Are there any downsides to attending a new US school as far as chances at competitive residencies?

I don't have first hand experience so take this with a grain of salt but some that come to mind..

-less "prestige"/not as established yet
-since their just starting on their feet it is likely that they will run into problems in their program like scheduling and curriculum. Whether that affects your chances at a competitive residency is up for debate
-the quality of the rotation sites that are set up for you may be questionable
-no upperclassmen to give advice or shed some light on the do's and don'ts

I think there are definite advantages of going to a new school especially if you are the first class.. I just don't think those advantages have much to do with competitive residencies.

What advantages?

What advantages?

Well the the first class usually get significantly reduced tuition and scholarships-- I guess the medical school is trying to attract students to come to their school. and I think sometimes the second and third class receive great scholarships as well. They also have smaller class sizes (which is good if you like that type of thing), more individual attention I guess. They usually have newer facilities.. I'm sure there's other advantages too that I just can't think of right now lol

You'll always be the most experienced (if inaugural class) med students on campus...

kinks, alot of them, but u'll be able to get involved w/ leadership especially. boost up your resume
