I guess that didn't come across exactly like I intended. 😳

No, just wondering because the web access at my current job is about useless because they block almost anything.

There really isn't a big firewall as far as i noticed....I watched the starwars trailer from my laptop in class the other day.....

To all fellow future NSU Doc Wannabs--What are your plans regarding housing for next year? Buying is definately not an option, I was wondering what others in the same boat are planning to do?

Sorry I can't help you out, I'm buying (very stressful right now). Goodluck.

That's good. Thanks Robz.

until aug... do nothing, learn nothing.

trust me.

I would have to agree here. You will be lifeless enough once you start med school so enjoy your down time. Study hard when you get here and you'll be just fine. 👍

bumpola . . .

Boy that weather in FLA sure looks better than the rest of the country 😀 👍

Of course, I'm only seeing it online.

well....I am feeling it and let me tell you. Its horrible. There are rotten blue skies. I hate wearing shorts in November. I hate driving in a jeep with the top down. The sun is an evil thing and the beach...don't even get me started on that one. I much rather be where I can't start my car in the snow or I have to go to warm it up and scrape the windshield at least an hour before I drive in the winter. I much rather be where I have to wear multiple layers of clothing and shovel snow.

😀

Well, I think I am going to go outside and lay by the pool now and read physiology. Oh the horror....He He He.

Robz, don't make me move down there early 😀

It is obvious that he is miserable. What a burden he must carry for the cold bound counterparts. He probably never gets to ski or board in winter. One thing is certain, he will have eyestrain from the constant bikini watching. Poor soul.

After many sleepless nights trying to decide where I want to go to med school, I finally made my decision today and I'll be joining you at NSU in 2005!!

see u guys in 0'five.

Had already decided but I finally sent my deposit today... BTW Robz, hows the weather up there??

the beach would be nice if we had more time for it.

guess we cant have our cake and eat it too...

Hey guys, I just got an interview invite at PCOM. I feel like going just to visit Philly, but my gut is telling me to give up my spot to someone who might go to the school...I know there are other worries, but did any of you guys go to interviews after you decided where to go??

I went almost everywhere cause I wanted to make extra super sure. I did turn down kirksville, dmu, touro, and pikeville for interviews. Mmmmmmmmmmm. Cheesesteak.

oh...and I went and interviewed at penn state and UT-memphis after I got accepted to nsucom.

I just got a PCOM invite today also. I will likely turn it down since I would rather live in Fort Lauderdale for equal tuition bucks. I would rather save my money for a house down payment.

I went to the PCOM interview after being accepted to NSU, before receiving acceptance from PCOM, I had already decided on NSU though. Their interview day consists on a lot of sitting around and waiting for your name to be called...

To those already attending NSU...when is the best time to start looking for housing, if planning to rent, and what is the best way to find a roommate? Also, are there any one-bedroom apartments that one person could afford with the proposed budget??

Thanx.

I went in the beginning of May and got a lot of options then.

Oh man, I can't believe this is the first time I've even read this thread.

Congrats to all! Soon you'll be as happy as the rest of us! 🙄

I found my roommate on www.och101.com/nova (I believe that's the right address). Check it out. Tons of info on pretty much all of the housing that a NSU-COM student can commute to/from. I'm a HUGE fan of being walking distance from school in Poinciana Lakes. Once you experience the traffic here, you'll understand why.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, ENJOY YOUR TIME OFF!!! I didn't do anything productive in the 9 months in-between undergrad and med school, and I haven't failed out (yet). Just be ready to WORK WORK WORK!!!

The single biggest piece of advice I can give you is to make every day of medical school into a game. Wynton Marsalis once said "invest yourself in everything you do. There's fun in being serious." And he was 100% right!

I run around and "glad-hand" everyone, everyday. I'm having a blast, and hopefully I'm able to spread some of that enthusiasm.

***for all the guys: I've been here for 15-or-so weeks, and I STILL see a MINIMUM of 3 girls a week that are majorly do-able, whom I've NEVER SEEN BEFORE. No sh1t. Ask the others.***

Anyway, congrats again. Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Chrishanukwanzukkah, and best of luck to all!

-NS

ps. see you before you know it!

If economically feasible, I'd highly recommend going to every interview that you're invited to. I always regretted not having gone to more schools before choosing my undergrad university, and I'm glad I didn't make the same mistake for med school.

If nothing else, you have a more realistic perspective of the school you decide to attend. Before I came to NSU, I heard a lot of people poo-ing their pants over how "technologically advanced" it is. You want to see a tech advanced school? Go to VCOM. They BLOW US AWAY. However, we have actually graduated students before, so nyah! 👎 😛

I just wanted to wish my fellow NSU'ers a Happy Thanksgiving.. I know that this holiday I will definitely be grateful for the great opportunity that I have been given. I know it will be hardder than I even know, but you know what... I cant wait!! 🙂

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL 👍

I guess no one felt my thanksgiving post, thats ok. Right now just posting to keep the thread afloat.

It was very appreciated, I simply didn't feel like replying to repeat the same thing...but thanks!

...and thanks for keeping us going, I am always happy to see new posts from my future classmates. 🙂

Yeah we have been a little quiet, huh? Well I just thought of a question though...oh, make that two...from the forms available on the COM Orientation Page, there is one for scrubs, if we choose to wear scrubs to class do they have to be royal blue?? I'm in nursing now, and it'd be nice to keep my same scrub wardrobe.

Secondly, the scrub order form is titled "scrub and dissection kit order form," but there's nothing on it about a dissection kit...???

Thanx!!

We're allowed to wear any color scrubs we want. I think those scrubs are the ones that say NSUCOM on them.. but you don't need to buy them. There is a scrubs store in the Sawgrass Mills Mall where you can get them a lot cheaper! 🙂

About the scrubs they'll sell you; I've heard nothing good. My faves are Dickies or Fashion Seal, both available at...oh jeez, I forget the name. It's the uniform store on Broward Blvd. The same one that embroiders our white coats.

The extra cash you'll pay for these brands is WELL worth it. (think comfort). Besides, you're already going several hundred thousand dollars into debt to be a doctor. An added bonus about Fashion Seal is they're reversible, so you can flip them inside out and wear them twice before you have to wash them. You laugh now, but you'll see...doing laundry isn't always an option!

-NS

I bought about 5 pairs of scrubs and I am more than cool with them. I also wash them like once a week and...shhhhh I may wear them more than once as well....(oh the horror).

Find scrubs you like and its like wearing pajamas all day long here.

The store you are thinking of is Uniforms of America. You can wear any color scrubs but they are supposed to be solid and match 😛 The ones from SOMA or SOSA or whoever it is are nice but I would only buy one set since you cant try them on beforehand. About the dissection kit, I am not sure why you didnt get the info. It shouldve been sent with the scrubs - I will see if I can find out for you. I didnt buy a kit. I just waited until I met my group and then we split the cost of two kits and a book and we left them in the lab each week so that no one had to lug them around and both groups could use one stinky book and two stinky kits, which worked out very well. Two more weeks until break!!!! 😀

All I have to say about medical school starting is BRING IT ON! I am so fed up with my job and my boss who thinks it is okay to cuss me out--that I would do anything to be buried behind a pile of books and stressed out over grades.

I can't wait to see ya'll in the fall...unfortunately, I don't think they are giong to start school early on my account.

Hey guys, are any of you that have already sent in your $750 still getting reminder notices from NSU. I spoke to the Burser's office and they already cashed my check but HPD keeps sending me notices. I have left messages but still no confirmation. Anyone else in the same boat??

I sent in my deposit, but I haven't gotten any reminder notices.

I haven't sent in my deposit yet, but have received the reminder (singular) in addition to the acceptance packet which had a couple of coupons and one envelope.

Feel certain that a cleared check constitutes "consideration" and therefore a contract has been offered (their letter), accepted by you (sent $$), and received/agreed to by NSU (cashed check). Don't lose any sleep over lack of verbal confirmation.

I just wanted to say its 80 outside today.

That is all.

I sent in my deposit yesterday--it should be well on its way to Florida!! I'm soooo excited. 😀

Also if your interested you can pay the $750 with credit card. I called them and payed with my credit card. It was easier for me. 🙂

So I finally get a call back today regarding my acceptance fee (that I sent and they cashed a month ago) to tell me that they haven't received my deposit fee. Hmmm.. weird I told them being that you cashed it a month ago. So she checks and says oohhhhhh,..o.k. I see it, I'll hold your seat now (6 days before deadline). Lesson being, if I wouldnt have called and hassled them I might have not had a seat. If I were you I would call and check!!

They cashed the check you have the seat....its not a prob.

Now...if they never recieved your check or reciept.....now that can be annoying.

I remember calling them to make sure they recieved everything last year.....but its a pain to catch them at their desks.

So there is no firewall? I'm just curious because at my current job web access is highly restricted - I teach at a high school and they block anything that contains certain key words (ie games, aids, sex, etc.). But I imagine it is different there.

Nova is NOT firewalled per se - it is a typical college setup meaning that all the fun ports are blocked (port 21, kazaa, bittorrent, etc). If you're internet savvy, you can proxy or tunnel around certain restrictions. BTW, there is NOT a cybernanny - so you can surf all the pr0n you want.

🙂 I posted a roommate listing on www.och101.com/nova for anyone going to NSU next year in need of a roommate.

I'm interested in living in Cedar Keys with one other person. I'm waiting for them to call me back to get on the wait list for apartments that will be available this summer.

If you're interested in a roommate please feel free to PM me, or email me. I'm very easy-going, clean and responsible (when the need be). I also have a Siamese cat that will be moving to FL with me. She is very friendly and clean, too.

Hope to hear from those of you in a similar situation (looking for a roommate)!

Although I am definately planning on the roomie thing, I have no clue about where I would want to live or even what is available in the area--however, I'm allergic to cats and kittens....AahhhhCHoooo. Good luck with the roomie hunt. 🙂

Our link was about to fall off the main forum page due to lack of use so I figured I'd make a posting to save us from being on page 2.

Winter is upon us here in Pennsylvania, and I think it is even worse as I think about warm Florida. It is much too cold here for me, but after noon on Friday, I will be a college graduate and I'll be warm as I celebrate completing 4.5 years of college.

Hang in there this winter to all of you from the North, sunny days will be here eventually.

*Sharon Lee*

shoot, im freezin my ass off here.

Going home for Christmas tomorrow. I can actually enjoy the snow because in two weeks I'll get to point at my family and laugh as I get back on a plane and come back to Florida.

Wow. Last day of the first semester. I'm going to go drink until I fall down.

Peace,
NS

You're welcome. I figure I can do easy favors now that may pay off in the future. 😉

I'll put myself in at 80% for NSU next year. The percentage seems to be inversely proportional to the 10-day average temperature in Indiana.
