I'm curious if anyone here has any current information as to when the new multi year retention bonus for specialists will be rolled out. I've been hearing a lot of chatter lately from higher ups about there being an issue with many of our O6s leaving soon, and a lack of officers willing to take on their command responsibilities. Given the fact that these positions are often offered to more senior DC officers with specialty training that makes them more valuable outside of the army, wouldn't it be wise to offer these officers better incentives to stay? Especially considering that these responsibilities ultimately translate to more admin and less clinic time. It seems like we have no trouble getting people in the army, but we still need to figure out better ways to keep them. Unless we want the dental corps run by nurses & MSC officers.

Please. No. Just no. :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Quite frankly, NCs and MSCs are better administrators than most MCs or DCs.

And the DOD Instruction for the new specialty multi-year retention bonuses was just signed. The services should be coming out with their own guidance this FY for implementation potentially in FY17.

Yeah, I'd honestly take an ambitious MSC officer or nurse with a better mind for admin over an unwilling dentist. Clinics need good leadership too

I think a big part of it is that MSC and NC are very competitive whereas most DCs/MCs make O5 easily in comparison.
