NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, I know it is weird. In CIB they didn't mention anything about that. I asked the lady "are you sure?" and she said "yeah, group interview means a few people interview at the same time". No sure how that answered my question 😕

I don't think I'm a fan of group interviews, as in more than one interviewee. I don't mind 2-3 faculty and just me individually. I know Northwestern interviews multiple candidates at once though, but I've never interviewed there, lol. I hope this confusion will be cleared up soon by those who will have already gone first 🙂

So I just called the admissions office and FINALLY got through to a real person (after being on hold for an eternity)! I asked if they had received all my stuff, since my webstar doesn't say anything for me and they were like "Umm yea we have your stuff, you were already invited for an interview". WHAT??! 😱 BEST SURPRISE EVER!!! but weird that I didn't get a single confirmation email from them...oh well!

NOV. 9th WOOOO!!! Anyone else??? 😀😀😀😀😀

So does anybody know what percentage of students that are interviewed are generally accepted?

soooo... i found this new thing called google and found some numbers (accuracy unknown) from past years

2005: 516 interviewed, 445 accepted
2007: 481 interviewed, 366 were accepted, 228 enrolled

I'm going on Oct 28. Staying with a friend and hoping to explore the area! Good luck everyone!

The CIB says the interview is an "open file one-on-one interview with two or three faculty members" 😕

It looks to be a pretty high amount. I was searching through old threads, and mdapplicants, and I've seen it range from 60% to 85%. mdapps has it at 61%.

I tried calling to make sure my psych letter counts as a "liberal arts" and they said everything has been met but I'm still decision pending. Oh well

any one here with MCAT below 24 getting an interview for NOVA?

1 wannabe med student vs 2-3 faculty in one room w/ cookies + lemonade 10-20 mins, bam done. This is how it was when I interviewed and it hasn't changed (as far as I know)

This is for people who aren't staying at whatever that hotel is with the shuttle deal. So if you are renting a car, hitching a ride, taking a cab, etc... The cheapest thing you can do for a hotel room is name your own price on priceline. Select sunrise/plantation area (it is a 15-20 min drive tops), select 3 star hotel (2.5 if you aren't getting takers on your price), my friends and family who are visiting usually get a room at $35-$45/night doing this. Maybee you can get a cheaper place via other means, but this way you get a damn NICE hotel (at least they have been for my friends/family).

I hope the lady was wrong and this is how they will interview. I don't like the idea of group interview at all.

Just called to schedule my interview and the earliest spot they had was for December 2. 😱 Oh well at least it wont be as hot. 😀

any ideas what is MCAT cut off for interviwe invite.

They must have sent out a TON of invites all at once, I called yesterday and got Oct 28th. Crazy!

I'm willing to bet that it's far more subjective than that.

You are right but most of the schools have a sure cut off for MCAT score.
if one has a 15 MCAT score, I bet most of the schools will not send an invite (It may not be a good exmple though)

congrats to everyone invited for an interview...and for the others, just hang in there, im sure you will get your chance.

last year it seemed that those selected for early interviews had an mcat of 27 or higher. then as the interview season went on, people who had mcat scores of less than 27 were being invited for interviews.

last year the interviews were 1 student with 2-3 faculty members (all in the same room at the same time). each faculty member would take turns asking you 3-4 questions. the total interview lasted anywhere between 10-20 minutes, depending on whom was interviewing you.

hope this helps answer some of your questions.

GOOD LUCK!

July 8 submitted my secondary... July 24 they acknowledged receipt of my LORs... August 26 they e-mailed me informing me I should check my status: decision pending.

September 2 they e-mail and say...... all documents are in and they are forwarding my file to the admissions committee.

Seemed a little strange.

Oh, and my login inabilities continue, except this time I locked myself out. Sweet.

Anyone else get an interview invite without ever submitting a letter of recommendation??

I have an interview set up for late Sept with them...kinda strange

submitted by secondary Aug 6th...interfolio hasn't even received my LORs...

stats for the curious: sGPA 3.65, cGPA 3.45, MCAT 31P

I haven't gotten an e-mail about checking my status or about all documents being received. I have gotten 3 e-mails from them: A copy of my application, telling me my LORs are in, telling me my signature page is in.

Yet I have a status of decision pending.

Yes, I received an interview without my letters being in also.

It seems like they are reviewing and inviting people in order of decreasing mcats. I just got the invite Tue with an mcat of 27, even though I was complete before several others with invites earlier.

I could be way off though. It just seems that way. But is was kind of annoying when so many people who didn't even have their letters in were getting invites before me.

Edit: Didn't mean to sound snarky. Congrats to everyone with invites. I don't resent anyone - I just questioned the review process.

Hoping they make it to the 26's, ha. I really like NSU. I'm regretting not retaking my MCAT

I received my invite before getting my LORs in too. I'm trying to get them in before my Oct 7th interview, but my undergrad lost my LOR file and I had to have all my writers resubmit them before they can be forwarded to virtual eval 😡. My MCAT score was 31.

Man, the wheel just keeps on turning

wth?? 😱

Wow, that's horrible. I'm sorry man

Yea, definitely a pain in my  ....luckily I was able to get in contact with all of them and they were willing to submit updated letters, just waiting on my neurosci. prof to submit, and I'm golden 👍

I have a feeling that the cutoff had to do more with just a 27 MCAT, but I have a score higher than a 27 but also retook the MCAT from a score that was lower than 27, so maybe they also considered that in the whole cutoff.

Same boat as you, I got an invite from LECOM- Bradenton & decided to check WebStar for the hell of it & it said I was invited even w/o LORs. I'm scheduled for Oct. 26th, which is soon enough - seeing how people are getting dates in Dec now 😱. Nevertheless, good luck to everyone!

maybe you didn't notice, but this was on the webstar site... Best of luck:

Due to a system upgrade, WebSTAR will be
unavailable from 5:00 PM (ET) Saturday, September 4th, through 8:30 AM (ET) Tuesday, September 7th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Does anyone know when interviews start? I'm trying to figure out if, mentally, I can consider Oct 26 kinda early lol 🙂

I have one on the first day and it's on Thursday, but don't worry about your date, just try to worry about interviewing well. That is much more important than when you interview. Goodluck :luck:

Thanks a lot, I thought it was this coming Thurs. Good luck!! I wish I noticed I was invited earlier bc I would have had an earlier date. Its all good though!👍

Thanks for the info about interview process but the logic of 27 MCAT and higher does not seem to apply this year. I guess tey are inviting first come first serve basis depending on your secondary completion.
