NSU-COM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yea, that is really weird. my online application is no longer there either. it was there till a few days (or weeks) ago. i'm not sure if it was taken down after my interview or more recently?!?! anyone else who has interviewed and has no application to view on the nsu website?

Ladies and Gentlemen...The Letter Has Arrived...And I'm In!

Anyone who interviewed 1-22 or around there expect letters in the mail soon.

Congratulations!

Are you OOS? Just checked my mail, nothing! But I interviewed 1/25 so I guess I should hear back sometime by the end of next week.

Congrats! Im in Boston, but nothing yet! Did the letter come certified?

Hi, I got an interview for the mid February. I wonder who knows if the spot are all filled and what is the acceptance ratio for people being interviewed.

thanks

Good luck for the interview. Usually, the acceptance rate is pretty high once you get an interview but later in the admissions cycle that goes down somewhat. Just do your best at the interview, it was a relaxing experience for me (though I have not heard back yet!!). Go by the interview feedback on the SDN database as a guide but go through your application and transcripts as well.

is anyone applying for on campus housing? the website is totally confusing.

Another week of waiting for a phone call/letter has begun. Anyone else excited?

I'm probably going to go this route, however, it said new students can't apply for housing until the 21 or 22. I haven't tried to use the system yet, but hopefully it won't be as dreadful as waiting for the admissions office.

I know I'm not the only one currently waitlisted at NSU. I'm curious if anyone has already been accepted off the waitlist yet this year? Do any current students have some remarks regarding waitlist movement? Numbers, timing, etc??

Found out in the mail today that I've been waitlisted. 🙁

I don't think they start examining waitlist till April and May.

when did you interview? stats?

good luck with the waitlist, i'm starting to get worried now that I've been hearing about a number of waitlistings :-/

All the waitlistings are making me nervous too. Just when I talked myself out of worrying about it, along come people that interviewed after me being accepted or waitlisted. This sucks.

did you interview on 1/25? I interviewed on 2/1, haven't heard anything yet. Scared to call 🙄

Oh no, I interviewed on 1/18. They've been torturing me for almost a month now.

You don't have to be scared to call. They'll most likely tell you what they've told me. The delay is "normal" and "nothing to worry about."

I understand they're busy and all, but you'd think they'd deal with things in the order in which they came. I don't give a crap if they're dealing with a ton of late applicants right now. THEY'RE LATE. Deal with those of us that have been waiting before you go on to the next group! This is cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me....

agreed. Maybe the Dean is out of town again or something. I think I'll call on Thursday since I think the adcom meets on wednesdays....

Welcome to the party! I posted a NSU waitlist thread in hopes of getting some current students to chime in. If there's a good chance we'll eventually get in, I'd much prefer to know sooner rather than a week before classes start. Best of luck though!

Hey guys...Don't worry...I interviewed on 1-22 and didn't get anything in the mail until 2-9 (almost three weeks)...Some kid had an interview on 1-29 and got a call within a week...Doesn't seem like they have a logical system of sending out letters...Good luck to everyone!

exactly how I feel. Interviewed on the 18th of Jan as well here. I've practically gone mad over the whole ordeal of being told to wait a few more days, then a few more weeks... Make the decision already!!!

no news on my end. frankly, i feel better not having received anything... seems like the general trend has been that until now the majority of people who heard back were waitlisted. that's not to say that it isn't grueling especially for those of us who have no other acceptances. i think the fact that they have held on to your application that long means that it has made it through their adcom meetings that many times and survived! hopefully this works out for all of us, again there's a good number of seats and it seems like this year they may end interviews earlier, i.e. february.

👍

Conrats to those accepted and to those waitlisted keep up hope, I got waitlisted, and a week later after 2nd deposits were do, I got accepted.

Also don't worry so much about stats, if your stats weren't good enough you wouldn't have gotten an interview. Stats get you the interview, the interview gets you in. So if you have gotten the interview thats as far as stats will take you, the rest is up to the interview you gave. Keep hoping for the best, but as always plan for the worst and get a kick *** app ready for the summer and get a huge jump on the masses.

Good luck everyone, if you have interviewed on 2/1 or 2/13 I was the big guy who gave you the poorly guided tours, so if you have any other questions drop me a line.

I'm sure that your tour was more than adequate. You're probably better at it than I am.

Hey guys!

Congrats to those that were newly accepted!! 🙂vFor those that haven't heard anything and it's been a while, definately call them to find out what's happening. I had to call to find out that I was accepted because I didn't get a call from Rachel and had to call them several times for my acceptance package which arrived AFTER I paid my first deposit. So call them and find out!!

Good luck!! 🙂

Not until March 15th when the 2nd deposit is due. At that time, some students withdraw their acceptances and that leaves room for distribution of acceptances to those who interviewed in January/February and all of the waitlisted individuals. Best of luck.

Anyone know how many seats are left? Are all seats filled and is nsu just waitlisting students now? thanks

Last I had heard the Class of 2012 was a little over 80% full, and the waitlist as HemOnc mentioned will likely start moving after the 15th of March. Last year we had pretty good waitlist movement and several of our class mates were accepted from the waitlist. Each year is different however so you cannot ever predict waitlist movement one year to the next. Good Luck though to everyone.

I just received an acceptance to another program, but NSU is my first choice, which I'm currently waitlisted at. I need to send in a deposit to this program by March 4th. If there's going to be no movement until March 15th for NSU, should I call them to plea my case? Any suggestions??

Us who have interviewed at the end of January up until now still haven't heard, so I'd imagine they'd get back to us before examining the waitlist, but I could be completely wrong.

I can totally relate though, I had a deposit due this wednesday and had to send in all of the $2000 because NOVA would not budge and tell me if I was accepted or not, even though its been over 2 weeks since my interview.

SO MAD! I hope how poorly admissions is run there is no indication of the COM in general...

Well looks like the 2 of you should inform them you're going elsewhere. Two more spots open!!

When did you interview? I interviewed on 1/25 and received a waitlist letter two weeks later. HOWEVER, I've seen others from 1/25 who've heard nothing. NSU admissions office seems like a real mess! There's also more letters out there about setting up e-mail accounts, etc. What's up with them?

hell no, still want to go to NSU but didn't want to give up a spot elsewhere just in case I don't get in....

interviewed on 2/1, 1 kid got waitlisted of the 2 i kept in touch with....do you think maybe everyone that HASN'T gotten waitlisted yet is going to get accepted? seems like that might be the case....

I'm under the impression (mostly from reading SDN) that the Admissions Office is just backlogged. If that's the case, I'm sure they'll have more acceptance/waitlist/rejections to send out from the more recent interviews. Unless they really are not making anymore decisions until after 3/15. If so, who knows what to expect.

i spoke to rachel a few minutes ago and she basically told me that for the time being the dean was holding off on acceptances until they have a better idea of who will be joining the class from the students who have been accepted. they have a 2nd deposit due on 3/14 by when they will have a good idea of the class size and how many more to admit so they dont over-admit. i asked her if this meant the class was full and she said no but they cant go over their class limit and at this point it is hard to tell how many people will actually come to nsu. i asked if there was any chance of hearing back this week or next week. she said its unlikely to hear back this week and there's small chance for next week but essentially everything's on hold till then.

oh well!! i'm going to keep checking the mailbox anyway!

I just got my interview packet in the mail, and from the reading material it seems the school has a pretty strict attendance policy. Im not sure if it will actually be an issue, I know on one hand that it will help because you always learn something in class, but I wouldn't want points taken off of my grade because I missed class. How do some of you current students feel about the attendance policy? Is it really that big of an issue for you guys?

during our interview they said that even though attendance is mandatory you only start losing points one you have missed more than 30% of your classes. you can also get a friend to swipe you in, but every now and then the profs will check to see who's actually there. 2nd yr you have to swipe your id just once at any point in the day and that's enough. from what med students said its not that bad, the majority of people get used to it and if not they learn to.

good luck on your interview.

As madscientist indicated, a little over 80% of the class if full. Admissions has held off sending out notifications until they get caught up with material. I suspect a large number of acceptances starting March 16th. Best of luck.

For myself, the attendance policy is fine since I absorb a good amount of information from lectures. Each and every one of the students understands the attendance policy and some choose not to abide by it. It's your perogative. There has been instances where professors have purposely done things to "punish" the class for poor attendance. Just giving you the heads up.

What do you mean by punishing the class for poor attendance? The professors punish EVERYONE in someone way, or they might mention something in class that they don't include in the notes or whatever?

We have had tests that seemed extra hard because the questions comes from material only presented in class and not in the lecture notes they provide. In general, if you're not in the good graces of a professors, they can construct the test however they want and the class as a whole doesn't perform as well. So please, don't tick them off.
