27 here, I'll be 28 or 29 when I matriculate. That is if I decide I want to take this plunge or not. I have just decided that I will forget what year I was born, problem solved.

I'm 45, applying this cycle. (Am I the oldest one here?)

Sorry, I'll be 48 when I start this Fall. I have 2 kids in college and our income to tuition ratio will be about 1:4. It's possible that I may be crazy to do this but I can't spend 20 more years working at a job I hate.😉

Congratulations: you have won the Fogey. (Award for oldest nontrad applicant of the year, which I just made up.) Good for you!

I notice you've already been accepted somewhere; keep your fingers crossed for me.

22 in December

Thanks for making me feel young 😛 (Kidding, of course)

Good for you! And I totally know what you mean about the "job I hate" sentiment. And you're not crazy, you have to do something you love or THAT will drive you crazy. 😉 Anyway, I just turned 41 and I'm embarking on this journey as well! Exciting stuff 🙂

wow, I'm not the oldest! I love you guys who are doing this in your 40s -- good for you! It makes me feel like maybe I'm not crazy for trying to do this.

Anyway, I'm 35 now, but if all goes well I'll matriculate at 37.

Was 32 when I started undergraduate work. Had planned to work straight through and be in med school by 36. But...got sidetracked and will finish up my undergrad in Classical Studies in May 2010. After that, I plan to do my pre-med reqs post-bacc and hopefully begin med school 2012, which would put me at 38 during MS1.

(Oh yeah: 1 wife, no kids, 1 dog, 5 fish, 1 hamster)

Just turned 34 yesterday. I have one husband and 2 cats. Woohoo! Go non-trads!

I am 32 now and am applying this year. If I get into medical school, will be 33 when I start, 37 finish med school, 38 internship, and 42 finish residency and hopefully start practicing🙂 Nothing to complain or regret because becoming a physician is the dream of my life now.

26 now

27 when i take the MCAT and submit AMCAS

(hopefully)28 when i matriculate

:luck:

I am 34, yes I said it 34. You guys are still young, I will be making my rounds with a walker!🙂

I'm 34 too (for two more weeks). Not any earlier than class of 2016. I guess that makes me really old.

35. Accepted to matriculate 2009.

Will turn 37 in M1
will turn 41 in my intern year.

Attending at 44-48.

17-21 years to practice as an attending until 65. Sounds like a career to me.

And if I'm lucky maybe I can practice past 70.

Dr. Hickman, as in the Hickman catheter, retired last month at the age of 82, operating right up to the end. Rock star.

Yay for us non-trads! I'm 23 - graduated a year and a half ago. Prepping for the MCAT and working full-time in research. Applying for matriculation in 2010.

This is an interesting thread. I got married when I was 19 (still no kids) went to community college for my associates then transfered to a state university. Originally, I wanted to go to law school and realized there was/is a surplus of lawyers in the usa:whistle: I was accepted into a lib sci master's program, then I shadowed some librarians and realized that was a "bad" idea. So now i'm doing my prereqs and hoping to matriculate in 2010! I've got a hubby, a house, car payments, everything but the kids! I've been working in HR for the last two years. I'll be 26 when I start med school😍

29 now and will hopefully begin school at 30...nice form all you non-trads!!!

I am 40, as of TODAY. 🙂

I'm 34, basically starting as a peon. lol I actually have my appt with my counselor at the community college in the a.m. to sign up for spring and summer classes. Long road ahead, but it's not like I have anything better to do! 🙂

32. Will turn 33 as an M1. Just accpeted a couple of weeks ago. I have a wife and 2 kids and went back to school in August of 2007 to get a Masters and make myself a viable candidate. It's nice to see there are others out there looking at the same hill to climb in several months. Good luck everybody!

I am 40. Hoping to start medical school next year!! I am excited, so are my 13 and 11 year daughters.

25 now, and will be 26 when I enter med school in the Fall.

:claps:
Yay to everyone on this forum who stayed motivated and accomplished their dreams!!!

Me, myself am at the beginning of my road. Just beginning post bac at 27, will hopefully finish at (starting January 2009-Summer 2010) 29, apply to medical school that cycle and begin at 31.

Ugh, long road ahead but I will just keep reading these forums and remember that I have to keep my mind to it!!

Thanks again for the motivation! 😀

I am a 3rd year osteopathic medical student on clinical rotations and 45. I will be 47 when I start residency and 50 when I finish residency. We have 3 of us in college and 2 more to go. It's all good!

21 with an almost 4 year old (she will be 4 on christmas! YES, christmas day!)

30 currently, will be 31 as an M1.

1 husband, 3 kids (6,4, and 2 at matriculation)

1 house to sell in this economy 😱, but still so worth it 😍

31 now with ~2 yrs of undergrad left... 33 or 34 (if i have to do a glide year) when I get accepted!

I'm a first time poster here in the nontrad forum and am glad to see all the support.

I was at Indiana Univ this Wednesday and they had an MS1 that was 41. So those of you on the fence about med school because of your age, don't give up hope.

Oh yeah, and I'm 25 now but will be 26 when I matriculate.

Good luck everyone!

28 here as of a few months ago...re-taking some classes spring and summer 2009 and the MCAT as well. Applying on June 1, 2009 and hopefully be 30 when I start in Fall 2010...good think I look like I'm only 24-25 tho!!

Hello All.

First time posting on the Forum. I'll chime in: 35 y/o; WILL be 37 at matriculation. Two children.

A story to share for us non-trads:

I went to see a Doctor today, (nothing like a 9:15am digital exam)
and he asked me what I do for a living. I told him I write for television shows but am leaving "it all" for medical school.

When the Dr. returned to examine me (after looking at my file)
he probingly said, "That's quite a task to undertake, Medical School at 35..." I paused a beat and very nicely replied, "Quite true. But the harder task to undertake would be not following my calling for the rest of my life."

We both chuckled as he asked me to bend over. 😎 Point of the story, this sage Doctor knows what we're partaking in here, the study of medicine is a heavy task at any age. But my reply made it clear that no matter the perception, I need to do this.

I like this doctor, he is the only Doctor I have ever seen in my life who takes you into his office and sits you down BEFORE any physical exam.
Simply to discuss the problem at hand. Perhaps this is because I've always lived in large, bustling, too-busy-for-sitdown-MD-visit cities. Or maybe it's a sign of how office medicine has changed from when this Doctor started practicing. Regardless, I told this to my Dr and he thanked me and said nothing is more important than listening to your patient. He wished me luck with Med School.

I have a lot more to share, but will save for another post not related to age. 🙂

Doctor 712

I'm 38.

15 years as a retail recruiter, 1 year in school to become an LPN, and 100's of other people telling me to be a doctor. It's not about the age- it's the mind set.

I have a loving husband, two boys (5 and 8), a house, and a 4.0. I want to be a MD. I am determined. It's about focus and distributing your time.

You don't need a 100 on every test to get an A. You need a 90. Your kids clothes don't have to be ironed every day- Just on picture days and holidays. My kitchen floor is dirty. It was dirty yesterday and it will probably be dirty tomorrow. I'll get to it- just after my test on cell membranes.

Just remember that you can't do it all everyday. Find the priority for today, do it well, and move on till tomorrow!

Well said. 👍 Good luck on your journey and enjoy the ride.

I'm 37, married, 4 kids, and an MS4.

just turned 28, but look like im 18. I got my hair cut the other day and the lady cutting my hair asked what high school i was attending.

funny, I Know the feeling. Im older but look like im 20 or so..

LOL at the post just above.
I'm 33 and recently went to get my hair cut and the guy asked if I would come there to get my hair put up for prom, etc. LOL!!!!
Hopefully he at least thought I was a college student (the place is right by the local university).

29, but most would swear that I'm at least going on 45-55 based on life experiences.

Traditional student until I was 22, then returned to school a few years ~ 4-5 yrs ago...I don't even bother keeping track, but I just focus on the goal 👍👍👍

I was hoping to start in 2010 at age 46, but I've screwed up my post-bacc, so I will probably be in my 50's before I apply and start.

I'm 33 now. I'm matriculating into a 1 year post-bacc in June 2009, so I'll be 36 when I actually matriculate into med school.

Im 23 but with 3 more years of undergrad to go. So Im looking at 27, 28 at the earliest to begin medical school. After med school, I plan to complete an internal medicine residency and then a hematology/oncology fellowship. All in all, Im looking at at least 14 more years of schooling/training. Which is very depressing but will be most fullfilling in the end.

Good luck everyone!

I started my post-bac when I was 25. That took two years. I am now 27 but will be 28 when I start med school in Fall 2009.

HA! I'm 28 and everyone thinks I'm like 18-19 with a 8 yr old daughter.😀 I'm also applying next cycle (originally was going to apply in 2010).

Gosh I'm glad you said that because I can't take it when my apartment is a flipping mess with my 8 yr old buttercup who loves to mess up but hates to clean up.🙄

i am 32, single. no kids.
i swear everyone over 29 has kids/married or divorced with kids.
are there any singles over 27 or so? ...

24 right now, I hope to be an M1 when I hit 27.

I'm 30, I'm starting at PCOM in Fall 2009, and while I'm definitely not single, I'm equally not married, and no kids, no goldfish, no potted plant. Hah!!

Uhmm well I'm out single 28 but with a little girl:laugh:. SDN is just a small population so 27 and up single and no kids is not that hard to find.

i'm 37. going on 11 or so.

I am 25, will apply the next cycle for dental school at age 26 and will hopefully matriculate at age 27. Good luck to everyone applying and congrats to those accepted.

I'm 26 right now and going to be starting postbacc in Jan. Yay! Finally getting this show on the road after talking about it for so long. Hope I will matriculate by 29, if not sooner. It's great to know so many other nontrads out there. In the words of one of my friends who's an MS4 "In 10 years you'll be 36 either way, might as well be 36 and a doctor."
