portal with them, just filling out the supplemental application after I sent in my SOPHAS...

Hi there, I was the one who mentioned the portal! It's just the personalized page they send as soon as you select BU as a school you want to apply to on SOPHAS (I got the email with the link to it in July for example). It's the one that's "Request More Information Full Name Here]/landing" and probably just says "Thank you for your application" at the top right now. There's not much else there, just seems to be a sort of information landing page that includes your name on it. Hope that helps clarify!

Has anyone else submitted/verified but not gotten an email from JH? I submitted and was verified last Monday and have not gotten anything from them...

Ah ok, thanks so much for clarifying! Was super paranoid for a second haha. Set this up so long ago that I didn't even remember it, but just checked and that's what my page looks like as well.

I submitted on 11/29 and just got an email yesterday. Someone else here said something similar!

Does anyone know exactly how the Masters tuition scholarship works for the MSPH program at Hopkins? Is it 75% off total tuition + the stipend earned during the field placement?

For those curious, Columbia's deadline is not SOPHAS verified deadline. I got SOPHAS verified 12/2 and I didn't receive the confirmation email until this morning. I reached out and they said I am still considered priority admission and that decisions will be released Jan 2021!

Anyone here in this thread from the 2020 application cycle but deferred?

I ended up deferring Columbia and received instructions on how to secure my spot for Fall of 2021 today.

I’ll be in the HPM department if anyone wants to chat or has questions about the Columbia decision timeline I’d love to talk, it was very stressful waiting for their decisions earlier this year!

For those who applied to BU, how soon did you receive the supplemental application after verification?

Wishing everyone the best of luck!

Hello,
Nice stats! wishing you luck.
Have you heard anything from UT Houston?

Has anybody already had their interview with JHU for the MHS program (any concentration)? If so, how was it! I have mine tomorrow and I'm not sure what to expect

Feel free to DM if you prefer

Hey guys how long did it take for yalls apps to be verified? I submitted 12/1 and still haven't been verified. I know it goes in the order thatt they're received but im getting anxious. Also, has anyone applied to Minnesota, University of Washington -Seattle or UT-Houston and heard back already?
I applied to UT Health Houston’s DrPH in Community Health Practice and got an invite for interview. They interview all prospective students before making a decision 😫. You should get an email from the committee depending on which department you applied to

I saw you asked about UT Health. I got an interview invite today. It stated that they interview all prospective candidates before making a decision. I’m applying to the community health practice program if that helps

Is my math wrong or is Yale really over 100K for 2 years?

Is my math wrong or is Yale really over 100K for 2 years?
Nope! You are right. The MPH tuition is about 48K/yr (based on 2 semester). The total estimated cost to attend, including living expenses, is about $72K/year.

if I am remembering correctly from when I was considering applying to the JHU MSPH program, the field placements are not guaranteed to be paid

Thank you. When did you apply/submit? and how long did it take?

I think they only do interviews for DrPH or PhD programs I haven’t heard of interviews for MPH programs. My app was verified on the 7th and is now under review

Anyone applying to the Health Policy and Management concentration at Michigan get an email about an interview? I didn’t know that was a part of the application. Any tips?

I submitted 11/30 and verified 12/2 and just got confirmation 2 hours ago.

Undergrad GPA/Major GPA:3.18
Major/minor: psychology
Grad GPA (if applicable):
Grad studies (if applicable):
GRE(including date taken): 326

Experience/research:
1 year working at child development lab as RA (mostly related to EEG)
6 months RA at CMRR (concentration on fMRI)
Currently working at O/I related lab as RA

Letters of Rec:3

Interests: epidemiology and biostatistics

Questions:
1. As you can see I do not have many experiences related to public health, and unfortunately I haven't published any journals related to my research. I am worried about it and my GPA (I am a transfer student, my GPA is kinda suck when I get into a new school)since both of them are not good enough. Can you guys give me some advice on choosing programs or schools?
2. Is it necessary to looking for an internship related to epi and take a gap year? Since I am an international student, I can only apply opt and stay in US for one year.
3. Also can you guys give me some advice on how to write a good purpose of a statement? Should I explain why my GPA is low?

Did anyone receive a link from Harvard inviting him/her to apply for scholarships? Someone I know received the link recently. I would like to know whether we all should expect to receive this link or do they only send it to a selected few applicants? Thanks.
I did receive it today

I don’t think you should worry about not having a relevant internship experience because schools don’t really care about that but they do care about whether you have been dedicating your time and effort to public health in general. Also you can mention about your low GPA in your sop but don’t go too extensive on that as that shows you are not confident and try to focus on your growth since then. Hope this helps!

I got the email as well. I am presuming you created the HarvardKey to login.

In general, in your statement, tell them why you are a fit for the program and for public health as a profession. You can briefly explain your low GPA, but you should also tell them how you have managed to improve your gpa in subsequent semesters/quarters (hopefully your gpa has a upward trend). All graduate programs in any disciplines want to see improvements. Focus on telling them this.

GPA is lower than I'd like because of retaken courses (early in my undergrad), without those my cGPA would be a 3.60. My upper level GPA on the Sophas app is a 3.62 and my Math/Stats is a 3.60 so hoping that carries some weight. Any thoughts are welcomed!
Got accepted into Pitt and Minnesota, have not heard anything about scholarships yet but I'm pretty pumped!

I received an interview to Dartmouth today. I'm applying to the Executive MPH program. I don't remember reading that this was a requirement. Has anyone had an interview. Any expectations?

Just heard back from Johns Hopkins MHS in epidemiology with MTS Scholarship!

Edit:
SOPHAS verified: Nov 30
Email from JHU saying application is under review: Nov 30
Acceptance: August 3rd (after 7 days)

What did you mean by Sophas verified on 11/30 and Acceptance on August 3rd? August 3rd???
