Multiple Deposits to DO schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for putting that together JRjcu! That's pretty comprehensive.
It's amazing the things you can do when you don't want to do actual work.;)

Thanks for the time it took to do the list? How come for MD's our background check is free but not for DO?

I'll admit that I've been accepted to an allo school, but do osteos do financial aid differently?

One of the biggest reasons people hold multiple (allo) acceptances is to wait for financial aid packages to come in. If someone offers me a free ride, I don't care if it is my 1st choice or my Nth, I'm going there.

I have never heard of full rides being offered by DO schools (aside from military HPSP programs). It seems like there are some need based scholarships, but as I understand it, they aren't that substantial. I wouldn't expect very many sweet deals to attract students.

The only full rides I've heard of involve a commitment to primary care or a commitment to serving in underserved areas (rural or urban). I believe they're national programs, thus, available at any school. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

That said, if you join these programs and later opt out, the loan for your tuition will be transferred to you and it will have a very high interest rate.

EDIT: Off topic now, but Scrubs might get canceled. Ohmahgawd.

I was just exaggerating to make a point. Even if a school ONLY gave me $10,000 (lol) I would still go there over a different school that didn't.

It would be premature to drop any acceptances to schools you can imagine attending before financial aid goes through.

Just FYI, the school I'm attending offers 25k x 4 year scholarships to a few students who meet very specific criteria, with no payback required.

I agree with what seems to be the majority of posts on the subject. I feel your pain when it comes to being waitlisted, as I currently am for my no.1....but I can't very well give up an acceptance at a different school to free up a spot without having any other spot secured for myself next year. Hopefully the waitlists will start moving soon though, and we can breathe easy again! (what's that feel like?)

ATSU-SOMA's 2nd deposit is due May 1st as $1000...just an fyi that this posting may not be correct but it might depend on when you got accepted? I'm not sure but this is what the school tells me...

Sorry, everything may not be exactly right, I just copied what the CIB said.

I'm trying not to be one of the bad guys. I got word my deposit was received yesterday so I withdrew my acceptances from the other two schools I was considering (LECOM and NYCOM). I hope somebody who really wants to go to these schools gets my spot.

For CCOM, the "partially-refundable" part is $100 of the $1000 deposit. The school was also unwilling to extend my deadline to reply, even though I had less than two weeks notice of my acceptance. :( No installment plans either.

I'm not a fan of these huge deposits. I'm high on the waitlist at another school that I'm interested in, and haven't been able to get all the information I need to make an informed decision, especially in such a short time. I'm trying to convince myself to see this as a $1000 insurance policy, but it still feels a little gross and unethical. As a reapplicant I've already spent tons of cash on this process - what's a little more, I suppose?

Considering I'm still waiting to hear about financial aid from NYCOM, I imagine the people with multiple acceptances are in the same boat.

You'd have to be stupid to not wait until you find out which school will, essentially, be giving you "the best deal" - I know that would really change my decision in terms of what school to attend/withdraw from.
