3.1 cGPA, 3.2 sGPA undergrad
3.5 Georgetown SMP
34 MCAT
EC's: one year research lab, 2 years physical therapy aide, shadowing, etc.
California resident
I'm interested mainly in primary care

First time applying D.O. I will also be applying MD (second time), and was aiming for something like ~25 MD apps and ~10 DO apps. List so far:

A.T. Still University - School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona
Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University
New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine–California
Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest

I pretty much made this list based solely on where I'd want to live, but I'm not sure exactly how picky I can be. Is there anything wrong with this list? Are there any DO schools that are particularly above the rest in terms of faculty/opportunity/etc? I have a DO letter as well.

You will get in everywhere for DO. Apply to the best - TouroNY, CCOM, PCOM, MSUCOM (only if you are MI resident bc of high tuition). Any volunteering though?

Thanks for the advice. I don't have much volunteering ~120 hours boys and girls club mentor over the span of a year but thats about it

Just so you know for SOMA, you are only in Mesa for your first year then a designated CHC site your next three.

Chances are great. It seems that your school list is all east coast or west coast and in cities. Any particular reason you have COMP-NW on your list? It's the one school that's rural. Ever consider NSUCOM? It's in Ft Lauderdale and is quite urban, but is hot, humid and has hurricanes, something none of the other schools on your list have

I would drop NYIT. 81% of matriculants last year were from NY alone, much higher percentage when you add in the peripheral states. I would trade it for Touro-NY since you like the NY region, I feel your chances would be much greater there.

It seems like you're interested in living in large cities from that list. You would have a very good shot at Rocky Vista University in Colorado and school is about 20 minutes from downtown Denver. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice. I took out NYIT, COMP-NW, and SOMA. Added Rocky Vista.

Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine–California

Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific

Is this list too short?

You were aiming for 10 DO schools originally, wouldn't hurt to add a few with lower averages. LMU, WVSOM, KYCOM (unless you don't like those areas/programs). And/or add LECOM's, if it were me I'd have LECOM-Erie and Bradenton on that list.

I would not apply to Rocky Vista because it is for-profit, but that is just me.

Don't be discouraged from SOMA by what I said about not being at Mesa for 4 years. You get to rank your CHC's, which are in multiple places, including Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Tucson, and Brooklyn as the larger cities. I just didn't want you to pick a place based on location without realizing what location really entails at SOMA.

Not trying to change your opinion, but I'm actually genuinely curious. Why does their for profit status bother you after they have now proven that they're a quality medical school?
