NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

For the two apps listed... one is the secondary and the other is the AACOMAS app.

I'm not sure which one the "Decision:" field will pop up on.

Aaaahh that makes sense!

Also, my secondary was submitted on the 7th, and I have yet to receive a confirmation email with the pdf file. Should I be worried?

I wasnt sure about my status either so I called today and was told I was complete. I didnt know much about the signature page that some of you mailed in, so I asked and they said since I wrote down my name and the date at the end of application to sort of act like a signature, I dont need to mail in the page. If you're having doubts about your file, just give them a call, they were very helpful.

It took a few days to get mine. I think 3 or 4 so don't be worried yet

not sure if it's been asked, but did you guys mention lab research in your health-care related activities section?

No. I didn't include any biomedical research in this section (and I have a LOT of it). IMO, lab research does not count as health care-related activities. Clinical research with direct patient contact would count, I suppose.

Is this what everyone else's webstar looks like when they log in?

I submitted my secondary and paid on July 7th. I feel like mine is messed up, because I never received an email confirming my application had been submitted.

did you try snail mailing the signature page? Although some had said it wasn't necessary, I did and received a confirmation email

Yep, I mailed in the signature page and they sent me an email when it was received. They just never sent me anything when I turned in the secondary or any lors. From what others have said about their Webster pages, I don't believe mine is how it should be.

Mine looks to be the same, so either we're both alright or we both have problems lol

I haven't gotten anything back from them other than the email with the pdf

Lol I hope we're both alright then. Although the email with the pdf is what I didn't receive 🙁

That's how mine looks too. They didn't send me a confirmation that my LOR's were sent, but when I called they said they had them. I sent another random LOR Monday and got confirmation of them getting it yesterday, so I'm going to call back today and make sure I'm complete.

I did...the extra one I sent was from an MD. They had all my faculty and DO letters already. I didn't ask...just sent. It was easier to just send it than call. I always seem to sit on hold for 20 minutes there, ha. If they don't look at it or consider it, then no biggie.

Did you all have your DO or MD letter sent through interfolio or did you have the Doc just mail it to them directly themselves?

When listing the other schools applied to, obviously those of us who haven't applied before and are applying now for the most part have no had decisions yet made about our applications or are completed yet, so what do we write for status? Should I just say when I submitted and was verified and list the schools applied to?

This.

GL!:luck:

Thanks, Peachy! Good luck to you too!

edit: I'm a little worried though. This information shouldn't exclude anyone right? I don't want them to think "oh he applied to twice as many allo schools, he must not take us serious", when I picked out my schools based on academic association and location, especially when they're one of my top DO choices...

Did you guys answer this question?

List all the allopathic medical schools to which you are applying this year or to which you have applied in the past. Please indicate the year you applied, the college(s), whether you received an interview and what is your current status with that college. Please use the following format: date applied, insitution applied, interview and status of application.

No, I like leaving random questions blank on my application. I feel it gives me a unique angle when applying.

But on a serious note, yes I answered it. Truthfully and honestly.

by this time last year, ppl had already started hearing of interview invites! based on last years thread......im gettin nervous!

Don't be, I got an interview invite in January interviewed in February... Got waitlisted.... AND JUST GOT ACCEPTED TODAY!!! 😀 It's never too late! Best of luck though!

Does the admissions office have an email address at which we can contact them as opposed to waiting forever on the phone?

Does anyone's Webstar have a "Decision" box when they look under either of their apps? Last years thread said it was there, but I don't see one and one person last year said they didn't have one and their app was messed up. So just wanted to see if I was alone or not.

I have had the worst luck getting in touch with anyone over there. I've called 3 times with no answer/was on hold for 25 minutes, and sent an email through their website Friday with no response.

Ha that's the exact same reason I got worried about mine earlier! I read that post and started getting nervous. Hopefully someone will have an answer for us

Congrats!!

Nope, mine doesn't either. Probably too early.

I doubt it matters. Just be truthful. Many people apply broadly just to be safe. I applied to more MD schools than DO schools last year and didn't have any issues. They brought it up (briefly) during my interview though I think. They looked at my secondary responses and asked just a basic "why MD and DO schools?" or something. Just said I applied broadly and wanted to maximize my chances of becoming a physician or something. I think they also asked what I would pick (between an MD and a DO school) if accepted to both.

Good luck.

P.S. Congrats Alexandra...see ya in a couple of weeks!

I have a question:

After you submit the online application, they email you back a confirmation letter and also send you a PDF of your application. But when you try to open the PDF, it asks for a password.

What is the password? My password for the application on the NSU Web portal site? (I tried that though, and it didn't work)

It's your username.

When describing your health related activities, how much detail did you go into. It seems everything I write is already available through the AACOMAS application. I'm confused!! 😕.

Does anybody know if you need to have your physician letter in to be reviewed, assuming everything else is in?

If they follow suit of last year first interview invites should start going out next week. It was 7/22 when the first interviews went out last year. Hopefully we'll all be hearing something soon!

I hope so. I just called them to verify that I was complete, and I was. :xf:

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum so I hope you don't mind answering what's probably a silly question. Regarding this:

"List all the osteopathic medical schools to which you are applying this year or to which you have applied in the past. Please indicate the year you applied, the college(s), whether you received an interview and what is your current status with that college. Please use the following format: date applied, institution applied, interview, and status of application"

Are you supposed to say the date you actually submitted the application, or the date the application was released to the schools? Also what do you put down for status of application? Just submitted (I haven't received any interviews yet because I applied not too long ago)

Thanks for the help in advance guys 🙂

I wouldn't worry too much about formatting the dates. I only listed the month and year, so for my apps I used this format:

07/2010; School name; Application Pending

From what I've heard this isn't the most important part of your app and is rarely brought up at interview, so the above is most likely sufficient.

Good Luck!

anyone know an admissions email address? it would be greatly appreciated.

So does anyone know when the status changes from "not entered"? I submitted the secondary two weeks ago and got the confirmation .pdf, etc.

[email protected]

Well, just letting you know that I emailed them two weeks ago and they never emailed me back 🙁

Its VERY easy to call them, just be prepared to wait a few minutes on hold. I've gotten ahold of them a few times to double check verification status and see if they have begun to review files, so far every time has been "We don't have an exact date as to when it will begin at this time" I think they may be getting sick of me calling once a week.

Just wanted to pop in and say goodluck to everyone 🙂
I'm an M3 at Nova (actually, I'm up in Orlando right now). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
