MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

does anyone know the total cost of tuition for an MPH at GW? For some reason I am having trouble calculating it

That's based on only 18 credits a year though. Since you need 45 credits for an MPH - wouldn't tuition be a lot more because you would be taking more than 18 credits a year?
There's a spreadsheet on that webpage that allows you to input values to figure out costs! Cost per credit at GWU for graduate studies is $1,750

APPROX $42,000 a year. If you took 12 credits a semester.

Accepted at Berkeley, Global Environmental Health (or maybe it was global health and environment...I always get it mixed up!)

received an email a few minutes ago to check my portal. So grateful, my alma mater wants me back 😂

I don’t know if this is purely a coincidence but I’ll add it in: Someone mentioned today they found out Yale marked their application as incomplete because their GRE scores weren’t received. I noticed my Cal portal said the same thing, and emailed them earlier today. Didn’t get a response but I guess it doesn’t matter now, though I think it’s possible something similar happened to my application.

Hello everyone. I need some advice. I applied to several MPH epidemiology programs. So far got accepted to NYU (18k scholarship over 2 years), U of South Florida online, U of Arizona online , Mount Sinai, and Temple. Still waiting on decision from Columbia, Texas A&M online, and U of Texas/Houston online, and U of Alabama-Birmingham online, and SUNY downstate. I am leaning towards USF online Epi so far because it seems like a great deal (23k total tuition for 2 year program and it is ranked number 16 among public health schools). I want to work as an Epidemiologist in NYC but am just worried about employment. Do employers in nyc have preference in taking people from certain schools? Would a big name or high ranked school open more doors or would it not really matter for a entry level Epidemiologist? Would appreciate your honest opinion!! Thanks!

Your question consists of 2 issues: 1.
online vs on-campus programs and 2. well-known vs not-too-well-known programs in terms of job opportunities.

Personally, I have friends who are pursuing the online programs. According to them, it is absolutely not the same as on-campus programs. This is why many on-campus programs will let you switch to their online programs but not the reverse.

Ooh thanks for the info! I emailed the dept yesterday so I’ll let you know if I hear back from them. Did some skulking in last year’s thread and it looked like UC Davis released decisions around March too but I have no qualms if they’re already sending out decisions! Here’s to us! 🤞
hey! did you ever receive a response? 🙂

Thanks for the response. What is your opinion on online vs. on campus epidemiology programs in terms of employment opportunities?

I dont have the experiences with the online mph, but from friends, they said that if they dont have advanced degrees already, they would be cautious.

If you are already settled with your career and just look for advancement, then online makes sense. Otherwise, do your research well. That is what my friends said.

Hey, congrats on your acceptance! Yeah, that was me . My application was actually marked as complete, but because the GRE is optional for Yale and also because I had stated in SOPHAS to expect a score, my app was held from review. I didn’t realize it wasn’t in review until emailing them.

Hopefully you hear back from Berkeley, but it sounds like you got some good news already! 🙂

I might’ve gotten my response because of you! So thank you 🙂 my only is concern is that I might get more or less $ in light of my scores, but that’s probably out of my hands for now.

I have not! My current motto is no news is good news. How about you? 🙂
I like your motto 🙂 but nope, havent heard anything. Someone got waitlisted today so I'm hoping we find out soon!! Sorry if youre not that interested in davis hahah its my top choice and not that popular so I haven't had anyone to talk about it with so I'm really anxious about lol 😅

I totally agree with you on that concern. For me, I’m a tad worried the delay could affect my Yale decision, but I’m placing my faith in their process.

Sending you all the good vibes for your alma mater to send you some financial aid love 🙂

What portal were you looking at? Was it the Graduate Division one?

Nooo not at all! Davis is up there for me too— it’s my alma mater so the Aggie in me would would weep if they didn’t want me back

How are y’all paying for housing?
I am working full time during my last semester of undergrad right now and throughout the summer to save up for it! Some campuses have Co-Ops for graduate students as well. I'd look into it if housing costs are a concern!!

Nope, mine also had a row for transcripts and said it was missing
Interesting... mine only lists that my transcript was received even though I sent my GRE scores. Did yours just say transcript too?
Berkeley mentioned on their website to ignore the missing GRE scores thing. As long as you've sent it, they have it! 🙂

For those wondering about Berkeley:

Hoping to have enough saved up by August that I can at least go the first year without stressing over finding a job. I've been crunching some excel spreadsheets the past few days looking at conservative vs possible estimates of what I can expect to pay for rent/bills/anything over federal loans, then plugged in my expected savings to see how many months I can expect to be able to get by on that alone.

That said, I'll definitely be looking for work opportunities as soon as I move, this is more just what I've been doing to remind myself I have some breathing room while I search.

Accepted into Brown! Submitted 10/19. Under review 10/26. Sent an email to check admissions portal!
Congrats!!!! I'm in too, found out last night! Anyone know how long we might be waiting to hear back about the cash? Cuz I spoke with the admissions counselor dude and he said that they really wanted to tell us the decision and the money at the same time this cycle? Guess that didn't go as planned?

Just accepted to the Hopkins full time MPH, I applied for the Social and Behavioral Sciences concentration!!!!

There was no aid offer in the email - does anyone know if aid offers might be given later? or would they just be in the acceptance letter?
I didn’t receive any notice of aid in my acceptance either. Currently combing these threads to see if anything pops up with who to email about that since I can’t make the virtual accepted students’ days.

Any of you strongly against roommates? There’s just something about living with a complete stranger that doesn’t sit well with me.
Same lol,! This pandemic has taught us that you never know when your home will be the only space you occupy--can't imagine that being with a stranger or even worse someone I grow to dislike lol. Had a rough enough time staying with my folks lol. So I'm just gonna take the financial L and live alone in the fall 🤣

I wouldn’t say that I’m strongly against living with roommates, but I definitely want my own space for at least the first year of grad school. Moving to a new city by myself and starting an MPH program is going to be stressful enough without trying to find a stranger to co-exist with in the same space, so a peaceful home to myself is going to be crucial. I also have a dog and I don’t want to stress him out either haha. I’m hoping that I’ll make good enough friends during my first year that finding someone to live with during my second year will be easy!

A lot of people are going to have to get roommates to afford the city where they are gonna go to school.

Living in NYC is a prime example of that.

Congrats everyone on your acceptances! It's been awesome to watch them all come in over the past couple of months.

Now that a lot of us are trying to choose between programs, I wanted to offer up a spreadsheet I made to help determine expected loan burden and compare prices of programs. It's loosely based on the one that Columbia financial aid gives out, but is more comprehensive, adaptable to schools, has more automatic calculations built in for expected loans and uncovered costs, and I think it's more fun to look at 😊

Hopkins is used as a template for a quarter system and Minnesota is used for a semester system. Hopefully this helps make your decision a little easier to conceptualize!

(P.S. There might be some minor errors that leaves some cells blank. I'm sorry if so. I'm doing my best 😅)
ok found it lol bless ur beautiful soul @reformedpremed

I'm not completely against it, but I'm not excited about the prospect. Me and my SO have been living on our own for about 3 years now. He won't be with me for the first year (finishing his own program), so it might be a neccesity to not pay two full rents. I'm socially awkward and roommates are just... hard.
