MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We had an exam this morning so things will be likely delayed due to student adcoms. Just a thought.

Got the email at 12:36 eastern time

Complete september 8th.

Currently a msu senior.

I feel like people are getting acceptances really out of sequence.......anyone have thoughts on this?

Congrats!!! To everyone today.

I can honestly say I'm beginning to dislike Wednesdays especially since I've been complete since August and haven't heard anything. Gotta keep hoping, hopefully soon. Has anyone heard how many apps they've received so far? Or how many they accept each week?

Acceptances don't gain much other than the advantage of rolling.

If your numbers don't meet a certain desired level, you could be the first to submit and not hear anything until May.

:/ my numbers definitely exceed the "desired levels" for gpa, mcat, and volunteering that people were talking about

I read somewhere that applications are ranked based on some algorithm and only the top 20% of applications are reviewed each Wednesday. Presumably your application will only be reviewed when you fall into the top 20% of the current applicant pool, which somewhat undermines the apply early motif (seeing as how someone with excellent stats that applies late will be reviewed before someone who applies early with poorer stats). Anyhow, this likely explains why acceptances are being given out of sequences.

it's still really early in the cycle, i wouldn't worry too much.

ha it just makes me nervous that people who were complete after me have heard stuff! ahhhh!

MSU waits until the end of the cycle to reject people, right?

i understand that you're nervous. it's the nature of the applying-to-medical-school beast. as far as them waiting to send out rejections, i've also heard they wait until the end to send out rejections. so keep in mind that you're always in running. where else did you apply?

CCOM and a handful of MD schools, but MSUCOM was one of my faves.

Anybody know overall how many acceptances went out last year? I mean after all the people declined and new acceptances were sent out..

Also, I wonder if all the Canadian acceptances coming out early are due to the Canadian initiative thing...like they are filling up their dedicated 20-25 spots quickly..hmm.

One last thing..when do they start wait-listing people?

According to US Grads:

3650 applicants
472 interviewed (I guess they still interview a large number of applicants)
435 accepted
318 enrolled

Hey guys,
I just submitted my application yesterday for MSUCOM. Anyone know how long it takes to get secondaries out?

Congrats to those who were accepted today. We'll get em next week, SisterDisco08. Cheers.

Accepted!!!!!! today at 12:36pm (Eastern time)

complete on 9/12
3.39 sGPA
3.53 cGPA
28P
1200+ volunteer
3200+ working hours
4000+ extracurricular hours

ps this was my third year applying to medical school (graduated from undergrad in may 2010). DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED AND DO NOT SETTLE.

MSU DO Class of 2016!!

Complete on September 19th.....now to play the waiting game! :xf:

472 interviewed (I guess they still interview a large number of applicants)
435 accepted
318 enrolled

Numbers were around these:
3887 applications, ~1000 of those were in-state. Though unpublished, amount interviewed is definitely nowhere near 472, it's a very low number and usually for non-trads.
It took around 450 offers to fill 316 seats (270 IS, 46 OOS). The class has always been around 15% OOS.

Class was Filled in Feb, IIRC DMC filled much earlier.

When do we find out what campus we will be at?

Anyone know if there is an open house in East Lansing? I got sent a thing about the ones in SE Michigan which is November 11th...just curious to see EL as well.

Congrats to all the recent acceptances and good luck to everyone else! I'm in my first year and loving it! They have so much planned for your class - any anxiety you're feeling will be totally worth it once you get here. Also, don't stress out too much at this point - I was complete in September, waitlisted in January, and accepted a month before orientation. There's always hope!

"For the 2011-12 application year we are changing the methodology we use to make student site assignments. If you receive and accept an offer of admission, you will be asked to tell us your preferred site location. Actual assignment of sites will begin in January or February and continue through late May. You will be informed of your site assignment by email.

MSUCOM does not guarantee that any student will be assigned to her/his preferred site."

That sucks big time... I guess I'm going to have to put down a deposit for my second choice school just in case I am not placed in East Lansing
