We need new MD schools to prevent the holistic takeover of Medicine by DOs!

I remember reading another thread a while back where someone was saying that there are so many spots filled by IMGs every year that even with all the new schools opening up there will still be spots.
There are were like 6000 filled by IMGs and with these schools opening it will be closer to 4500ish. The gap is closing fast and that also means that more students may be forced into fields they do not want to be in

@jojo58 Many of the new schools are MD...

Those are the numbers of active applicants. Page 2 shows the numbers of those who matched. 2,316 US-IMGs and 3,139 non-US-IMG. Total of 5,455 spots.

So that would actually make closer to 4,000 spots left after these new schools are established
Sorry, I mis-interpreted you!
The number of IMG's is huge. The proportion that match is very likely to decline as US schools expand faster than residency positions.

In this thread: we build the definitive 2016-2017 school list for non-URMs that don't meet the 3.7/510 threshold.

for most of these new schools, yes, but some will be very competitive (Mayo Arizona). There may also be a new school that ends up like Hofstra, which is also a fairly new school that quickly became competitive.

Hey everyone!

New MD schools opening in 2017?

I know for Private there is: Seton Hall, Henricopolis
Public:

If anyone can add to this list it would be greatly appreciated!

Neither of those is on track to open in 2017.

Go here: http://lcme.org/directory/candidate-applicant-programs/ and focus on the ones that have progressed to candidacy: Roseman, UNLV, and WSU. These are the schools on track for 2017.

Mayo-Arizona is technically a geographically distributed campus of Mayo-Minnesota.

Does that mean there will be two separate application pools for Mayo Arizona and Mayo Minnesota? Like you can choose to apply to only Arizona?

Or does it mean there will be one application pool for both Mayo campuses but now there is 50 more seats?
