NSU-COM Discussion thread 2008-2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey guys, i was just wondering if anyone that has been accepted into the new class has tried logging into the sharklink or the webmail. they said all official mail will be emailed to your account, however my login keeps failing. i get a message saying username/pass not a match. but i have made sure that everything is correct. maybe i am doing something wrong or if that is happening to anyone else? thanks!

there's an email address we're supposed to be using? 😕

uh, missed that memo.

why can't they send stuff to the email on our aacomas app? I've got too many to deal with at this point, I don't need a new one.

how long does it usually take to hear about interviews after submitting the secondary?

^ mine took a little over a week while others who have posted earlier have taken anywhere from a week to still waiting.

Depends on the admissions office...which has varied ratings on this board

Congrads on all of those accepted...hope there is still room for me! Interviewing this friday!

is it possible that some schools might be interviewing ppl for waitlist spots?

Ok, I have tried a bunch of different ways to get into Webmail on Nova's website and I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Anyone else been successful in this? Thanks for your help!

Nova never told me anything about webmail or an email account with them, I don't know if I missed something or if you guys are confused..

I am pretty sure you get the email account and all that other stuff once you are a student.

Last year, email credentials came in a separate piece of snail mail. For me they came after my interview, before my acceptance.

Its possible but not likely. They usually leave spots open intentionally for the second half.

I feel like I've answered this question already....deja vu

Anyway, I'm sure it's possible. At NSU last year I interviewed in Feb and was accepted w/o being waitlisted. So you can take some comfort in that! I'm reasonably sure our class ISN'T full yet.

👍

Anyone in the area for an interview tomorrow? I'll be arriving later this afternoon and was wondering if anyone wanted to explore the city a bit.

Congrats! Does anyone know of an official nsu acceptance thread?

futuredrandwife, did you find out what your status is?

I was out alllllllllllll day and evening today so now I'm seeing a crap load of people were accepted today and... my status has NOT CHANGED. WTFFFFFF I need to knowwwwww.

Now I'm paranoid. No email from Ellen, no status change... kind of expecting the worst now. And it's a weekend, so no calling. Bad stuff.

I'm not sure what practice they are following this year, but they will probably not send you anything until you have submitted your deposit. Have you signed up for your SharkLink/Webmail account yet? If so, they may have to "clear" you before you're able to use it.

Hope this helps.

These things are weird, you're in the same situation I am in with NYCOM.

So I just called Ellen and asked if there was a change in my status, and she said it should be there tonight or tomorrow... Twenty minutes later it says........

PROVISIONALLY ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!! :soexcited::clap::claps::banana::biglove::laugh:

Yeahhhhh I'm freaking psyched.

drwilson- You still haven't heard from NYCOM?? That's so strange... Have you called again??

For those of you interviewing Today (12/16), I'm your tour guide for your walking tour of HPD 🙂

😀

I need to decide on LMU-DCOM or NSU this week... any input?

Hi guys, I was wondering how everyone received their interview dates?
My application says under "Decision: invited for interview" but I haven't received anything about it yet?

For any current NSU-COM students, when you enter the lottery for 3rd year, does everyone try and get the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Locations (Such as Mt. Sinai) or do some people not mind going to Tampa and Georgia? What % of people get their first choice?

I'd email Ellen Rondino and/or Sarah Baksh. PM me if you want either email address.

From my understanding, and I'm not a student yet, it is variable by year. Many people want to go to Largo because the most residency programs are associated with it, but it just depends on the year. A nice chunk of students come from Florida so they may not have qualms with going to a place that is potentially closer to home. I haven't heard of too many people getting places outside of their top 2. If they do, then they can always trade with someone else since there is most likely one or two other people with the same issue somewhere.

Anyone who paid their deposit already, just get the email saying deposits were due dec 14th and to email them and let them know if we decided not to attend?

I got the email, called them, and they don't have a deposit from me. I mailed everything almost two weeks ago. My dad says he wrote five checks that day, and all but one (to NSU) cleared. So it appears my contract and deposit got lost in the mail along the way.

I'm trying to not panic. Calling them is WORTHLESS, as they keep directing me to the registrar (what are they going to do?!).

Who do I call?! I tried Ellen (no answer), and I don't have any other contact info. I don't want to lose my seat! :scared:

Beachblonde- email Ellen and put urgent in the heading of the email. I am sure she will get back to you. You can IM me for her email address at knittingDO on AIM.

I relinquished my spot today. Hope one of you guys gets my spot. Good luck!

I paid online and my status on the application says "deposit received" I don't understand why I got that email. 😛

your deposit is made online not through the mail

I no longer have the papers in front of me, but I'm pretty sure the online deposit was only if you wanted to pay via credit card. I'm 99% positive you were "allowed" to pay by check. I gave the stuff to my dad, he's the one who wrote the check and sent it all in.

Thanks, but I have her info, I did call and left a message. I'll try contacting NSU again tomorrow.

Ya, I think pay online was optional so I don't think you did anything wrong here.

beachblonde, if I were you I'd cancel the check, send them an email informing them that you cancelled it, and pay online. My status changed from "Provisionally Accepted" to "Deposit Received" within a day.

They could just be slow with the mail and you're freaking out because the uncertainty's killing you. Women.

Well, I could pay online, but that doesn't solve the issue of all the other pieces of paper getting lost somewhere.

They should have received the stuff over a week ago. It was mailed from FL! It didn't have that far to go.

And I'll "women" you. 🙄 This is my second app cycle, and I declined my other acceptance. Forgive me for being a wee bit concerned about not having everything in order.

don't worry beachblonde...i paid my deposit over the phone with credit card on Friday. Been worried cuz it still hasn't posted to my CC account but was able to get Sarah on the phone today and she said everything is peachy. And my online status still says provisionally accepted. You'll be fine, future classmate 🙂

In that case I'd ask Ellen to fax you the papers again, resend them certified mail, and then pay online.

Call again tommorow (like you said) and let us know.

You'll "women" me? What does that mean? It sounds exciting.

I have a question that might be answered here since I couldn't seem to raise the admissions office by email or phone today:

I'm a bit older than the average applicant—I earned my bachelor's degree back in '98 and am currently finishing up my pre-requisites with my second and final post-baccalaureate year. The courses I'm taking are strictly science classes.

Regarding the letters of recommendation requirements: I have three science professors, Two M.D.'s, One D.O. and my current employer as my writers. I don't have a pre-professional committee or liberal arts option available.

Has anyone been able to bypass the liberal arts letter requirement without submitting a pre-professional committee letter?

All the excitement on this forum over this school is contagious and makes me really want to at least interview to see the place for myself.

Appreciative of any help,

Boges

P.S.
I should add that I've been trying to call the number and extension they send via email after you submit your secondary application.

I would get more science professor LORs. That should be sufficient. NSU will amaze you if you go! Also, Ellen has always been my best way to get information via email. IM on AIM if you want her email address (knittingDO).

You could also just have them direct you to the bursar office and pay by credit card by phone if you're really worried about loosing your seat in the class. That's what I did, and the only reason I did it was because I couldn't access "Enter secured area" on their webstar system.

I submitted 3 science professor letters and 1 DO letter. It worked out fine for me. I graduated in 04, and that is the last time I took a liberal arts class. I have since done a bunch of post-bacc work but all in the sciences. My post-bacc school did have a committee but I didn't use it for various reasons. I don't remember if they asked to explain why you didn't use the committee or what not. If they asked I told them why, if they didn't I didn't say a peep to them about it.

I managed to get Linda on the phone and she gave me an NSU ID number that was used to pay online. I have had problems with mail getting to them though. After my interview I found out two of my LOR were missing.

I wouldn't worry about it though, it will work itself out. They don't want to be losing students

Redrumi- Thank you, that really clears things up—similar enough academic background.

aterry- Thank you also—I could ask for more letters but I was hoping not to. I tried to AIM you for Ellen's email.

Approximately 90% get their top 5 choices. The rotation sites with the largest amount of available spots are within the tri-county area; West Palm, Broward, Dade. You will get the education that you need no matter where you go. The Alabama and Georgia sites are optional and you are taken out of the lottery if you choose to go to either of those locations. Students are relatively happy where they end up.

As MossPoh indicated, it ranges from year to year. Hope that helps.

I think it means you shouldn't assume that the reason she's freaking out is because she is a woman. She has a viable reason to be nervous.

For everyone who was accepted this week or last week, do you know how long we have until we must pay the deposit?? I'm assuming it is around 30 days...??

Hi everyone...congrats to everyone who got in!! I just withdrew from NSU...was a tough decision, but I will be going to Western U next fall. Good luck and I hope one of you on the waitlist gets my spot!🙂
