In their supplemental application, NCSU requests contact information on any doctor you've worked for that did not provide a LOR. I worked at some of these clinics almost 10 years ago. Are they really going to contact them? Generally, it's considered courteous to request permission or at least give a heads up to someone that will be contacted on your behalf. Do I need to hunt down phone numbers and make the "heads-up" call to these doctors? Or should I not even worry about it? I didn't leave anywhere on bad terms. Mostly worried that NCSU will call and the clinic won't even remember me!

That's tough since you worked there so long ago. I would definitely let them know before you list their contact info, but if it's been forever, you could explain why you don't want them contacted (that's what I did for a rescue group for which I worked a few vaccination clinics and where none of the vets with whom I worked were still affiliated with the organization).

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I worry that by checking "don't contact" it will raise some eyebrows. I guess explaining it would help, but still, I wonder.

Just so you know, I just called their office, and listing another reference isn't required. They just want to be able to verify experience, so if you have experience with a vet that you are still in touch with, and you want to give the number to them to verify your experience, then you can put the information.

Really?? I will definitely call them first thing in the morning. If it isn't required and won't decrease the number of hours of experience, that is by far the easiest solution. Thank you!
