Get it from the resident-isn't a resident an MD or DO?

i guess. but the form says "recommendation from an osteopathic PHYSICIAN" technically residents arent physicians are they?

aren't they? They certainly practice medicine, and they have the letters DO or MD behind them. Those criteria meet the definition of physician.

They are.. just get one from them... end of story.

Do I even have a chance with LECOM if i dont have a physician recommendation? I have a residents recommendation at best 🙁

MCAT 28, 3.25gpa about 3.2 science

Actually I called LECOM before applying and they told me that nothing will substitute a recommendation from DO. I had a recommendation from MD and they said its great but they need recommendation letter from DO. And I didn't apply there.

you can bet once I have D.O. after my name I'll be a physician... granted I won't be an attending physician at first, but I can still sign jonb, DO. If the resident is a D.O. then it will work... best of luck!

LECOM and VCOM definitely need a DO letter. Again I should say that DO's doing fellowship or recidency, they are still DOs. AND CAN WRITE LETTERS.

thats good news i guess. although i am not sure whether the resident i got typed it on official letterhead or not.. i never got to see the letter or anything.. thanks guys

Has anybody ever asked a D.O. they've shadowed to write a rec letter even though they've not really interacted much? To clarify, I regularly shadow at his office, which is full of MS3 and MS4 students doing their rotations. I'm allowed to stand in on every case, but the D.O. comes in only to discuss the case with the student and to ask the patient some follow-up questions. I'm stilll getting a good feel for the profession and I have a good rapport with the students. They've been great in helping to answer the questions I have.

However, when the time comes to get a rec letter, I'm a little afraid to ask. Any suggestions?
