MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just tried this out with the link you posted and it seems I have an acceptance at well??! But no email? I'm so confused because I've never seen this link before. Going to email BU and see what's up
Now it's official through email - accepted to BU MPH in Community Assessment, Program Design, Implementation and Evaluation with 30% tuition!!!!

CONGRATS!!! I'm waiting on Pop Fam still!! Did anyone else hear from that department today?? Also, had no idea about verifying references until you posted this uh oh. Haven't heard anything so assuming all is well...
I heard back around 2 PM today! I think that if you haven't heard anything then you should be fine in terms of your recs being verified!

Omg your turn around time was so quick! I applied to GH too a couple weeks ago but haven't heard anything. Congrats though!!! Would you mind sharing stats?
sure! I haven't posted them yet so I'll just do it here. I started off as a biology/pre-med major which is why the majority of my experience is clinical, but did poorly in those classes (2.91 life science GPA) so my grades have an upward trend into this year. Major/minor: Public Health B.S., Spanish minor

- Summer intern at a free medical clinic for Spanish-speaking immigrants
- Summer intake coordinator/translator for a traveling medical clinic in Dominican Republic
- Exec positions in my social sorority, global health fundraising club, international education fundraising club, residence hall association
- Two poster awards for exercise science research

Letters of Rec:
PI from on-campus research, boss at clinic internship, professor from an honors history course (small class size, opportunity to work closely)

Interests: Ultimately work in humanitarian health setting, NGOs/non-profits abroad. Applying to all global health or joint global health/epidemiology programs.

Applied/Verified: BU (1/6), GWU (1/8), Colorado State (1/8), University of Washington (11/25), NYU (1/6), USF (1/6), Tulane (1/6)

I'm honestly glad I did so poorly in classes like Physics and OChem, if i hadn't I never wouldve realized how much I loved global health!

Just got accepted into Columbia's MPH Populations and Family Health with a certificate in Global Health!

Application went under review 11/30/2020
Final LOR verification was processed on 1/25/2021 which is what I'm assuming they were waiting for since one of the recs didn't answer their emails for a few weeks and finally verified their rec then haha

Oh my i'm worried that might be whats holding up my app now, but they have not told me to reach out. Kinda annoying they do that since our recs had to submit through SOPHAS, and I never even saw the letter.

oh wasnt aware they do that

How are you guys making your decisions on where to go?

I wasn’t sure I would get one acceptance, and now I don’t know what to do!
I decided to commit to Emory because honestly, my other schools are reaches. Plus it's in a location I'm familiar with/like and the curriculum aligns with my interests! I'm just waiting on financial aid at this point tbh...

Oh man! Do they do this for everyone? That seems like a lot of work.

Hey. I didn't submit my GRE score to any programs, and now I'm second guessing because I haven't heard back from any programs either. I got 154 V 150 Q and 4.5 AWA. Does this score suck? Or is it good, should I have submitted it? My GPA wasn't too hot (3.1/3.2 ish) but I think I had a strong SOP and decent experience. ALso, I'm applying to PopFam department at columbia and global health elsewhere (NYU, Brown) , so not Epi or EH where these scores may be uhhh worse. Can anyone give me some ~honest insight~? It might be too late to send to some places, but I'm still thinking of submitting some applications. Thank you!
I had a talk with a Yale adcom and told them my GRE scores and then asked if it would help or hurt me to submit them given the applicant pool and they told me to submit. I feel like most programs will be honest if you call them and ask. You don't even have to give your name if you don't want them to connect it with your app.

is there a portal for BU or an email will be sent?
Apparently there is a personalized link which showed my acceptance but in the acceptance letter, they never mentioned the link. They tell you to refer to the gateway link.

Thanks this is super helpful. I was under the impression that email was the best way to connect these days since so many people are still WFH so good to know. I did email columbia and they were vague but said I could upload any additional docs to my applicant portal and that decisions are still being released in batches. I wonder if this means all priority application decisions have already been made? Anyway funny I'm seeing this now because I literally just decided to go for it, so I sent to columbia NYU Brown. i applied to columbia 12/1 so most likely too late for that application, who knows.

Just out of curiosity... can someone that got accepted from Columbia share what their portal looks like with the decision? Feel free to cut off/cover any sensitive info. I am just wondering where I am supposed to look when they make a decision! 🙂
After you open your decision, it converts to the admitted student portal (if you are accepted), so I can't screenshot it for you. But it essentially was a yellow bar that was like "view decision" at the top of the portal's page. It's hard to miss when they post it!

I'm curious if anyone is applying to Stanford's MS in epidemiology and clinical research? Their admissions timeline is very late compared to other MPH programs...Seems like I would have to make my final decision for other MPH programs (by 4/15 for most schools) before hearing back from them.

Does anyone know that paying the deposit by 4/15 means an irreversible decision to commit to the school?

Got into BU Healthcare Management at 2pm today with 25% tuition!!

Since everyone is asking I received an email of the acceptance. 10 minutes later I got another email notifying me I was "invited to take the next step with your application" and told to go to the applicant gateway. I think this is what others are referring to as the personalized link. However this same gateway as the one I used to complete the BU supplement where they asked if you're affiliated with BU. So at the bottom I can see that affiliation thing. On the top it has a box that says "Get Ready to Change the World! We couldn't be more thrilled to extend you an offer of admission" and lets me click to deny or accept my admission and below that the option to deposit.

To note I checked this gateway a few days ago and could only see the supplemental application asking if you're affiliated. So for people who are confused I would log into the same place you did the supplement and see if its changed.

You get to this page after you login to the portal -

I think they just send out a link to all the recommenders to verify the rec and they can just click it, so if they haven't done it they'll just keep resending it until its done haha

I wouldn't stress too much. I was also worried about it, but if they really can't reach your rec writer they'll reach out to you! My turnaround time from the verification to my acceptance was just 2 days, so it didn't hold back my chances but did give me prolonged stress haha. It's weird that they do that though since it should already be verified via SOPHAS lol

I know it's probably at least 3 weeks away for Harvard to release its decisions, but I don't know why I keep checking myharvard portal, once (or more) a day!

I am hoping I am not the only one doing so! Help me!

Got accepted to JHU today for their MSPH program! I am still in total shock! They sent the email this morning (close to 9AM), and I just recently checked the portal!
OMG congrats that's amazing!!! may I ask which track you applied to/when? I'm waiting to hear back for MSPH in social and behavioral interventions!

Would it be weird to ask a school why they accepted you? Like what part of your application stood out to them and made them think that you are a good candidate for their school. I am just really curious because I wasn't very confident in my application, particularly my SOP, and my stats weren't the best. But I don't want to come off ungrateful or anything for asking.

should I go to BU or UCLA for Epi? I’m blessed to have received acceptances to both and a scholarship to BU

I would not do it at this point because it would tell adcoms at those programs that you lack self-confidence. If you absolutely really want to know, wait until you confirm your seat at a program then you can ask the other programs that question. Do not ask your chosen program that question. If you absolutely want to know, wait until you attend classes at that program and ask.

I suggest you not do anything to jeopardize things at this point. You have worked hard enough to get to where you are now. Do not try anything that would make adcoms question their decisions for admitting you.

Best wishes.

Where do you see yourself living long term? Fielding has great connections in LA and Southern California. I go to UCLA for undergrad and the campus/area is beautiful but it's extremely expensive to live in Westwood.

SDSU MPH - Epi (accredited program) or UCSD MPH? I'm not sure how to decide because I went to SDSU for undergrad and loved it :/ any advice??
My, admittedly limited, advice would be to attend the accredited program. That shows employers that you have met a national standard in your education. Additionally, it allows you to take the CPH exam and earn a professional credential. Many government jobs in public health require a CEPH-accredited MPH degree. Some private sector employers might recommend it as well. It makes the basic skillset of an applicant somewhat more of a known quantity. I don't know much about either program specifically, but it is generally a good idea to go where you will find opportunities. A longer-standing program with an accreditation is more likely have that. Best of luck with your decision and congratulations on your admittances!! 😁

Los Ángeles is my favorite city in the world, but I’m also not sure about scholarships and then there’s the car and apartment etc. Boston is also amazing too and they gave me a scholarship so idk

My app to BU (Maternal and Child Health) got verified on 12/3 and I still haven't heard anything. It's nerve wracking to see people who submitted it a month after getting acceptances. Is anyone else who applied around my time or earlier experiencing no communication about decisions from BU too? It's my top 🙁
