Hello everyone,

I am a D.O. student in the 4th year. I want to know what are some of the top/great IM D.O. programs. Although searching through different threads, I did find some but it's either too old or not comprehensive list. I will appreciate if someone can post programs where they have rotated or have heard good things about a program. Preferable in the midwest area (originally from IL; I have rotated through IL progs already); others states are fine too. I don't mind moving.

I would also like to know what are some of the MD programs that will take me with this stats.

Thanks and appreciated.

I also want to add my stats here. COMLEX I 524; COMLEX 2 - 438; USMLE I - 197.
I am still deciding if I should take USMLE 2 or not.

I'm not so sure about the comlex scores, but that is not a good USMLE score. it doesn't matter now whether or not you take step 2 ck since its already application season.

you will still get some spots, but being sub200 will prevent you from getting looks at a lot of IM programs. it will mostly be community programs for the MD spots. as far as DO programs, I think I know of one in MI. why not ask your school though? I'm sure they have an advisor there for you.

From what I've heard, some of the better DO and/or dual accredited IM programs are as follows:

UMDNJ/Kennedy
Geisinger
Sparrow
Doctors
Advocate Lutheran
Henry Ford (possibly)

Haven't heard much about the rest. Matching well on the allo side with 197 could be tough, though. Good luck.

Thanks for replying.

So does that mean I should not even try for MD progs? I'm not looking for any top competitive progs. I am looking for community progs with fellowships or places where residents have open doors to fellowships placement.

One more question: do I have to release my usmle score, or can I just use comlex score for allo progs?

Thanks for viewing this post and replying.

In the Northeast, UMDNJ, SUNY Downstate, Northshore-LIJ, Hershey Penn State, and Temple are DO friendly.

Not sure what you're deciding about with your COMLEX 2 and USMLE step 1 scores, as they are not highly competitive. You need to take Step 2, and you need to score higher than on Step 1 to increase your competitiveness.

If you're thinking about fellowship, you need to go to the best university program that you can get into. That will really widen not only your research opportunities, but will broaden your options when you apply to other programs for fellowship. If you go to a community residency program, often those fellowships will have only 1-2 spots with more applicants from that home program than spots.
