Does anyone know what the “finalist email” consists of?
I have a roles drop down and I am dental. It does not say participant tho, it still says scholarship applicant. I don’t think I noticed that option before the scheduled maintenance this weekend. But I’m not 100%.Yeah I don’t see the roles dropdown option but I'm not sure if anyone has that for dental?
Right now I have the roles drop down, but I think it’s because I had applied for one of the other scholarships in the past. My drop down does not say participant tho, it looks like the attached picture. I did get a credit check on Aug 10th. I am Dental@predentals I don't even have a roles tab but I know people who have applied before/ to multiple scholarships would have it
Ok mine looks exactly like that. I just assumed maybe I applied for loan repayment before coz I had been interested in it. But I don’t exactly remember applying for repayment.View attachment 316096
This is all I have. Im in dental school, I applied last year as a first year and now this year as a second year student. I’ve never applied for loan repayment.
Honestly I don’t think it means anything because it has been there for awhile. Before the credit check. So since the portal changed for Hopeandbelieve2991 should we expect finalist emails to be sent out soon?
Is anyone else still crossing their fingers for the credit check? Just me?
Did it let you login to the participants page?View attachment 316118
I have this now and I didn't have it before the update, I am a DO applicant. Not sure if it means anything because when I go to click on it, it says something along the lines of: "You do not have privilege to view this."
EDIT: Also have a roles tab but it just takes me to my submitted NHSC application page.
Was the "A Participant" Section new since the update or the tabs below?View attachment 316118

I got a credit check but do not have any "roles" tab on my page. I guess this means I most likely did not get it? Pretty dissapointing! I am a PA student.

I clicked the link circled in red and it took me to this page:

My completely baseless take: the roles tab only shows for people for people with multiple roles. I have it and it shows NHSC alone with Nurse Corps because I once accidentally clicked on the Nurse Corps hyperlink. I think the roles tab is only relevant if one of the options under is participant.

And what happens when you click continue?

I get this when I click it. I hesitate to keep going in case I’m not supposed to for some reason. Since “not a participant” is an option I doubt it means anything, but who really knows?
That is exactly what happens when I get it so I believe that it does not mean anything unless you actually become a participant!View attachment 316124

So this is what's coming up for me now too when I hit continue instead of the previous error message. The roles tab now has a participant tab under it to now for me.
You can't login under participant unless you're a scholar (until you get the scholarship). If you try to login/activate, it will say that you're not a participant and redirect you back to the login page.
After doing this you will have a "roles" tab. Under it you will have "participant", and "NHSC SP", because you attempted to login as a participant.
(At least this is what happened to me last year) I accidentally logged in using participant, thinking it was the login page for the scholarship application. I think that's why the roles tab appeared for me. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean anything.
Do you get a notification from your creditor??
I am a med student and also have yet to get one. Holding out!I have not received anything yet and have been checking my Credit Karma daily since some folks said it appeared there first. In the past, there have been two rounds of credit checks, so there is still a chance of getting in the second one. However, who knows how the pandemic may have changed that.
August 30th or September 30th? Either way, the wait still sucks, especially since school has already started.I am dental, I received a credit check last week and also have that tab? Not sure if that is helpful or not. I called and they did say we can hear back any day between now and the 30th. She said we would get an email and it would change to "finalist".

but if we are being honest, how many of you will actually accept the NHSC scholarship if awarded? i heard a lot of horror stories which basically all say what you agree to the day you sign your contract, can change drastically from then until the day you graduate and start working. tbh if they wanted to they can change the score requirement from like a 17 to like a 25. aka only working in the most needed areas aka middle of nowhere most of the time lol. idk what i would do if i was offered the scholarship
I'd accept it even if they said the requirement was working at a HPSA score of 26 for 5 yearsbut if we are being honest, how many of you will actually accept the NHSC scholarship if awarded? i heard a lot of horror stories which basically all say what you agree to the day you sign your contract, can change drastically from then until the day you graduate and start working. tbh if they wanted to they can change the score requirement from like a 17 to like a 25. aka only working in the most needed areas aka middle of nowhere most of the time lol. idk what i would do if i was offered the scholarship
I’m contemplating it daily. I worked really hard on my application but, now after reading posts Im nervous. There have been also people saying they had no issues so I guess it’s you and your luck. I think issues are few and far between but, if you do have a problem you are screwed.
Yes, you will have to pay back living expenses on your own (the refund). In terms of the amount I typically get 12k per semester "refunded". I am not sure if that will change once you get the stipend also...This may be a dumb question but if we get the scholarship do we have to pay back our school issue refund (the grad plus loans). I know that the scholarship covers the cost of tuition so those loans will just go back, but the refund we get to cover living expenses do we get to keep that? Not sure how much I should accept for my school refund since it may be months before we get the NHSC stipend.

This is really disheartening. If people aren't excited about working in a high-needs area, they shouldn't apply in the first place. The last thing under served communities need is for a provider to come in, give the bare minimum for 4 years, and then leave them without a healthcare provider. This scholarship is about a lot more than getting loans paid off quickly; it's about investing our time and talents into communities to promote health and wellness. The application never promised luxury.

I completely agree... you read all the terms and conditions. If you can’t picture yourself working there after completing school like why apply in the first place.Agreed. I've seen a couple posts like this and for someone who grew up in an area much like the ones people are so dreading working in, it's kind of a bummer. I'm applying because I want to help lift up communities like the one I grew up in. The idea that you can't stand it so much that you couldn't even work there for a couple years... I would think the scholarship is just not for you.
