27 here, I'll be 28 or 29 when I matriculate. That is if I decide I want to take this plunge or not. I have just decided that I will forget what year I was born, problem solved.

Good for you! And I totally know what you mean about the "job I hate" sentiment. And you're not crazy, you have to do something you love or THAT will drive you crazy. 😉 Anyway, I just turned 41 and I'm embarking on this journey as well! Exciting stuff 🙂

Was 32 when I started undergraduate work. Had planned to work straight through and be in med school by 36. But...got sidetracked and will finish up my undergrad in Classical Studies in May 2010. After that, I plan to do my pre-med reqs post-bacc and hopefully begin med school 2012, which would put me at 38 during MS1.

(Oh yeah: 1 wife, no kids, 1 dog, 5 fish, 1 hamster)

This is an interesting thread. I got married when I was 19 (still no kids) went to community college for my associates then transfered to a state university. Originally, I wanted to go to law school and realized there was/is a surplus of lawyers in the usa I was accepted into a lib sci master's program, then I shadowed some librarians and realized that was a "bad" idea. So now i'm doing my prereqs and hoping to matriculate in 2010! I've got a hubby, a house, car payments, everything but the kids! I've been working in HR for the last two years. I'll be 26 when I start med school😍

Ugh, long road ahead but I will just keep reading these forums and remember that I have to keep my mind to it!!

I was at Indiana Univ this Wednesday and they had an MS1 that was 41. So those of you on the fence about med school because of your age, don't give up hope.

Oh yeah, and I'm 25 now but will be 26 when I matriculate.

Hello All.

First time posting on the Forum. I'll chime in: 35 y/o; WILL be 37 at matriculation. Two children.

A story to share for us non-trads:

I went to see a Doctor today, (nothing like a 9:15am digital exam)
and he asked me what I do for a living. I told him I write for television shows but am leaving "it all" for medical school.

When the Dr. returned to examine me (after looking at my file)
he probingly said, "That's quite a task to undertake, Medical School at 35..." I paused a beat and very nicely replied, "Quite true. But the harder task to undertake would be not following my calling for the rest of my life."

We both chuckled as he asked me to bend over. 😎 Point of the story, this sage Doctor knows what we're partaking in here, the study of medicine is a heavy task at any age. But my reply made it clear that no matter the perception, I need to do this.

I like this doctor, he is the only Doctor I have ever seen in my life who takes you into his office and sits you down BEFORE any physical exam.
Simply to discuss the problem at hand. Perhaps this is because I've always lived in large, bustling, too-busy-for-sitdown-MD-visit cities. Or maybe it's a sign of how office medicine has changed from when this Doctor started practicing. Regardless, I told this to my Dr and he thanked me and said nothing is more important than listening to your patient. He wished me luck with Med School.

15 years as a retail recruiter, 1 year in school to become an LPN, and 100's of other people telling me to be a doctor. It's not about the age- it's the mind set.

I have a loving husband, two boys (5 and 8), a house, and a 4.0. I want to be a MD. I am determined. It's about focus and distributing your time.

You don't need a 100 on every test to get an A. You need a 90. Your kids clothes don't have to be ironed every day- Just on picture days and holidays. My kitchen floor is dirty. It was dirty yesterday and it will probably be dirty tomorrow. I'll get to it- just after my test on cell membranes.

Just remember that you can't do it all everyday. Find the priority for today, do it well, and move on till tomorrow!

I was hoping to start in 2010 at age 46, but I've screwed up my post-bacc, so I will probably be in my 50's before I apply and start.

Im 23 but with 3 more years of undergrad to go. So Im looking at 27, 28 at the earliest to begin medical school. After med school, I plan to complete an internal medicine residency and then a hematology/oncology fellowship. All in all, Im looking at at least 14 more years of schooling/training. Which is very depressing but will be most fullfilling in the end.

Gosh I'm glad you said that because I can't take it when my apartment is a flipping mess with my 8 yr old buttercup who loves to mess up but hates to clean up.🙄

I'm 30, I'm starting at PCOM in Fall 2009, and while I'm definitely not single, I'm equally not married, and no kids, no goldfish, no potted plant. Hah!!

Uhmm well I'm out single 28 but with a little girl. SDN is just a small population so 27 and up single and no kids is not that hard to find.

I'm 26 right now and going to be starting postbacc in Jan. Yay! Finally getting this show on the road after talking about it for so long. Hope I will matriculate by 29, if not sooner. It's great to know so many other nontrads out there. In the words of one of my friends who's an MS4 "In 10 years you'll be 36 either way, might as well be 36 and a doctor."
