I had Credit Karma beforehand but not Experian. Nothing showed in credit karma. But when I created the Experian account I saw the inquiry there.
Was the date of the report today (06/15) or yesterday? I just want to know if there was another round today. Thanks.

The people in the Nhsc 2017-2018 heard back around mid June too and finalists email went out like August 7th. So I’m assuming we hear back around then too

I did not get a credit check. Does that mean I am out of the running or are there more credit checks in the future?

Hoping that means in 3 weeks there will be a finalist notification

Does everyone else have the participant tab? Haha it's funny going a couple pages back in this thread and seeing everyone freak out about the meaning.

Where do you see it? I don’t think I have it.

The participant tab is meaningless. Try logging into NHSC but from the "Current Participant/Current Scholar" menu. It will not let you log in but the tab will show up on your account.

Hi applicants! I’m an incoming med student who is looking to apply for NHSC next Spring. I currently have a choice between two schools, both are DO programs, one is fully accredited and the other is new and pre-accredited.

From what I’ve looked into on the NHSC app guide and calling the National office, you have to be enrolled at a fully accredited school. Therefore if I were to attend the pre-accredited school I would not be eligible to apply. Is this correct? Just wondering if anyone has had this question and looked into it before?

I think you have to be entered into a fully accredited program. I would call and ask though!

Hi guys. MS2 here. I applied for the scholarship back in 2018 and received it. If you have any questions about the application process let me know and I'll try to answer!
Hello California Bear - I had applied for the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) in May 2021. Their website says the final decision would be made in September of this year. Received an alert from my credit bereau that NHSC ran a credit check on me a week back. Does it mean NHSC is seriously considering my application? Or am I thinking too much into it? Also, will there be a interiew for selected applicants before the final decision is made? Waiting to hear from you, Thanks

You are thinking too much into it. I have applied twice, got the credit check twice, and got rejected twice. The credit check means nothing. Also, there is no interview, unfortunately. Sorry to be a downer.

Thx California Bear- do they inform the unsuccessful candidates as well? or just the successful ones? And when do they inform about the NHSC decisions?

Just saw that I got the credit check. I didn't get it last year!
Hi and congrats on getting the credit check (idk if it means much but have heard that you can be confident your application was submitted correctly if you get one). Anyways, I have not gotten a check yet and am wondering if your credit check is dated for, 06/24/2021? and where you checked?

Also did you do something differently (application wise) that you think may have prompted a check this year and not last year?

I have heard everyone gets the check unless their app is missing something that may make it incomplete.

Not everyone gets the credit check, regardless if they complete the application properly. It’s a sign that you’re in consideration of a being a finalist. I know someone who is applying again for the 3rd time, and she got the credit check the first cycle and this cycle, but not her 2nd cycle. The only thing that she’s changed is her LORs

Hi there! I'm an incoming OMS-1 who's waitlisted at an in-state school. I won't find out if I'm accepted off the waitlist up until the last week of July.

Any insight on what would happen to my NHSC application if I switch over schools?

I was considering switching schools and based on the few posts I’ve read, it shouldn’t be a problem as long as the school still qualifies (starts before September 1, etc). But obviously contact them when you find out first.

I don’t think you can!! Im pretty sure I read that you have to go to the a hook you put on the application.

I submitted an email to ask about this since I'm getting mixed answers. While the handbook states that switching institutions is "strongly discouraged", I believe I have an extenuating circumstance that may justify me requesting a switch. I'd like to know more information on the process. I'll write back with an update when I get one from a HRSA representative. 🙂

Didn't change anything (even kept my essays) EXCEPT I was able to get documentation for the Disadvantaged Student status. I was not able to last year due to closures with COVID. The previous year I was way more diligent about checking for errors, where as this year I was very lax.

Credit check showed up on 6/14 only on experian, not credit karma.

Hey all! I ended up being accepted at said school last night and called an NHSC representative this morning. The employee over the phone noted my request to switch institutions in my application along with my reasons why.

I was told there would be no guarantees that they'd approve the switch. I'm hoping it gets approved though since decisions haven't been made.

That's awesome! Good luck, hope they allow the switch (probably will lol).

It's been a month since the first round of credit checks and there hasn't been a second round yet? I wonder if there is not going to be a second?

My thoughts too. I figured they automatically credit check everyone to get baseline, but I haven’t seen a 2nd round yet and I thought I had a super strong app this year compared to last……and they got a ton of extra funding with stimulus.

just my luck I reckon

According to my sdn research we should hear back July 27th or so. The Nhsc thread in 2016 like us got credit checks in June 16th and finalists went out July 27th.
The latter years got credit checks later than us so im sticking with the 2016 thread timeline.
Did they also get a second credit check?

No I don't believe so, but there were multiple rounds of finalist notification. You can check yourself just google sdn nhsc dental 2016. You can actually check the past few years from like 2015 to now. Just like to see the historical trend to predict when we will hear back.

The site also went down for maintenance recently so hoping we hear back soon!

There was a second round of credit checks in the 2016 cycle. The first roung was 06/14 and the second round was 07/21. Hopefully those who have not gotten a check, including me, get some news on Wednesday. 🤞

Also there have been finalists who have been surprised because they not got no credit check but became finalists according to what I read the past few years as well

I went to check my portal for the scholarship, and it says there's scheduled maintenance from 8 PM tonight to 10 AM tomorrow...maybe this means we'll hear something soon?
