MWU-CPG c/o 2016

Hi, i understand your a second year student at the pharmacy college. I was just curious, what book did you use for the class "Pcol 835A - Immunology and Hematology?"

I was accepted to the college of pharmacy and was interested in the subject/getting a hard start. I was hoping you direct me towards the book you used so that I could be studying the right material 🙂

Thank you!

I think you might be looking at the wrong course numbers. Nonetheless, It is very rare that we actually use the book to study...we go 90% off of their powerpoint slides. I wouldn't worry too much about studying immunology just yet since it's in your fourth quarter. Start by reviewing physiology and biochem since that will be the first classes you have to conquer =P

Is mwu cpg a good 3 year program? Compared to like uop or mcphs, lecom etc

Not being biased or anything at allll.....BUT...i genuinely think our school is incredible. We have an amazing support system here where everyone wants to help you. Open door policies, and extremely high NAPLEX pass rates (I believe 97-98% passing). I hear a lot of people are depressed at UOP...I'm not sure why. Our curriculum here is taught in a very cohesive and easy to understand manner, which is VERY helpful when it comes to memorizing drugs, mechanisms, etc.

Keep your chin up! Midwestern's Dean of Pharmacy said in a pre-pharmacy meeting at a local community college that 2/3 of the alternative list gets accepted because of the way things work out. Many students put down multiple down payments and then go somewhere else and they call the next person on the list. Last year I was on the alternative list, and lost all hope. They called me April 20th and told me I was accepted. Unfortunately I had to decline due to medical problems, but even then they were amazing. I was granted a deferment and I start this June 2013, so I will be there with all of you that are accepted (and I didn't have to reapply). 🙂

That's awesome, I hope I can get in as well...

When does class start for this school? Is it like first week of June?

Just got my interview invite. Good luck to everyone.

How long after submitting the supplemental app did everyone wait for an interview invite?

Like two days for me

Hey Everyone!

I was one of your student ambassadors on Friday, the 28th. I you have an accepted student checklist on your MWU portal, that means you have been accepted. Congrats!

Hi! I'm assuming you're a student at MWU, but I saw you were also accepted to the UofA. Why did you choose MWU rather than UofA?

My suggestion to those who have been accepted. One of you folks should step up and create a Midwestern CPG Class of 2016 group so you can all start getting to know one another! 😀

This group is definitly not as chatty as the group was last year! I would be willing to set-up the group, but do I just do it in the "Class Threads" section, or is there a way to set-up an actual group?

Also, can you answer a quick question? As far as the schedule, since the school is year round, do you get any breaks? Like right now during the holiday season are you in class or how much time off do they give you? Thanks!

You get a week off or so in between quarters and extra time for holidays. For instance, around thanksgiving I got the usual week off in between quarters and an extra week for thanksgiving. I am currently in my two week break for xmas and New Years. You get like 4 or 5 weeks off in the summer of second year, and various other ones. Definitely more than enough to recharge from a lot of studying and testing throughout the year.

I got the supplemental app a week or so ago but I haven't had the chance to submit it yet. Today I received an email that my supplemental fee and application were being waived and I was invited for an interview. I live in Chicago and am already planning to travel to Wisconsin and Philly for interviews. For those of you that have already interviewed at Glendale, did you like it/is it worth the cost of travel?? I'm very torn, I want the chance to see as many schools as I can but I've received more interviews than I expected and it's starting to get quite expensive. Advice anyone? 😕

Midwestern is a good school and you can complete your PharmD within 3 years. This makes you more competitive and you can start your career early. But in the end, it's really up to you, I would weigh in your chances of getting into the schools, also which schools you really like.

My interview at Midwestern is on Jan 14, and this thread has calmed my nerves a little. One quick question do they direct specific questions to each person in the group or do they just a general question and have everyone answer the question?
Also since i read that this is a closed file interview, that means there wont be any specific questions from my application correct? (ok more than one question but still thanks)

Anybody else have their interview on this day?

They usually have a general question and then choose a person to start it. They try and alternate it so one person doesn't go first or last all the time. They can direct you a specific question if something comes up or they feel they want to go more in depth.

Also that is correct regarding no questions from your application.

I haven't gotten an email about interviewing but I can select dates? Anybody else have this?

yeah that happens, the portal updates quicker than they can send out notifications. I would immediately sign up cause spots do fill up quickly!

Did they contact you, or did it become available under interview scheduling on the website?

They sent an email to me informing me of the interview with a link back to their secondary website where you schedule it. I haven't even sent in my secondary for the chicago campus yet because I'm trying to prepare for this interview... Anyone going on the January 18?

I had my Interview in Dec.. There were 3 faculty that interviewed 3 applicants. It was pretty low stress and the questions were general in nature.. "Important qualities of pharmacist", "Explain importance of communication and when you faced a challenging situation with it" , "Describe a time you went above and beyond" all of the questions were like that. We were asked a total of 6 questions and we alternated on the order in which we answered. And they dont know anything about you.. they jsut ask questions and take notes about you on their laptops

I just finished up my interview this morning... I checked the portal about 30 minutes ago and I now have a "post-accepted" column on the left-hand side. When I click on checklist and then try to click complete form for matriculation it says "Your information is currently being processed. Please check back tomorrow."

Does it show up like this after the interview for everyone or does this mean I've been accepted? Very, very hopeful its the latter.

They will ask you for money if you've actually been accepted 😀 Hang in there!

Congrats on all the acceptances! I just submitted my supplemental app yesterday. Does anyone know how long it takes to get an interview invite? Also, do you receive the invite through email or on the portal? I'm a little worried because I submitted my app pretty late compared to everyone else. I looks like some of you saw your interview dates on the portal..how long after submitting your supplemental app did it show up? I really want to go to this school, it's definitely my first choice. Well good luck to everyone waiting on their acceptances!

I submitted my app on 12-17 and got an email 12-19 to schedule an interview. I picked the earliest date available at the time, which was yesterday. They are pretty fast compared to other schools I've been applying to, 3 hours after my interview yesterday they update my portal to accepted.

Hi! Were you able to create the class thread for the class of 2016? I may start a facebook group page for the class of 2016 if enough people are interested.

I'd be interested, let me know if you decide to set it up.

Im interested as well.. let me know if you create a forum or site

PS. For those of you who are set on going to MWU, if you would like to move to San Lagos (apts right across the street) and would like to get a little bit of money back, just message me and I can give you my name as a reference. I get an inscentive for bringing people to the complex and I'm more than willing to give half of it away 😎

Where are you staying.. what kind of food do you like? there are a lot of good places to eat around arrowhead mall, which is only a few miles from the school.

I'm at the school now. Anywhere around? Leaving in a few hours.

Wow, I am so surprised at how fast they make their decisions. I guess it is still a bit early in the interview cycle? since they apps deadline is in feb. Congrats to everyone who is accepted! keep ur hopes up everyone whos on the waitlist! and be calm everyone who is waiting or interviewing soon. AZ Midwestern people are so nice, interview was not intimidating, great people. Dress warm though, last friday was unexpectedly very very cold.

its supposed to be back up to normal temps later this week.. I hope anyways.. I'm freezing!

Well i felt the interview went well, was not stressful at all, so if someone has one coming up shouldnt be to worried about it, just prepare. And it was cold yesterday but not as bad as where my layover was, Salt Lake City 9 degrees didnt know it went down that low lol.

That's good to hear that it wasn't stressful. Good luck with acceptance. I'm prepping for it right now lol. Gonna fly in on the 17.
