Hello, I am having trouble finalizing my school list. I have stats for some high tier schools but I think my ECs are pretty average (maybe not?).
My stats:
cGPA: 3.82
sGPA: 3.82
MCAT: 519 (132/128/128/131)
Shadowing: 6 hours (gynecological oncology) 26 hours (ortho, neuro, general surgery), 50 hours (radiology)
Clinical: 150 hours cancer center, 120 hours cardiac unit (all volunteering)
Non-clinical: 50 hours volunteering at after school program, 40 hours volunteering as mentor/tutor, ~400 hours paid work as a camp counselor at summer camp for children with special needs
Work: 2 restaurants for a few hundred hours each
Research: 3 years in biomedical/neuroscience lab, 2 local posters, involved in published projects, however no publications, but I did start my own project, designed and ran experiments, wrote and defended an undergraduate thesis.
Teaching: 100 hours (2 semesters) teaching a colloquium at my uni for freshman students
Other: IM Flag Football, 4 years, a few hours a week, probably 200-300 hours total
Gap Year: Working in a medical practice, not clinical, but definitely medical as I will be an assistant to doctors and get them in contact with physicians in other departments
I don’t think my ECs are anything special, but my MCAT suggests I could have a chance at some high tier schools based on MSAR/LizzyM/Wedgedawg, but I think I’ll definitely need to apply broadly.
Here is my school list:
U Florida
Miami
Florida State
South Florida
Central Florida
Georgetown
Tufts
Pitt
Ohio State
Michigan
Emory
USC
Boston U
But I need to add more. I am thinking of trying to shoot my shot at a school like Hopkins, but adding some high tier schools like:
Columbia
Dartmouth
U Chicago
Duke
Hopkins
UCLA
I just want to make sure I have enough middle tier schools on my list. So do you think there are enough on my list, and if not, what are some mid tiers I should consider?
I was thinking of adding:
Indiana
U Alabama, Birmingham
Thank you!
