so quick q ... found out i got into ucsd today (super excited!!) but I have Mt. Sinai interview scheudled for dec 19th ....

i know ucsd is ranked higher ... but rankings arent everything you know ... do u think i shoudl still go to my interview ... i mean ... id love a hcance to live in NYC, but do you think ucsd is a way better school than mt. sinai??? any input would be appreciated

Do you anticipate getting need-based aid at Sinai? I'm assuming you're in-state at UCSD.

If not, ask yourself what Mt. Sinai would have to offer over UCSD to justify the cost. If it sounds possible, go check them out.

I interviewed at a couple of East Coast programs after getting a UCSD acceptance even though I was pretty sure I wouldn't go. It was probably worth the perspective.

Ooh, tough call. I kinda fell in love with Mt. Sinai when I went there. UCSD was ok, but the students just didn't seem as happy as the Sinai students and I thought that living in NYC would be an amazing way to spend four years of med school (especially in that super nice subsidized student housing). All other things being equal, I'd choose Sinai in a heartbeat. But of course, all other things are not equal. The problem is that when you get your financial aid offers, you'll probably find that Sinai will end up costing you almost twice as much as UCSD. As great as it is, it's hard to justify the expense when you can go to your state school. If I were you, I'd definitely go and check it out. Enjoy NYC for a couple of days if you have the time and see what kind of impression the school makes on you.

i chose UCSD over Sinai and I love it here. San Diego is such a cool place to live in. I think you'll be happy anywhere you go. btw, I think our first year class is awesome!

Mt. Sinai if you like NY a lot. SD otherwise.
