I just got an interview invite today for December 11 or 12!

Do you guys think there's a better chance if I get the interview on the earlier date? haha
I have class Mondays and I don't want to rush it by leaving to Arizona Monday night for the interview the next morning at 7:45

I think they will review the interviewees from Dec 11 and Dec 12 at one committee meeting (they meet every other Friday), so I think it shouldn't matter very much whether you choose the 11th or 12th. I will say that I interviewed on Oct 29 (to avoid missing too much work) and had to wait until Nov 9 to know whether I was accepted. Meanwhile people who interviewed on Oct 26 (and on Nov 9!) found out the next day because their interview day happened to be the day they reviewed applicants from the past 2 weeks.

I interviewed yesterday. I checked the portal at around 4pm and already had an acceptance offer! Yay!

I will be your ambassador on the 12th I believe. Congrats to everybody who got in! =)

I know the Glendale campus is a 3-year program and I have heard friends say it's very challenging. However, when I talked to some of the pharmacy students during my interview, one of the girls said that almost every pharmacy student is working. How do you have time to study and work for a 3-yr program?

Also, I don't mean to pose a stupid or negative question but I'd like to know... If a student fails a class during the quarter, what would happen? Would it be possible to retake it the next qtr, or how does that work? I forgot to ask these questions when I was on campus. I was too focused on the interview. But thank you for any comments/advice.

I think they will work 1 day a week or 1 day every other week. That what i will do

About 1/3rd of the class works (including me). Depending on where you work, you can work anywhere from 4 hours a week up to 20. The schedules for work are very flexible as all the pharmacists know school comes first. It is not an easy school but it is also not impossible. Everyone is very supportive here and is willing to help in any way possible in order for you to succeed.

If you fail a class you will have to go in front of the faculty board. You basically have to plead your case and worst case is that you will get held back a year. If you fail two classes though I believe they kick you out of the school (don't quote me on that though). It's all very much on a case by case basis because everybody has different problems. Some are excusable, others may not be.

Hope this helped!

Thank you. I also have another question. The curriculum is pretty much set, right? You can't really choose which classes you want to take, when. You just have to follow the schedule for all 3 yrs?

Also, last question. A P2 student told me it is vital to have a car at Midwestern. Is that necessary as a first yr student? Or should I wait until my 2nd yr to get a car? I appreciate any advice anyone may give. Thank you.

I second the question about the car. How bad is public transportation in Glendale? I would probably live on campus, but I'm wondering about grocery shopping, etc.

Hey everyone! I just interviewed yesterday on the 12th. I received an email about their financial aid, does everyone get this after their interview? I am so nervous for the results! Can't wait for Friday to come!

I have a question for any current students. Since it is a three year program and you do not have as many breaks compared to a four year program, do you feel that you have enough time to unwind after a quarter?

For me personally I feel as if I would be so burned out after a quarter that I would prefer a longer break, but I wanted to get some of your opinions.

I believe everyone gets the email about the financial aid after the interview. I can't wait for for the results either! Good luck for all of us! :xf:

I interviewed on Friday, November 9th.........still haven't heard anything......is that normal? I see that some have already been accepted.....Congrats to those that did!!! What is the normal waiting time to find out if you have been accepted or not?

@CMH, why don't you just call and ask the admission counselor if they have made a decision on your file? I plan on doing so if I don't hear anything on Friday.

@ Kenny and CMH, how did you guys think your interview went? I felt I was nervous, which I start stuttering on some of the questions that I wasn't prepared for. I communicate perfectly on a regular day basis but since it was a pharmacy school interview, it meant so much to me that...my nerves got the best of me. I hope we can all get in and be classmates! Is this your first choice? It went from my 2nd to my 1st choice after the interview day.

I was also at that interview, when I checked my portal that afternoon in my hotel room I saw that I was accepted.

Yes, curriculum is set in stone until your second year where you are then allowed to choose electives. A car is not necessarily vital especially if you live across the street from school. However, during your third or fourth quarter, one of the classes you have to take require site visits which can be relatively far (30-40 minute drive). You can probably get away with carpooling with a classmate though. The bus system is pretty pathetic here, so I wouldnt rely too much on it. Hope that helps.

Also, to answer the question on vacations. You definitely have enough time to unwind in my opinion. Thanksgiving = 2 weeks, Christmas = 1-2 weeks, you sometimes get a week in between quarters, and when you go on rotations you can also get 3-4 weeks off depending on whether it is an IPPE or an APPE rotation. Also, all standard holidays you get off as well. It's definitely manageable.

Check your portal guys! I just checked and found out I was accepted! I hope to hear good news from you guys 🙂! Look forward to being classmates with everyone on this thread! YAY!!!!

I interviewed on Monday and still haven't heard anything. I'm starting to get a little nervous. :scared:

Mine doesn't say anything either and I interviewed on nov 12th also. I called this morning to ask if we would hear something today and she said the admissions committee are meeting today and to check late this afternoon. I'm dying from the anticipation :scared:

For those who are accepted, around what time did the adcom post their decisions on my portal?

Hey you guys! I heard that some of the admission committee met yesterday and they will continue today again! So don't lose hope if you haven't heard anything yet! Praying for all of you!

I interviewed on Nov 12th too and haven't heard back yet. Fingers crossed...

Congrats, Pharm072011 and others who got accepted so far!!

My interview was last week on Nov. 9. I guess I did okay, but I could have done a lot better 🙁 It was my first group interview ever, so I felt a little intimidated and my voice was kinda shaky. The campus was so beautiful! I really love it. Unfortunately, this is my second choice, but we'll see 😉

I haven't heard anything from them yet. I've been checking the portal every day since last week. And I don't want to go check my mailbox yet... I just don't want to hear bad news. I guess we have to wait a little longer.

I just checked my portal and was accepted!

Interviewed 12th Nov

Pcat: Composite 87
GPA: 3.2

Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to all who have been accepted, and good luck for those waiting! :luck:

To the questions about cars: Public transportation is not good in Glendale. I know a bus runs by school, but I have no idea on the frequency or the cut-off. www.valleymetro.org is the website for our transit. While I wouldn't say MWU is in the boonies, it is not in the heart of a college district or anything.

To the question about jobs: I do know some of the class works as P1s, but nearly everyone I've talked to has cut back their hours. Many are doing 1-2 times a month. As I understand, working is much more manageable during P2 than P1. I don't work currently (I have pretty serious circumstances preventing) but I had planned to. There are positions at local pharmacy chains set up for pharmacy interns to work once a month I've heard about from folks who were techs at these companies before school. I think the trick is to make sure you don't let work get in the way of school - I have heard of some companies pushing folks to work more hours than originally agreed at the start of the quarter, but I think it's the exception (and the local store involved) rather than the rule.

To the question about vacations: I actually worked 40 hours a week & went to school prior to coming to pharma school. I had 23 vacation days a year, plus bank holidays. I get more time off during this curriculum than I did there (although it's not on my schedule - gosh I miss sick days). The biggest difference is that a 4 year program would have summer off, which (as I understand) a lot of people end up using for internship experiences. However, there are a lot of up sides to having quarters (10 weeks) and being out after 3 years.

I heard that quite a handful of students heard they got accepted today from 11/12 interview. My portal still hasn't changed, that can't be good news 🙁 should i call them ask them about it? are the admissions office open tomorrow on a saturday?

I just got my interview email tonight. I have really basic questions because I haven't done an interview in a long time. Do all the guys wear a suit and tie. Also I am planning on a motel close to the campus. How are the shuttles on getting you there so early in the morning? Should I go with a cab. Do they ask a lot of personal questions looking at your pharmcas application and supplemental or is it more general questions about why you chose pharmacy or why you chose the school?

Yes you do wear a suit and tie. its a closed interview so they ask more general questions. when I went I stayed at the drury inn, I had a great experience there and they would take you to the school. I highly recommend that hotel. Don't be nervous, everyone is extremely nice and welcoming.

Interviewing 12/12/12! 😀 I'm coming in the day before and I'm thinking of checking out the area. Are there any cool/interesting places to visit while I'm there?

I interviewed on the 12th as well and have not heard anything back yet 🙁

I have been looking at the questions on interview feedback. How long should your answers be?
Is it quick answers or do you have a chance to explain. If you give quick one sentence answers will it be really awkward.

I didn't wear a suit. I am female, though. I dressed professionally but no jacket or anything. Be yourself, think of scenarios in which you handled different challenges (in case they ask). No need to rehearse, just be honest and engaged. Good luck!

In order to get an interview do they actually look into your application or do they just see
your pcat numbers and GPA calculations. I got the interview but I'm wondering even with a good interview if my chances are still bad because my application overall has a lot of problems.

Got accepted 😀 My stress level definitely dropped like an egg

They initially do look at all of your statistics, but once you receive an interview invitation, you have a foot in the door in my opinion. I did not have very good statistics, but it seems like they are very reasonable people. If they see that you want to do pharmacy for the right reasons, they may still take you. There have been people that have been accepted with below average scores and zero pharmacy experience. I'd definitely celebrate the chance 😀

Got my acceptance last week!

GPA: 3.5
Compostite: 91

Does anyone know of a link to the Facebook page for the accepted c/o 2016?

Has anyone tried to apply for on-campus housing? On my portal, it states that "There are no further housing periods that you can apply for"? Does this mean that it's all fill up and I can't even get on the waiting list? =/

Hello everyone! Congratulations to everyone who got interviews!! I am also applying to Widwestern for class of 2017, but I have not submitted my supplemental yet 🙁 Am I really late??? I plan on submitting it next week.

Haha no you're are not late. I submitted my application late october, and it's still processing. I would just have the supplemental to work on, which isn't so bad.

But Midwestern accepts around 400 applicants, because a lot of applicants chose to go somewhere else. I believe last year's class was around 152 students?

Does anyone know about how many total applications they received last year?

I believe statistics should be online somewhere but you have to dig for it. Either that, or ask someone who interviewed already, they should have the stats. 😀

Hey there, I have a question. Do you have to buy book for your first year?

Yes, you do have to buy SOME books your first year. There are some that are mandatory that you will be using the entire first year and others that the teachers say are mandatory that aren't really mandatory. Usually you just ask your upperclassmen and they will be more than happy to let you know. 😀

On the other hand, the curriculum does change a little bit from year to year and I believe some teachers that didn't require books before do now. I'd hold off buying all but the ones that teachers say to buy until they actually assign you something out of them 😛

Hope that helps!

I second this question. I'm trying to apply for on campus housing as well. Do any MWU pharm students have any suggestions/comments about on campus housing or recommendations? Greatly appreciate it 🙂

Anyone interview on 11/11 that got in? I was one of your ambassadors. I must also say that eveyone is quite panicky. :scared:

I got my interview date! It's Dec 12th, wednesday morning! I look forward to meeting some of you! 🙂

For those who are currently students/got accepted, where did you go for undergrad?

Side note: I used to live in Glendale, and I feel as if you'd need a car for that area. From what I remember it's in the middle of suburbia and there isn't much you can do, unless you live in those apartments right near the school. Then again, I haven't been there for about 5 years. If you're concerned about the costs, I heard there is much cheaper housing farther away from Midwestern

how's the interview's atmosphere? Intense or relaxed? I will be in Glendale next week so can someone share their opinion?
