pnasty said:im not sure if this means people have gotten in or that people are withdrawing. last week when i asked if anyone had gotten in off the waitlist she said no and there prob wont be until late may or early june....did you ask about movement or someone getting in?
it doesnt matter too much. probably even a good sign if people are getting in already

wildcat05 said:So I specifically asked the secretary today if there had been people accepted off of the waitlist since there has been so much confusion with the word "movement", and she said there have been "a few acceptances."
SmoothNC said:When I called in today, I asked the same thing....and she confirmed that people have been accepted off the waitlist and then went on to tell me that there has been no change in my status....damn.
pnasty said:i just got an email from Feinberg saying that by May 15th those people who have acceptances will choose their school, and they hope to accommodate students off the waitlist
so even if it hasnt yet, it will be moving soon i guess
SmoothNC said:Yes, I read that e-mail....I'm sure all waitlisted students got it......and I have some insider info...will not divulge the source and the admissions office won't tell you this...but apparently Dean Brown asked the committee to pick the top 15 applicants on the waitlist from each geographical region, and they will go to those waitlisted students first....everyone else is grouped below...they say its unranked, but I bet it is....oh well, good luck to everyone.
pnasty said:im not sure how many geographical regions there are, but 15 for each is gonna be a lot of people. does geographical region mean like northeast, southeast, midwest, etc? i guess if you arent in the top 15 of your region chances are pretty slim...?
SmoothNC said:I have no idea how many regions there are....and yes I agree, chances look pretty slim.....I guess this is the first year they did this......I'm not getting my hopes up.
eastsidaz said:The Midwest pool is likely, if not largest, most competitive.

eastsidaz said:Um so...hate to be the one to say it, but this means there IS, for all intents and purposes, a ranked waitlist, despite what they told us. Which means they lied outright to everyone whom they told otherwise.
Does anyone else find the blatant dishonesty a bit troubling? I mean, I hate to rant, but I've seen this at school after school. My mother always told me to tell the truth no matter what--why are gainfully employed adults willing to lie for a minor gain in convenience? I realize people would try to figure out their rank and hassle the admissions office more, but does this justify dishonesty? It's not even like they misled us or tricked us...they just told us a bald-faced lie. And not just once, but to every applicant who inquired.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox. I'm just saying, is all.
I hope my region (midwest) doesn't have too many people in it! LET ME IN!! 😀pnasty said:im not sure how many geographical regions there are, but 15 for each is gonna be a lot of people. does geographical region mean like northeast, southeast, midwest, etc? i guess if you arent in the top 15 of your region chances are pretty slim...?

eastsidaz - how do you figure the midwest is the hardest? I'd think the regions with Cali students or Ivy students would be the most competitive.
LizzyM said:It is highly likely that the applicants who were just below the cut off for getting offers (and therefore on the waitlist) will have offers at other schools and that many of them will withdraw from NU's waitlist because they got into a school that they like better than NU.
If you looked at the list of schools represented on interview day, or talked to the applicants in the waiting room with you, you might have noticed that East Coast schools are well-represented and West Coast schools under-represented with Midwest schools in the middle (if you'll pardon the pun).
slmsmith said:are they dividing it up by the region your undergrad school is in or the region that you're from originally (your home state)? this process is so complicated!!!
LizzyM said:The geographic designation is by undergrad institution, not home state. On interview day you might have noticed that the files that the individual interviewer had on the desk were different colors... each region has a different color file folder.
I wonder if there is an attempt to even things out once applicants are taken from the waitlist. That is, if the incoming class looks imbalanced (only 44% male, for example) if there wouldn't be some effort to make offers to men who had expressed continued interest in an attempt to even things out (NU is usually about 48-52 one way or the other from year to year). This might apply by geographic region too but maybe not. I do think that it comes down to expressing an interest as per my earlier posts a la Jane Austin.

keedz said:So, I called today and the lady said that there has been no waitlist movement as of yesterday. And also, she took my NAME only instead of my aamc id which she always did.....strange.
pnasty said:There are actually three secretaries that answer the phone (that I know of), so that may lead to some confusion I suppose. I also called today and was told there has been no movement off of the waitlist yet. I know that there has been MSTP waitlist movement, so maybe that is confusing them?
luhando said:I think you're right. It has been MSTP movement...no real movement.
