Do you think it's over? I just applied last week =(
I didn't realize what a fleeting stampede application was.

The archaeologist.

I don't think its totally over- people will be moving off wait lists for awhile, I just got one Monday, someone just listed Harvard BID. But to apply now? You're going to be at a disadvantage everywhere. I'm not sure who told you that waiting this long was no big deal, but most schools have probably filled their interview spots by now. You're best bet is that someone notices you off the waitlist and gives you a spot. I'm sorry your medical school didn't talk to you about this.

I would echo what moped stated. I did overhear a program director telling an applicant that there tends to be a ton of wait list movement for the January interview dates because people start to get tired of interviewing, running out of allocated money, and feel satisfied with the number of places they have interviewed. Thing is a lot of schools have already planned for this and have developed wait lists with very qualified applicants whom applied early. It is going to be an uphill battle and I would be very proactive and ensure that you have applied broadly, including a lot of places where there might be wait list movement, such as programs in less desirable locations. I also overheard a program director state that this year was a competitive one compared to recent years.

I personally have not gotten a neurology interview in close to two weeks but really there is not much to hear back from as the ones I have not hear back from are them most competitive programs. Still getting prelim interviews on regular basis. For the person interested in Partners, I overheard an applicant saying that he had gotten an interview there.

No rejections yet and for that I am thankful ;).

I'm wait-listed at a program in California that has its last interview date very early next month. I don't have any confirmed invites right now other than that one :(. I'm hoping I get a chance to interview at least!

Can confirm that Partners has been sending out invites, they had a decent amt of openings still when I got it.

I think most places have filled their interview slots, but no news is good news and it doesn't hurt to update a program with interest (was dubious but I did it); especially if you have something big like a improvement on your Step 2 or a publication . I found out I was at the "top" of a waitlist (whatever thats worth) and that my app was still under review at another place through this recently.

Would be useful at this point I think for peeps to share if they're withdrawing at certain places

Just got an invite this week to Penn State, adding it below.
I'm experiencing a lot of movement on wait lists, my last two interviews have contacted me with single dates within the next 7 days. Just be proactive about it.

Had anyone heard of anyone getting interviews from UTMB, UT Houston, LSU Shreveport, or Louisville? I did hear someone who had interviewed at Texas Tech, which was also not on the list.

I interviewed at Louisville very early on, but didn't hear anything from LSU Shreveport, UTMB, or UT Houston, even though I did hear from almost all other Texas programs. My friends applying from TX schools also have not heard from UTMB or UT Houston.
I decided to email UT Houston and UTMB about my application status and UTMB responded saying their interview slots were filled and no response from UT Houston. I do think it's unusal that no one on here has heard from them.

Yeah, had a Baylor interview and was thinking that scheduling interviews at any of those places (especially UT Houston) in a similar timeframe would be wise to maximize time.

11/6 got invite from Yale. They still looked to have several dates for interviews. I had gotten the "still in consideration" message several weeks before invite. Program I am pretty excited about.

I got rejected from UT Southwestern a while back, but other than that, haven't heard anything from the Texas programs.

Same for Yale. Don't lose hope everyone, there is still lots of movement for programs

Can someone add me in for UT San Antonio? I just got the invite today. For some reason, I can't seem to quote that big list.

Hey, congrats!

Thanks so much! Its my first invite of the season, for neuro. Looks like programs are still reviewing apps and sending out invites as well, just by the sense of what I got after calling programs on my list.

Been quiet around here. Anyone getting anything? Anyone here of any rejections going out?

Does anybody know the Emory interview dates for the rest of the season? Thanks!

Been quiet around here. Anyone getting anything? Anyone here of any rejections going out?

I called around to a few programs; got to know that I was silently rejected. Others I'm still waiting on or I'm on the waitlist.

Cali, I like the active approach. I have to ask. What is it like to call programs? I have an interview at a program and they never confirmed my interview so I called the number on the programs website. I called about 2-3 times and the phone would always ring 2-3 times and go to voice mail. It seemed like person was hanging up phone on me. Are the coordinators friendly? It would seem to me that they might be frustrated because they are in the busy part of the season.

I commend you for being so active, but for me I would be too scared.

That is so odd that you would get an interview and then they can't confirm it for you. Did you try emailing them? Honestly, its just like calling an office or any other type of business. All the coordinators that I've spoken with have been very friendly. I haven't been able to reach quite a few programs on the phone at all though :(. Right now I only have 1 invite for neuro, so that's why I'm so active, lol. In fact, I got that invite the day after making a phone call :). I do think they screen phone calls though, cause today I was able to get through to a program that I've been calling since last week.

Been super quiet for me too. No new invites in 3 weeks and no new rejections in 2.

I think we are in the zone of waitlists (and silent rejections). I checked last years thread and there were people listing invites at good programs up through early December, so I think we should all assume silence is waitlists unless we actually get rejections.

Silent rejections are the ****tiest thing. How hard can it possibly be to send out a form email? It seems like a lot of the bigger, more prestigious programs send rejections, so its certainly not an issue of how many people they need to contact.

Yeah its pretty ****ty. I called some more programs today and found out that I had been put on hold but not been chosen. That really sucked :(.

Don't give up hope! I've been slowly getting more interview invites with unfilled dates past few weeks. I also here the season opens up again in December/ January as people start canceling interviews. Just be proactive and contact programs.

Been doing that every day for the past couple of weeks or so :).

If you get a late interview does that invariably mean you are a weaker applicant? If so does this usually mean you will be ranked lower by a program?

My Med school advisors claim no, but I've heard programs that gave me October interviews tell me that they preferred to interview their "top half" or "top third" early.

I've heard that once you have an interview, the interviews are pretty important to their ranking. And if someone canceled and you got offered a spot late, that means whoever was better qualified and got the offer first rejected them. They are no longer your competition, and you are on the approx. playing field of whoever else was slightly above you on their list.

Got pulled off a waitlist, I've cancelled some upcoming in Dec and Jan. , hope others get some movement.

I'm hoping to get pulled off a waitlist as well. Is it worth inquiring about waitlist status?

I think it never hurts to call, but I don't think it helps. I just got a "we're full, and we'll call you" type feedback.

Ya. :/ got rejected from Partners as well. Also from Duke.

So pretty much everywhere I've gone so far for interviews, people have mentioned how many more people from their schools are applying into Neuro this year.
That being said - I've gotten interviews at some places I would absolutely love to go, but I am starting to get paranoid that more people applying = more strong people interviewing = me being less likely to get one of my top 3 choices. Do you guys think this can make the NRMP statistics we all rely on (~78% match into top 3, etc) less relevant?

My impression was that hospitals were interviewing a smaller percent of people as a response rather than interviewing more and taking fewer of those they interviewed. But if someone says they are interviewing more people, obviously that lowers your chances.

U. Chicago has an opening December 3rd that I just turned down (like half an hour ago). If you want to go there, this is the moment to get in touch with them. It's there last interview date.

Got a rejection from University of Michigan recently. Aside from the ones listed anyone get any new rejections? Particularly from some of the more competitive programs.

Anyone want to trade his/her Baylor interview date for my Dec 7th date?

My impression was that some programs were cutting back on the number of applicants they interviewed. I interviewed at University of Washington and the program director told me that they actually cut number of interview days and were interviewing less people. They only had 4 interview dates with 20 people each.

That sounds pretty program specific.
And I haven't gotten any new rejections. Maybe we should have a list of programs we know and rejections.

That sounds like good idea.

Programs I have heard that have sent out rejections in mass include:

- Partners
- Northwestern
- Duke
- UT Southwestern
- University of Michigan

I have a friend whom got rejected from Stanford after he sent a letter of interest. Not sure if they have sent out rejections in mass.

Boston University and Yale send rejections.

I really like this. Because this way we know that if we haven't heard from a place that does send rejections that it means we are wait-listed and not silently rejected. I hope people participate. We won't assume you were the one rejected- startlinglineup and I have info from other people. Precedent set.

That sounds like good idea.

The last rejection I got was from U of Michigan. But I already knew that I got rejected from there a couple of weeks back when I called them to find out about my application. I know I'm still on the waitlist at several institutions though. Speaking of Boston University, I never got any correspondence from them.
