I got my score a few days ago and it is 91. My raw scores are the following:

Anatomy: 84
Bio/Phys: 77
Micro/Path: 82
DA: 87

I studied firstaid NBDE part 1 and the deck. I did 96, 98, 2000, and 2004 released old exams and scored (raw) right around what I got for the real exam except the biochem/physio which I usually scored above 80. I am a bit disappointed by the bio/physio section.

I can share my experience with you SDN members. I know how you are feeling if you are preparing for NBDE part 1. I will try my best to answer your questions. Good luck to all of you.

congrats jpark9 on your score.
i also got my nbde score and iam worried about bench exam..
can you please guide, how will you prepare for your bench exam and what dental school will you prefer?

Thank you smilebrite. The old exams are sent.

I am sure everyone has different method of studying and I am not going to say mine is the best. But this is what got me my 91.

I studied 5 weeks for the exam. I studied 6 days a week and took one day off every week.

I started with doing one old exam which I think was 1998. I obviously didn't get a good score (about 265 raw score) but wanted to know where about I stand. I did one old exam every week to see my progress.

1st and 2nd week (a little bit into 3rd week): I studied the Firstaid NBDE part 1 thoroughly with taking my own notes on the side to review later. It will take some dedication to finish this book in two weeks.

3rd and 4th week: I studied the dental deck. I initally started with the deck but I switched my gear to firstaid because the information in the dental deck is not organized in a certain order, but it rather jumps from one concept to another randomly. So I used the deck as a review.

While I was studying the firstaid and the dental deck, I did 30 to 40 Kaplan q bank questions at the end of each day. It only took me about an hour to do them and review them.

5th week: do as many questions as possible and refer to your notes, wikipedia, firstaid, and dental deck to review. Take the last day off and recharge yourself for the exam.

Good luck!

I had the Kaplan questions from my school, but you can purchase them on kaplan.com. They have one month subscription for only about $100. The kaplan questions are more detailed than the real NBDE questions but they will certainly reinforce your knowledge. Good luck.

dear jpark9..congratulations on your score and the wedding 🙂....would like to ask you if ethics is part of NBDE1 ?

jpark....nothing against you.....but i would like to warn other people writing on this thread with the hope of getting few exam papers.....probably this thread is read by a lot other people...so if you are the kind who doesnt mind some extra emails....trying to sell nbde stuff it is okay....but otherwise it might not be advisable to post your email id online.....just a thought...!!!

Hi anniestar,

I didn't study kaplan review notes so I have no idea where about you stand. And it might be true that the firstaid has much of overlapping information with the deck. However, the main reason I recommended firstaid is because i liked the way the book is organized. It walks you through on the nice path to start studying for the board. If you are that far down the road, it may not be as helpful as if you were just starting. Good luck.

Thanks pb2007,

I studied firstaid NBDE and refer to my classnotes and wikipedia for further detail. I really liked the way the firstaid organized that section. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi,
JPark9 thanks for your help. I received all your reading materials. I am sure this will help to me to get a good score.🙂 Also there is another question that I would like to asked you. I am an international student and in order to get into a dental school what would be a good score that I need to get?, and is it true from next year 2010 NBDE part-I and II will be combined and students who will be taking exam next year will need to take part-I and II together...???? 😕

Once again Thanks for your help....!!!!

Veesal

hi
i just want to ask u 1 thing.why u guys post sumthing for which u r not sure?why u wanna make other people tense....without any reason?before saying anything just check ada site....how u know part1 n 2 will be combined cos there is no such information on the ada site?u know what people like u distract others that too without any reason........it was ridiculous............😡

Congrats,

I live in Boston, MA... I am trying to study for the part 1, but I find that is very hard to do it by myself..I feel that is a lot of material and I don't even know how to start. I was wondering if you know any preparation courses, I know kaplan has some video courses but I don't know if it is good or not...

Thank you 🙂

I feel that if you have the motivation and the time u need not waste your time and money going to any centres u can get the material and prepare your for yourself. most of my friends friends who took the kaplan course did not feel that they spent their time and money wisely.

hey there are many mistakes in dental decks 2009-10 please review them before studyinggggggg

hi i am new to the forum and was looking for books to prepare for nbde 1. most of the students said dental decks and question bank is suffice for scoring decent marks..
plz do advise as to where can i get authentic books coz i have been searching the net and i end up getting confused at the end of the day..
plz advise

As far as dental decks is concerned you can find the used ones sold on ebay. If you have a group of five you can purchase them from the dental decks corporation at a good price. Regarding released exams you can get them from asda web site or try ebay for used once. If you are looking just at reffering them they are availabe at the dental school libraries. Goo luck with your preparation.

i am new to this nbde preparation
could u plz give me some info regarding the preparation
u would be gratefull if u could helpfull me from this out

hi jpark,
was wondering if u cud please send me the link for the old question papers that u looked through?

hi,
I have a quick question for you. I was wondering where you got the 96, 98, 2000, and 2004 released old exams? Are they published materials or online? Are first aid NBDE part I and desks enough for good score? Please let me know.
