I am considering going to MUA next year and would like to know from others of what their reputation seems to be. I know they are a relatively new school in the caribbean and they haven't really made their mark yet...except being affiliated with SABA. Also, my main goal in becoming a physician is to practice internal medicine. Would I be able to get into a above average residency coming from a caribbean school like MUA. Any comments or concerns about the school would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

It was started up by the original founders of St. Matthew's after a colorful battle with the St. Matthew's Board of Directors that led to the departure of the founders.

If I were in your shoes (in hindsight of course) and considering the Caribbean option for medicine I would try St. George, Ross, AUC, Saba, and St. Matthew's first before MUA.

As far as the education is concerned, (as with all carib schools) you'll be provided the material, its what you as a student do with it that matters most.

Lastly, if you have certain states in mind for future residence/practice, then make sure your school choice (MUA in this case) will not interfere with licensure.

Good Luck!

you should consider the european schools before you start thinking caribbean schools. They have a long history, solid faculties, and many many graduates in the USA. Why would you want to go to a little island with a lot of mosquitos, live in 3rd world conditions, and deal with quasilegitimate medical schools, battling the state medical boards for their recognition, and getting labelled with the Caribbean graduate stigma, when you could get a better education, a solid educational pedigree, and save a bundle on some of the schools in europe..
I could keep going, but it makes absolutely no sense that people are still thinking caribbean schools, when eastern europe is offering many solid options, and is opening their doors for the first time..
I know, I know, I've heard all the excuses...You'd have to learn the language in eastern europe.. the professors are tough ... yada .. yaadaa.. yaaaddaa
...all these are absolutely not true. These are rumors that were begun by the aaimg.com people. We now know how legitimate they are...

if you want a serious education, you've got to make the right choices. No sense complaining a couple of years later, that you cant pass the boards...
It all starts with the seriousness of your pursuit. So if you're serious about your pursuit, look into charles in Prague..Neil.C an sdn member, can tell you a lot. Best Czech school
or debrecen medical university in hungary... dr.cuts can enlighten you on this one. one of the best schools
semmelweis university in hungary... dr.cuts again. very very good & tough school
medical university lodz in poland. good school, US Clinical program, very new.
or szeged in hungary...decent hungarian school working on us clinical program.
you've got to realize that serious schools will educate you well enough to breeze through the boards.
In regard to MUA....
when you go to places like mua, you will realize that it is a terrible terrible mistake. the dean, president, ceo, whatever he wants to call himself... Dr(not MD) F, has the reputation of being a ruthless guy, so beware, and never say you werent warned...

last year, 2 of this school's students were teaching 2 of the basic sciences courses at the same time they were taking first year courses! dont believe me. Ask them who was teaching Biochem and Microbiology at MUA, last year.....
Both these "teachers" are now 2nd year transfer students in 2 medical schools in europe. Have I said enough? i hope I've made my point. Look very hard, before you settle for a third rate school that has a pathetic USMLE pass rate and a very high "transfer out because we hate this school" rate.
